The prevention of noise induced hearing loss is very important, because there is no treatment for it. There are some kinds of devices for hearing protection, and those are effective in preventing a noise induced hearing loss. However, people often resist the use of hearing protection devices because it is difficult to have a conversation. Therefore, a hearing protection device is must effective not only in hearing protection but also in preserving communication ability. In this paper, we proposed a small acoustic filter for ITE type noise protector to solving the problem about the difficulties of conversation. That is applied a principle of acoustic filters that have been used for a muffler of automobiles, guns, and etc. To find out the sound transmission characteristic at the eardrum, we regarded an acoustic filter and external ear canal as a coupled system. So, we simulated the coupled system with OrCad, and experimented with a designed acoustic filter and a 2 cc coupler which has the same transmission characteristic as the external ear canal has. We confirmed that it is possible to adjustment acoustic transmission characteristics through simulation of electrical model for acoustic filter and external ear and experiments using designed small acoustic filters.

Even though MCG has many advantages over ECG, MCG signa)s are easily corrupted by external magnetic noises Since multi-channel MCG signals are recorded simultaneously at many spatial positions, it is effective to apply spatial fitters as well as the conventional temporal filters to remove external magnetic noises. The spatial filters can be designed by utilizing the fact that the noise signals caused by external noise sources are more spatially correlated than the original MCG signals. In this paper, we introduce a spatial filtering method for the noise reduction in MCG based on the principal component analysis. Healthy volunteer study results obtained with a 61-channel MCG system are presented.

A gas turbine is the main equipment used in a combined heat and power plant. It generates a high sound pressure noise level. To reduce the noise level, an enclosure is installed around the turbine. The sound insulation performance of the enclosure affects the amount of external noise reduction. In this study, a sound transmission loss analysis is performed using the boundary element method to predict sound insulation performance according to the numbers and shapes of the supporter. Radiated noise analysis is also performed for the main external points of the enclosure using ray-acoustics. The results of these analyses are presented and a design plan is proposed that reduces the sound pressure noise level of the enclosure.

In this paper, fiber optic sound and vibration monitoring sensor which is latticed shape structure based on Sagnac interferometer is fabricated and tested in laboratory conditions. To detect external vibrations surface mounted fibers on the latticed steel wire fence with a dimension of 170cm by 180cm is used. To detect external sound frequency the tightened fiber optic itself wire netting fence with a dimension of 50cm by 50cm is used. Experiments for the detection of the excited vibration and sound signals were performed. A small vibrator induced external vibration signal and it is applied to the latticed structure in the range of 100Hz to several kHz. External sound signal applied to the fiber optic sensor net using non-directional sound speaker. The detected optical signals were compared and analyzed to the detected both accelerometer and microphone signals in the time and frequency domain. Based on the experimental results, distributed fiber optic sensor using Sagnac interferometer detected effectively external vibration and sound signal and had a good performance. This system can be expanded to the monitoring of a significant system and to the structural health monitoring system.
It is widely known that the ultra high frequency (UHF) method that detects the electromagnetic wave of the PD pulses in the gas insulated space is one of the most competitive methods for its high sensitivity. From the above point of view, this paper describes the noise suppression methods and the PD measurement results of the in-service substation by the developed UHF PD measurement system which consists of the external UHF coupler, the UWB LNA and the digital storage oscilloscope. As results, it was found that the effect of the noise suppression methods were verified and that the developed external UHF coupler showed a better detection sensitivity than a conventional external coupler.
Internal and external acoustic fields of the engine inlet are calculated by using a finite element method. The far fields non reflecting boundary condition is enforced by using a wave envelope element, which is a kind of infinite element. The geometry is assumed an axisymetric duct. Sources of the fan are modeled by the Tyler and Sofrin's theory. Effects of uniformly moving medium are considered. A pulsating sphere and an oscillating piston problem are calculated to verify the external problems, and compared with exact solutions. When the wave envelope element is applied at the far boundary, the calculated finite element solutions show good agreements with the exact solutions. The engine inlet is solved with the combined internal and external grid. The cut-off phenomena on engine inlet duct are observed.

Precise prediction of resonance frequency has been the subject of numerous papers related to Helmholtz resonator design because of its high performance at the frequency. The resonance frequency is dependent upon not only the internal dimensions of resonator but also the external boundary conditions such as the existence of other resonators in Helmholtz resonator array panel. However, the latter effect, which changes the external end correction of resonator, has not been well studied. We propose a formula to calculate the radiation impedance (or external end correction) of Helmhoitz resonator array panel. Any distance between adjacent resonators and any angle of Incidence can be allowed in the method. Numerical examples show how and how much the distance affects the resonance frequency of the panel. It is also found that the maximum absorption of the panel varies with the resonator arrangement.

A flexible structure submerged in acoustic fluid is affected by its surrounding fluid. In this case, the coupling effects between structures and surrounding fluid have an effect on the submerged structure as external force and change impedance of acoustic domain. Therefore, the coupling effects by its surrounding fluid complicatedly change the characteristics of a submerged structure such as natural frequencies and damping coefficients. In this paper, using the analytic modal equation of a spherical shell surrounded by water and air, the complex changes of damping coefficients and natural frequencies of submerged structures are studied for various external acoustic fluid and structures.

In this study, the natural frequencies and mode shape of an external mounting pod were verified using the modal analysis and modal testing technique for a pod mounted on an aircraft. The procedure associated with the FEM building of an external mounted pod to predict the dynamic behavior of aircraft structures is described. The simplified FEM reflecting the results of the modal testing of a pod is built through the optimization, applied to the structural dynamic model of an Aircraft, used to verified the stability of vibration and flutter of an aircraft.
