Study on evaluating the interior noise about exterior noise of Apartment house (공동주택 외부소음에 대한 실내소음도 평가에 관한 고찰)

  • In a small territory like South Korea, the only alternative to accommodate people in a big city is building apartment house. Exterior traffic noise is not inevitable as the apartment house is set up on wayside or main road is newly established near the area. As the request for quiet environment increases for a better quality of life recently, the exterior noise is considered to be resolved. This study shows the present condition of exterior noise of apartments and reviews a need for the improvement by comparing and analyzing the regulations of main country. Finally, considered the evaluating the interior noise in the apartment house.

  • Design target values of transmission loss in a high-speed train wall are suggested by calculating the difference between interior and exterior noise levels of it. Exterior noise level distribution on the boundary of train wall is calculated by Sysnoise, with sound source input prepared by experiments. Two kinds of exterior sound sources are considered, the rolling noise of train wheels on the rail and the aerodynamic noise from the pantograph. Interior noise level is provided by high-speed design target. Transmission loss characteristics according to the frequency band are examined.

  • To reduce the exterior noise level of EMU, there are several ways have been evaluated. The noise sources for the exterior noise level are the traction motor, driving gear and wheel/rail rolling noise. In this article, the ways to mitigate the noise issue for EMU have been investigated and especially the way to protect the noise radiation from the bogie area and wheel/rail rolling noise. The way to evaluate the effect of the side skirt has been reviewed. To install the side skirt, the interface between the side skirt and the carbody and bogie should be examined and the acoustic design of the side skirt will be evaluated.

  • Exterior noise generated by the aircraft induces a serious noise pollution near the airport. For the prediction of an exterior noise radiation of aircraft an empirical formula is employed to model the acoustic sources. It is shown that the fan/compressor noise is the most dominant part of the acoustic sources in all cases.

  • It is necessary to predict the sound pressure level(SPL) in rooms before designing an apartment when exterior noises are produced. In order to predict SPL for an apartment that has some specific exterior noises, the following should be known: the characteristics of outdoor noise, sound insulation performance and sound level differences of each room. The purpose of this study is to find out the possibility of predicting sound pressure level of rooms in an apartment by analysing sound level differences among rooms. Sound sources used in this experiment are construction noise, aircraft noise, railroad noise, road traffic noise and white noise as a reference to compare with the previous four. These noises were recorded and reproduced by speaker. As a result, we found that within the sound reduction pattern, the sound difference level appeared uniform depending on the sound insulation characteristics of the windows installed when facing the noise source. When the windows having the same acoustic performance were installed, the SPL in each room resulted in nearly the same values.

  • Aerodynamically generated noise is significant when the train speed exceeds 250km/h. Experiments were performed in order to investigate the characteristics of aerodynamic noise sources generated from exterior of the HSR-350x, especially from the inter-coach spacing. Measurements of both the inside and outside of the cabin are carried out to investigate the characteristics of the noise. Effect of the size of the gap has been investigated through an wind tunnel test and it has been found that the low frequency noise is strongly dependent on the size of gap. Also performed is an array measurement to locate different noise sources from the high-speed train. Spectral characteristics of exterior noise sources have been examined through these experiments.

  • Road traffic noise level and railway noise level are important factors on apartment inhabitant's comforts. The measurement methods which noted by Ministry of Construction & Transportation(MOCT) and Ministry of Environment(ME) are used for measurement of exterior noise at apartment houses. But these methods are out of date because the height of apartment houses have increased dramatically and owing to the sampling methods of the measurement time interval, rating values are induced differently due to sampling methods. In this study, the sound level of each floor of apartment houses is measured and compared. And rating value due to sampling methods are compared. As a result, the KS outline of 'Field Measurement of Exterior Noise at Apartment Housess' is suggested.

  • As a part of acoustical design, it is often necessary to quantify aspects of an existing environment and to predict the result of adding an acoustical treatment. The most common sources of exterior noise, also termed as environmental noise,(or community noise) are traffic noise, air craft noise, industrial noise, etc. Transportation(air, road, and rail)noise is the dominant and most common source of noise exposure in residential neighborhoods, and the annoyance is its most consequential effect. The road traffic noise becomes aggravated due to the rapid increase of vehicles. It has a great effect on the dwelling environment. Therefore we investigate the characteristics and sources of the road traffic noise through grasping the status of the road traffic noise. In the present study, preceding studies investigated the noise level of urban areas in Seoul were reviewed and the noise level of urban areas in Seoul was measured at first, fifth, tenth, and nineteenth floor for two days of weekdays and two days of weekend.

  • There passed almost 15 years since our sound quality studies in Japan related to the emitted noise from the industrial products have been started. The sound under consideration are interior and exterior noise from cars, noise from the electric appliances such as electric shavers, electric cleaners and washing machines and the sound emitted from earth moving machines and etc. After a little while since sound quality studies have been started, the products with better sound are gradually on sale on the market.
