ALTERA Embedded Gigabit Transceiver Measurement for PCI Express Protocol (ALTERA 임베디드 기가비트 트랜시버 테스트)

  • In this paper, a design and measurement method for FPGA embedded gigabit-transceiver is presented. Altera's Stratix GX device which is general purpose transceiver called GXB was used for implementing PCI Express transceiver. PCI Express is the generation high performance serial I/O bus used to interconnect peripheral devices. After GXB was set follow by PCI Express specifications, the design has been verified by timing simulation and implemented as hardware. We tested it as follow. First GXB internal digital and analog block test second GXB transmitter signal integrity test called Eye mask test, third GXB high-speed serial I/O buffer and on-chip termination test and the last GXB protocol test. This paper shows all the design and measurement procedure about FPGA embedded gigabit-transceiver.

Economic Feasibility of An Extra Stop Need at Kimpo Metro Station of AREX Express Trains (공항철도 직통열차 김포공항역 추가 정차에 따른 타당성 분석)

  • AREX (Incheon Airport Railway Express) operates trains between Seoul and Incheon Airport. One type of trains stops on every 10 stations, and another only on the two end-stations which called an Express train. The passengers traveled on express trains are very small since there are only two stops, Seoul and Incheon Airport Stations. The passengers of express trains will be more attracted if the express train stops on the intermediate stops (Gimpo station) since Line #9 and Line #5 are connected to from Gangnam. An on-board survey was conducted to predict the potential demand in case the express train stops at the Gimpo station. Further the costs required to improve platforms of the station were estimated to figure out the economic feasibility against the demand increases. It analyzed 938 increases for the case of intermediate stopping on the same travel time condition and 1,299 increases for the case of extra stop with decreased travel time. The study concluded the latter case appears desirable in the stance of long-term while both cases are economically feasible.

An Investigation of Rider Behavior to Transfer Seoul Metropolitan Transit Using Public Transport Card Data (교통카드 데이터를 이용한 수도권 광역급행철도 환승행태에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the Korean government promoted the construction of metropolitan express subway to connect major transportation hub in the metropolitan area within 30 minutes. Most stations of the metropolitan express subway are connected to existing subway stations, so the importance of transfer increased. Although many studies have been conducted on the effect of transfer penalty on route choice, there are few studies on the transfer behavior of the metropolitan express subway. Therefore, in this study, a transfer behavior analysis was conducted on the Shinbundang Line, a representative metropolitan express subway. To analyze the transfer behavior according to the degree of traffic congestion and the presence of fare payment, route choice models were made using transport card data divided according to week, time, and user characteristics. As a result of the analysis, users of the metropolitan express subway had greater disutility to the transfer waiting time compared to the transfer moving time. Furthermore, especially during the peak time, EIVM(Equivalent in-vehicle minutes) of the transfer waiting time was 3.51. In this study, EIVM for metropolitan express subway users were analyzed to be 2.6 minutes, which is significantly lower than the results of previous studies on subways. This suggests that there is a difference in the transfer penalty between subways and metropolitan express subway, and that it is necessary to apply the transfer penalty between subways and express subway differently when forecasting subway traffic demand.

A Combined Optimization/Simulation Approach to the Reconfiguration of Express Delivery Service Network for Strategic Alliance (전략적 제휴를 고려한 택배 서비스 네트워크 재설계를 위한 최적화/시뮬레이션 반복기법의 적용)

  • As the market of express delivery services expands rapidly, delivery service companies are exposed to severe competition. As a result of the surplus of delivery companies, they are struggling with remaining competitive at a reasonable price with appropriate level of customer satisfaction. To cope with competition pressures, a strategic alliance is suggested as an effective solution to the challenges faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in express delivery services. Therefore, this study suggests a combined optimization and simulation approach to the reconfiguration of an express delivery service network for strategic alliance with respect to strategy partnership of closing/keeping service centers among companies involved and adjustments of their cutoff times. An illustrative numerical example is presented to demonstrate the practicality and efficiency of the approach.

A Ride Quality Measurement of Rolling Stock used in Airport Railway (공항철도 전동차의 승차감 측정)

  • A ride quality measurement was carried out for commuter and express train used in airport railway. Lateral and vertical directional average ride quality level is higher than that of longitudinal direction. Because express train is faster than commuter train, the average ride quality level of express train is higher compared to that of commuter train. The average ride quality level of commuter train is between 'good comfortable($100{\sim}105dB$)' and 'very good comfortable(below 100dB)'. The average ride quality level of express train is between 'not comfortable($105{\sim}110dB$)' and 'good comfortable($100{\sim}105dB$)'. In spite of the scheduled speed is higher(more than 70km/h for commuter train, more than 80km/h for express train) than other lines, the ride quality of airport railway train is good. The reason is that there is little gradient in rail and the radius of curvature is larger compared to that of other lines.

Express Train Choice and Load Factor Analysis as Line Extension in Seoul Metro 9 (서울지하철 9호선 2단계 개통에 따른 급행열차 선택 및 혼잡도 변화분석)

  • This paper investigates how to change passengers' preferences for express trains according to line extension in Seoul Metro Line 9. Before-and-after line extension, we traced passengers' path choices using Smart Card data via the method suggested by Kim et al. (2015). We developed two multinomial logit models before-and-after line extension. Transferability test showed that there is no difference between the two models. However, the load factor of the express train increased by 6.7% and the gap between the local and express trains became significantly wider.

A Study on the Customer-based Pricing Approach for Railway Fare of Express Train

  • Purpose - Among the various pricing approaches used to set fares for express trains, this study explores a method of utilizing a customer-based pricing approach. The purpose of this study is to figure out how to apply the customer-based pricing approach to fares of new railway services using express trains. Research design, data, and methodology - This study was conducted through a literature review and case studies. In the literature review, we examined three approaches, focusing on the customer-based pricing approach and its application. In the case studies, we show how a customer-based pricing approach can be applied to determining the fares for railway services. Result - Some studies have used a customer-based pricing approach to set railway service rates, adapting the concepts of customer-based pricing such as demand, elasticity, value and willingness to pay. When setting fares of new railway services, it is recommended to use the customer-based approach in conjunction with other pricing approaches. Conclusion - This study demonstrates that a customer-based pricing approach is a promising tool in making decisions on railway fares. By applying a customer-based pricing approach to fares for new railway services using express trains, railway operators can utilize new service rates and increase the profitability of the railway business.

  • This paper shows the institutional limits of technological innovation at the railway package service, that is the limits of introducing the package express system. The railway package service, owned by government and operated by D company, has been suffered severe operating loss since early 1990's. The package express system supported by information network and co-working with inner city quick service might be an solution for the railway package service. But there are several obstacles such as labor union and the rigidities of the Korean National Railroad of government agency.
