  • This study is the realization of natural gas as ways to advance the South and the continental railway linking basic research was conducted on railway transport. Summary data on the Status of North Korean railway which was to have reviewed the case of LNG railway transportation in Japan and China is becoming an LNG tank containers by rail transportation is done. In the case of Korea, the stability of railway transportation through the development of LNG tank containers and rail transportation pilot project was tested. It was set up and the basic directions of freight trains transport routes and methods for rail transport 7.5 million tons of natural gas per year. TKR ~ TSR between the LNG transportation business is an existing railway south. North. Russia gas pipeline (PNG) instead of a separate project to replace the business SRX (Silk Road Express) is a symbolic project for the early realization of the Eurasian railway linking policy. This study may give greater meaning to secure the iconic railway transport route for continental transport of containers and bulk cargo (coal, ores, etc.).

  • Purpose - Given the increasing interest in the Eurasian Initiative, government-wide studies for the construction of the Silk Road Express are currently being conducted. However, the Korean Government has no experience in operating international freight railroads and has not encountered problems in train service plans, international conventions, and customs clearance, which will arise when TKR is connected to TSR, TCR, and TMGR. Research design, data and methodology - Given these conditions, the cases of direct services in international freight railroads between China and Europe are investigated to identify the possible problems in the connection between TKR and continental railroads. This study also identifies the plans for activating Eurasian railroad logistics. Results - For the service of international freight trains, Korea needs to join international conventions, such as OJSD, as a regular member. Furthermore, any relevant international conference after the conclusion of such an agreement is needed for the agreement on train service schedules, fees, and procedures for passing border stations. Conclusions - Customs clearance and relevant documents must be standardized to address the differences in clearance systems between nations.

  • Typical railway systems are composed of the various sub-systems, such as tracks, structures, electricity supplying systems, signal systems and vehicles. The roles of the sub-systems are clarified in the railway regulations in terms of their whole life cycle, as like design, operation and disposal stages. The regulations express clearly the basic specifications and requirements that need to accomplish their own performance and also state the standards and procedures for the normal operations and emergency conditions. In this paper the current railway regulation systems are analyzed and average revision periods are presented as the results of the analysis on revision history of railway safety regulations. This paper also presents the requirements for national safety standards based on Railway Safety Act and the necessity of application of system computer aided system engineering (CASE) tool for the improvement of legislation tasks. By exemplifying the cases of high speed rail system and Japanese cases that had developed softwares for supporing regulation revision management, the methodologies was studied for reconstruction of railway safety regulation system. As the results, it was presented such as the considerations for actual implementation and systematic safety regulation revision.

  • The dynamic load effects are conveyed to the railway bridges through tracks which are generated by moving trains The dynamic load effects may vary due to the dynamic characteristics of the applied vehicle loads and the railway bridges containing the track system. However, the track effects have been neglected or simplified by spring elements in the most studies since it is quite complex to consider the track systems in the dynamic analysis models of railway bridges. In this study, track system on railway bridges is modeled using a three-dimensional discrete-support model that can simulate the load carrying behavior of tracks. In addition, this program is developed with the precise 20-car model and a continuous PSC(prestressed concrete) box girder bridge, which is the main bridge type of Korea Train express(KTX). Three-dimensional elements are used for both. The dynamic response of railway bridges is found to be affected depending on whether the track model is considered or not. The influencing rate depends on the traveling speed and different wheel-axle distance. The dynamic bridge response is decreased remarkably by the track systems around the resonant frequency. Therefore, the resonance effect can be reduced by modifying the track properties in the railway bridge.

  • Recently, Statistical Energy Analysis(SEA) is being increasingly applied to describe vibro-acoustic behavior of complex structures, such as air plane, automobile, ship, building. In this paper, we discuss the application of SEA to predict the interior noise for KTX train. To validate the SEA model of KTX train, calculated the interior noise for motorized car is compared to measured one. Finally, the reduction measures of interior noise for KTX are also discussed.

  • Ten years have passed since my last visit to Korea on the occasion of the International Symposium on High Speed Rail Systems organized by the Korean Transport Institute in October 1989. At that time, it was the objective to introduce the maglev and VHSR (very high speed rail) systems with their different areas of application and to discuss them with local partners against the background of the Seoul-Pusan HSR project. Congratulations on the success of the Centennial seminar. I am much pleased to be invited to the memorable seminar and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Korean members' hospitality. • Recently, South korea is driving forward the strategy concerning of the logistics center of northeast asia aggressively on the purpose of promoting Busan port & Gwangyang port to the hub-port of northeast asia, In that situation, it is significant that the meaning, construction connecting between south and north railway. Namely, That is the reason why Busan port is satisfied with the combined transport system of not only marine transportation but also railway transportation completely, However, the research and policy is only focused on the connection of north-south railway so far. The ability of Buans railway equipment as the actual role of origin-destination point of TKR(Trans Korean Railway), was not reviewed. Therefore, this research is shown the problem and reality of the railway transport concerning the centralization of Busan port, and the capacity of Busan port railway facility regarding the increase of future container quantity is reviewed and analyzed Moreover, the object, shown the importance of facility expansion such as Gungbu Trans Express between Daegu and Busan and the improvement scheme for railway transportation activation through the analysis of society cost and the logistics cost of the ability of railway facility, is set up.

  • In express operation plans for urban trains, it is effective for the reduction of the number of sidetracks to apply a high performance train that has improved acceleration/deceleration ability and a regular train to local and express trains, respectively. In this research, based on a plan to use a high performance train for a local train, an optimization methodology is suggested to reduce the number of sidetracks and the operation time of the local train simultaneously. The optimization solver applied in this research is a genetic algorithm; headway, location of sidetrack and waiting time at the sidetrack are considered as design variables in the optimization problem. Consequently, by applying this system to Seoul metro line no.7, the effect of the suggested methodology was verified by obtaining the proper optimum solution.
