Korean export of fashion products to the U.S. has fallen off sharply after 2001. Now, Korean fashion companies have to develop higher value-added business. In the U.S., Korean-American fashion companies are taking a primary role in up-stream of the fashion industry. To cut the edge over the U.S. fashion companies, one of the solutions could be to build the business relationship with Korean fashion companies which reflect the recent trend rapidly and have high quality production. On this study, we investigated the marketing strategies of Korean-American fashion companies to seek to start business with Korean fashion companies and make suggestions for Korean fashion companies who want to enter into the U.S. market effectively. To analyze current situation of Korean export to the U.S. and the U.S. fashion industry, we considered various kinds of statistic data, publications and studies. And we performed in-depth interviews with 9 Korean-American fashion companies in LA from $9^{th}$ to $21^{st}$ of July. The results are as follows. first, Korean fashion companies should aim for high-end market with the products of high quality and design. Second, there should be professional agents who manage Korean small-medium fashion companies and connect them with Korean-American fashion companies. Third, Korean fashion companies who want to enter into the retail market of the U.S. have to decide the target market clearly and plan strategic and differentiated merchandising. Fourth, Korean fashion companies can specialize in product developing service like proposing a product or a merchandising line as a package including designs, fabric swatches, trims, production information, etc.

Between 1980 and 1997 the Korean textile and clothing industry (KTCI) experienced the transformation of export-led accumulation regime rooted in domestically-derived price competitiveness into the combination between foreign mass production involving the geographical extension of productive forces and quality strategy based on upgrading technology and automation involved in the domestic market for high quality and price products. This restructuring of the KTCI is rooted at the crisis in the export-led growth regime implemented unity 1980 due to the rapid increase in wage levels by the ‘great labour movement’occurred in 1987. In particular, increased wage and collective bargaining realized through labour empowerment led to the crisis in the conjoin between mass production and mass export based on long working hours and low wage structure. The aim of this paper is to explore the transformation of development modes between 1980 and 1997 that can help us in understanding the fundamental reasons for the restructuring of the KTCI. To this end, the paper identifiles the changing accumulation regimes between 1980 and 1997 mediated by wage-labour relations, inter-firm relations and state-film relations, which are insitutional forms of the modes of regulation.

This study reviews the progress of maquiladora industry in Mexico and the development of the IMMEX program. The maquiladora program allows foreign-invested factories in Mexico to import raw materials and components duty free and to export the finished products to the U.S. It contributed to the increase in employment and population of border cities. Low wage level of Mexico induced not only standardized labor-intensive industries but also the high-tech automated industries requiring assembly process. In 2006, the Mexican government merged the maquiladora program and PITEX for Mexican export-oriented firms into a single new program, the IMMEX program, in order to promote exports more efficiently. This study presents the distributions of the IMMEX firms by industrial sector and by region. It is revealed that transport equipment sector leads the export industries in Mexico, and Tijuana and Juárez accommodate largest agglomerations of the IMMEX firms.
Recently, Korea is promoting cooperation with various countries, centering on ASEAN countries, with the aim of exporting Korean smart cities for the globalization of smart cities. The purpose of this study is to select excellent smart city technologies through analysis of smart city technologies owned by domestic companies and company status, and to prepare a plan for revitalization of companies with smart city technologies. Through prior research, the implications were derived through research on the existing smart city. Next, established a smart city policy analysis and smart city technology classification criteria through Korea and Overseas smart city policy and Korea smart city technology status DB. And the big data of smart city technology possessed by Korea companies and a plan for selecting a smart city export technology was prepared through analysis by region and company. As a result, to activate the technology possessed by Korea companies and to export overseas, it seems to need financial support and tax incentives that secure a pathway to export specialized smart technologies of SMEs, along with citizen participation and institutional supplementation. The smart city technology fields with the highest utilization in Korea were traffic, green energy, e-government, crime prevention, and construction, and the service types were platform, IoT, AI, big data, and GIS/GPS. These technologies are expected to contribute to building a platform for overseas smart city technology exports.
This paper analyzes industries of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk province of the Republic of Korea using the product space model that was developed mid 2000s on the basis of a network analysis framework. The study examines the structure of the product space for the 421 export items at HS 4-digit level after grouping them into 4 categories; classics, emerging champions, marginals and the disappearing products. The results suggest a significant structural transformation in the product space for the local industries and the scope and magnitude of such transformation was rather large. We were also able to confirm that the structural transformation of the product space differs from industry to industry and from group to group. While the approach used is not without shortcomings, our findings also indicate that information extracted from the world merchandise trade by way of product space indicators can be quite useful in identifying structural transformation of industries.

The exchange rate change has been increased since the time when the floating exchange rate system was introduced in Korea. As a result, the increase of the exchange rate changes raised the risk in international trades in Korea. Also after Bretton Woods System broke down, the increasing exchange rate fluctuation raised the risk in international trade. The purpose of this dissertation is to study whether this incomplete pass-through exists in Korean export industry and furthermore to measure the markup rate of the export price using real data since Global Financial Crisis. The estimation results of the export price determination model by Error Correction Model shows that the export price of Korea has been greatly influenced by the export prices and exchange rates against U.S. Dollar of rival countries, domestic producer price as well as the Korean Won-U.S. Dollar exchange rate and also business coincidence index of U.S. in demand. Particularly, the pass-through rate of Korean Won-U.S. Dollar exchange rate to export price is estimated to be incomplete, which contrasts with the propositions of traditional exchange rate determination approach, e. g. elasticity approach, monetary approach, etc.
This study analyzes Big Data to understand the economic influence of K-Beauty which is expected as a fast-growing industry. Because the content of K-beauty is mainly transmitted over the Internet, Big Data about K-Beauty in the database of online services can show interest and engagement in K-Beauty. The export volume of the beauty industry and the number of foreign tourist in Korea were used as dependent variables. The volume of Google search and the volume of YouTube page view were independent variables. According to the result of a multi-regression analysis, the volume of Google search of K-Beauty had a positive influence on both dependent variables, even after controlling for GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and distances between nations. When it comes to the volume of YouTube page view of K-Beauty, it had a positive relationship with the export volume of the beauty industry, whereas there was no significant relationship between the volume of YouTube page view and the number of foreign tourists. The result indicates that the content of K-Beauty has a significant impact on the beauty industry. Moreover, this empirical study shows that web search and YouTube search have a positive relationship with the economical aspect. These results can be used to discuss public relations strategy to promote K-Beauty industry.
