Machining tool conditions directly affect to quality of product and productivity of manufacturing. Many researches performed for tool condition monitoring in machining process to improve quality and productivity. Conventional methods use characteristics of signal for cutting force, motor current consumption, vibration of machine tools and machining sound. Recently, diameter of machining tool is become smaller for minimizing of mechanical parts. Tool condition monitoring using conventional methods are relatively difficult because micro machining using small diameter tool has low machining load and high cutting speed. These days, the direct monitoring for tool conditions using vision system is performed actively. But, vision system is affected by external conditions such as back ground of image and illumination. In this study, minimizing technology of external conditions using distribution analysis of image data are developed in micro machining using small diameter drill and tap. The image data is gathered from vision system. Several sets of experiment results are performed to verify the characteristics of the proposed machining technology.

Recently, handy pulse measurement method was introduced by using smart phone camera. However, measured values are not consistent with the variations of external light conditions, because the external light interfere with dynamic range of captured pulse image. Thus, adaptive dynamic range reconstruction algorithm is proposed to conduct pulse measurement robust to light condition. The minimum and maximum values for dynamic ranges of green and blue channels are adjusted to appropriate values for pulse measurement. In addition, sigmoid function based curve is applied to adjusted dynamic range. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm conducts suitably dynamic range reconstruction of pulse image for the interference of external light sources.

In this paper, we researched the heat transfer analysis of 1.2[kW] BLDC motor on the condition of the external flow. The BLDC motor is fallen under influence of some heat generated by rotationg motor speed and it changes the life and confidence of motor. The heat makes to reduce the life of insulation and the magnetization. So motor can't make own performance. Therefore we calculated the losses about number of revolutions of motor. And then, we analyzed the heat transfer of BLDC motor by using the results when a fan attached to motor makes the external flow or not. The results showed that the temperature of motor increased constant values irrespective of external air temperature. The temperature of motor decreased very lower values than prior researches when the fan makes the external flow. In this method we can analyze the performance, losses and heat transfer of motor applied in the many industries.

Unstable pelvic ring injuries are potentially life-threatening and associated with high mortality and complication rates in polytrauma patients. The most common cause of death in patients with pelvic ring injuries is massive bleeding. With resuscitation, external fixation can be performed as a temporary stabilization procedure for hemostasis in unstable pelvic fractures. Internal fixation following temporary external fixation of the pelvic ring yields superior and more reliable stabilization. However, a time-consuming extended approach to open reduction and internal fixation of the pelvic ring is frequently precluded by an unacceptable physiologic condition and/or concomitant injuries in patients with multiple injuries. Conservative treatment may lead to pelvic ring deformity, which is associated with various functional disabilities such as limb length discrepancy, gait disturbance, and sitting intolerance. Therefore, if the patient is not expected to be suitable for additional surgery due to a poor expected physiologic condition, definitive external fixation in combination with various percutaneous screw fixations to restore the pelvic ring should be considered in the acute phase. Herein, we report a case of unstable pelvic ring injury successfully treated with definitive external fixation and percutaneous screw fixation in the acute phase in a severely injured polytrauma patient.
The purpose of the present research was to study effects of experimental conditions and developmental tendency in the use of external cues in memory-for-object location in toddlers. This study consisted of two experiments. In study 1, the subjects were 12 toddlers, 18 to 23 months old ; in study 2, 30 toddlers, 24 to 41 months old. The findings showed that memory-for-object location in toddlers was different in accordance with experimental conditions; that is, memory-for-object location in the natural condition was significantly better than in the artificial condition. Effects of external cues were found ; that is, memory-for-object location was best in the condition of spatial cues, and next best in the condition of picture cues, and least good in the no cue condition.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to evaluate the activity of trunk muscles according to width of the foot and posture of the arm during sit to stand (STS). METHODS: Thirty subjects were recruited and examined for variation in muscle activity of the erector spine, gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and external oblique during different STS conditions; namely, the cross arm basic sit to stand (CBSTS), overhead basic sit to stand (OBSTS), cross arm wide sit to stand (CWSTS), and overhead wide sit to stand (OWSTS). Repeated measures ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) was used for analysis. RESULTS: Erector spinae muscle activity showed a significant increase in the OBSTS condition (p<.05) and external oblique muscle activity showed a significant increase in the OWSTS condition ((p<.05). There was no significant difference in the activity of the gluteus maximus and gluteus medius under any conditions (p>.05). CONCLUSION: During evaluation of the performance of the STS, the CWSTS condition will be useful to decrease the muscle activity of the erector spinae and the OWSTS condition will be useful to increase the muscle activity of the external oblique. The results of this study can be used as an index to find a suitable exercise method for subjects who have back pain or to strengthen the abdomen.

Purpose: With the increase in the energy consumption in the building sector, many studies have recently been conducted to address this issue. Due to its efficiency, diverse studies on a light-shelf, which is a natural lighting system, are in progress. However, there has been no research on the external illumination that determines the performance of a light-shelf. Therefore, the present study aimed to prepare the external illumination standard for securing the lighting performance of a light-shelf through the light-shelf performance evaluation based on a 1:1 scale testbed, and to suggest a height-adjustable light-shelf based on an open and closed concept for the case in which the lighting performance of the light-shelf significantly deteriorates, by collecting the external illumination. Method: In this study, a 1:1 scale testbed was established for performance evaluation, and the external illumination standard for securing the performance of the light-shelf was prepared by comparing the lighting performance of the light-shelf depending on the open and closed condition of the light-shelf and the external illumination. Result: 1) In this study, a light-shelf that can be opened or closed depending on the external illumination was suggested. As a result, the prospect right can be secured by creating the condition where there is no light-shelf installation by moving the light-shelf to the top of the window when the lighting performance is not secured. 2) In the summer solstice, the external illuminations appropriate for lighting energy reduction were more than 75,000 lx and 60,000 lx for the light-shelf width of 0.3 m and 0.6 m, respectively. 3) In the intermediate period, the external illumination appropriate for lighting energy reduction was 60,000 lx. In the winter solstice, making the condition where there is no light-shelf installation by closing the light-shelf would be appropriate. 4) Based on the aforementioned results, the external illumination standard for the opening and closing of the height-adjustable light-shelf based on an open and closed concept suggested in this study was 60,000 lx, and the light-shelf with a width of 0.6 m would be advantageous for lighting energy reduction.
A novel sufficient condition of discretized equivalent control based sliding mode controller (SMC) for a second-order system with external disturbance to be globally uniformly ultimately bounded (GUUB) is proposed. The proposed stability condition guarantees that the system state is always GUUB in the presence of disturbance. The ultimate bounds of the system state variables are also derived.

The safety of expressway bridges was estimated by checking the external condition rank based on the nondestructive inspection and material test and by measuring load carrying capacity based on the result of load test. Although the load carrying capacity of the bridges was clearly low compared to the design standard, it was examined that many of the bridges have good external condition rank relatively. Also, it can be assured that load carrying capacity shows a considerable difference according to various condition even though the bridges have similar construction year and a structural type. Therefore, this study showed various problems of the current safety measurement of expressway bridges by considering the status of the expressway bridges, external condition rank, and method of safety diagnosis and repair, rehabilitation for maintenance. Based on the existing data of over 400 expressway bridges, the load carrying capacity was analyzed quantitatively considering bridge type, serviced life, design live load, external condition rank and traffic count as variables. The result of this study will be expected to provide the basic information for a reasonable safety assessment of expressway bridge.
