  • A injection mold usually requires 30 to 50 revisions, and as the number of revisions increases, the burden of increased costs, schedule delays, and decreased reliability increases, reducing the competitiveness of companies. In addition, these costs become a more serious problem when the customer is far away, which is an obstacle to the export of domestic mold companies with excellent technology. The objective of this study is to develop an augmented reality platform that will facilitate the sharing of realistic 3D virtual objects in real time and enable mold designers to collaborate using a range of tools in remote locations and virtual environments. The platform collaboration solution enables simultaneous participation and synchronization of design collaboration with four types of devices (PC, mobile, VR, and MR). The efficiency and precision of the high-speed injection molding analysis module were validated through rigorous testing, demonstrating a processing speed that ranges from 500 to 3,000 times faster than that of the conventional numerical analysis method, with a relative error of less than 15% and a service performance of more than 80 fps. The user-friendly and intuitive UI/UX was configured and the usability was verified through scenario verification.

  • Korea has continuously increased investment on R&D to improve global technology competitiveness through technology innovation. Korea's R&D expenditure as a percent of GDP is world's No. 1 as 4.15 and it accomplished 1 trillion won trade volume for 4 consecutive years. However, despite these efforts, technology balance of payment, which is an important factor that can measure nation's technology competitiveness is in a state of chronic deficit and the lowest level among OECD countries. In this paper, we studied methods to improve Korea's technology balance of payment We figured out concept and current state of technology trade and examined the importance of technology trade through making a comparison between commodity trade and technology trade. There have been studies regarding technology trade, but there was no study which tried to figure out cognition on technology trade from the point of view of companies which plays an important role in technology trade. For this, this study distinguished companies with experience in technology trade and which have not and conducted a survey to figure out cognition and current state of companies. The survey result showed noticeable difference on cognition of top decision makers between companies with experience in technology trade and which have not and there are serious shortage in department and staff which is exclusively responsible for technology trade. Also, despite their needs for education regarding technology trade, the ratio of employees who received education is below 10 % of the total respondents. This study suggested improvement methods such as reforming survey methods of technology trade statistics, enhancing social cognition, supporting to vitalize technology export, building infrastructure regarding technology trade, and opening education programs for cultivating experts based on preceding research and industry survey.

  • The manufacturing processes of high-precision parts for PGM (Precision Guided Missiles) have not been improved for decades; they still depend on machining or high-precision casting. These processes have an advantage when making small amounts of high-reliability parts in the usual case of a PGM system. In the case of a PGM system, however, which has been made for striking an extensive area, requires hundreds of bomblet units that require mass productivity. In addition, in the case of a part that is very difficult to machine, mass productivity and quality cannot be satisfied at the same time. In particular, cost reduction is an essential precondition to strengthening the export competitiveness of Korean defense articles. This study examined whether the MIM process is appropriate for manufacturing high-precision parts that require mass productivity. The optimized MIM process condition was determined after carrying out fundamental research. Comparisons of the quality of prototype parts with original parts and a functional test of a fuse that had been made with MIM parts highlighted the application possibility of the MIM process.

  • This paper aims to investigate the relations among the entrepreneurship, SWOT factors, and performance in Korean hidden champion firms. 112 potential Korean hidden champions were drawn at random from the hidden champion candidates of Export-Import Bank of Korea. For analyzing the relationship of them, the entrepreneurship factors categorized with organizational risk taking, innovativeness, and proactiveness from previous researches(Khandwalla, 1977; Miller, 1983; Miller & Friesen, 1978, 1982). Also, four SWOT factors classified into strength, weakness, opportunities, and threat by confirmatory factor analysis. As a result, we found some statistically significant effects between the SWOT factors and entrepreneurship factors, and they sequentially affects to performance. That is, as a presented with previous research, there is verified that entrepreneurship is caused by organizational risk taking, innovativeness, and proactiveness. Also, SWOT factors significantly affect to business performance. Some guidelines for practicing potential Korea hidden champions as a result of this would include; first of all, it is important to support the potential hidden champions consulting approach in global perspectives; secondly, effective governmental support programs for hidden champions should be developed for positive impacts of according to these results.

  • This study examines the effects of real exchange rate (RER) depreciation shocks on firm-level productivity and employment in Daegu-Gyeongbuk manufacturing industries during 2006-2012. In particular, the study focuses on a sharp and persistent RER depreciation of the Korean Won from 2007 to 2009, which is a situation akin to a natural experiment in Korea. We find that RER depreciation has positive effects on productivity for firms with high export exposure in foreign markets. However, these effects disappear when RER depreciation persists. In addition, we do not find evidence that RER depreciation affects employment of Daegu-Gyeongbuk firms significantly. Firms in Daegu-Gyeongbuk region should pursue core competency to obtain international competitiveness rather than depending on temporary better price condition driven by RER depreciation. Further, policy makers in a local government should provide firms with financial and investment support to encourage innovation and R&D.

  • Nowadays, the third-party logistics is getting special attention as one of the most useful ways to perform the logistics management effectively. In this current trend, however, there are many firms which carry out the logistics activities by themselves and strengthen the competitiveness. In respect of contingency theory, the firms' logistics management types should depend on their logistics environment and characteristics, and then the logistics performances vary with this suitability. In this context, this study analyzed empirically the difference of the logistics performances due to the fitness between their logistics characteristics and the management types. According to the finding, the study showed that the third-party logistics is more suitable when the importance and weight of logistics operation and the weight of their export are greater respectively, and the self-logistics is more suitable when the logistics cost is higher. Futhermore, the study indicated that the firms whose relationship between the characteristics and the management types is fit in their logistics are better than the others in the outcome of logistics cost reduction and the effectiveness of logistics operation.

  • This study explores the incentive system in Korean ports to become a global logistics hub in Asia or to be competitive among Korean ports as a regional hub. First, we identified the types of port incentives in Korea and in overseas ports. We selected potential incentives applicable to Korean ports and compared whether they were meaningful, efficient, and effective in the short and long term. We selected IPA (Importance-performance Analysis) as an analytical method and surveyed users and experts. The results show that it is necessary and effective to provide incentives for new shipping companies, both export and import shippers, while setting criteria for reasonable incentives. Factors needed for improvement included simplifying and calculating the incentive request process, incentives for terminal operators, and new incentives, in addition to existing incentives. Policy-making organizations will also need to collect feedback on institutional improvements and raise awareness among users. Key factors for improvement include providing incentives for existing shipping companies. In particular, in order to actively manage systematic and efficient policies, incentive criteria for existing shipping companies need to be reconsidered.

  • Since 2010, Korea's overseas construction orders have seen dramatic fluctuations. I propose causes and remedies for the industry as a whole. Orders have recorded an annual average of $63.8 billion dollars from 2011 to 2014, reaching its highest at $71.6 billion dollars(2010) which marked the peak of Korea's overseas construction. However, due to a decline in international oil prices, starting in the last half of 2014, Korea's overseas construction orders have followed suit recording $46.1 billion dollar in 2014, $28.2 billion dollars in 2016, and $29.0 billion dollars in 2017. Facing uncertainty in Korea's overseas construction market, caused by continued slow growth of the global economy, Korean EPC contractors are at a critical point in regards to their award-winning capabilities. Together with declining oil prices, the challenges have never been bigger. To mitigate the challenges, I would suggest policy direction as a way to grow and develop the overseas construction industry. Proper counterplans are needed to foster Korea's overseas construction industry. Forecasting total order amount for overseas construction projects is essencial. Analyzing contract award & tender structure and its changing trends in both overseas and world construction markets should also be included. Korea has great potential and global competitiveness. These measures will serve to enhance Korea's overall export strategy in uncertain overseas markets and global economy.
