Short-term Electric Load Prediction Considering Temperature Effect (단파효과를 고려한 단기전력 부하예측)

  • In this paper, 1-168 hours ahead load prediction algorithm is developed for power system economic weekly operation. Total load is composed of three components, which are base load, week load and weather-sensitive load. Base load and week load are predicted by moving average and exponential smoothing method, respectively. The days of moving average and smoothing constant are optimally determined. Weather-sensitive load is modeled by linear form. The paramiters of weather load model are estimated by exponentially weighted recursive least square method. The load prediction of special day is very tedious, difficult and remains many problems which should be improved. Test results are given for the day of different types using the actual load data of KEPCO.

  • A markov chain is used to derive the models for determining the size of persons to be promoted and for conducting the sensitivity analysis of promotion probabilities. To compute the former case a future wastage rate is forecasted by using the double exponential smoothing method. The model for sensitivity analysis is used to simulate the impact of change in graded-size targets and hiring policy on the promotion probabilities.

  • The major advantage of the short-term load forecasting technique using general exponential smoothing is high accuracy and operational simplicity, but it makes large forecasting error when the load changes repidly. The paper has presented new technique to improve those shortcomings, and according to forecasted the technique proved to be valid for two years. The structure of load model is time function which consists of daily-and temperature-deviation component. The average of standard percentage erro in daily forecasting for two years was 2.02%, and this forecasting technique has improved standard erro by 0.46%. As relative coefficient for daily and seasonal forecasting is 0.95 or more, this technique proved to be valid.

Forecasting with a combined model of ETS and ARIMA

  • This paper considers a combined model of exponential smoothing (ETS) and autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models that are commonly used to forecast time series data. The combined model is constructed through an innovational state space model based on the level variable instead of the differenced variable, and the identifiability of the model is investigated. We consider the maximum likelihood estimation for the model parameters and suggest the model selection steps. The forecasting performance of the model is evaluated by two real time series data. We consider the three competing models; ETS, ARIMA and the trigonometric Box-Cox autoregressive and moving average trend seasonal (TBATS) models, and compare and evaluate their root mean squared errors and mean absolute percentage errors for accuracy. The results show that the combined model outperforms the competing models.

  • This study was conducted to investigate that bus information was used as an information of travel speed. To determine the travel speed on the road, bus information and the information collected from the point detector and the interval detection installed were compared. If bus information has the function of traffic information detector, can provide the travel speed information to road users. To this end, the model of recognizing the traffic patterns is necessary. This study used simple moving-average method, simple exponential smoothing method, Double moving average method, Double exponential smoothing method, ARIMA(Autoregressive integrated moving average model) as the existing methods rather than new approach methods. This study suggested the possibility to replace bus information system into other information collection system.

  • The up-to-moment dataset is built by combining the past dataset and the recent dataset. The proposal is to compute association rules in real time. This study proposed the model, $EM_{past'}$ and algorithm that is sensitive to time. It can be utilized in real time by applying partitioned combination law after dividing the past dataset into(k-1). Also, we suggested $EM^{ES}_{past}$ applying the exponential smoothing method to $EM^p_{past'}$ When the association rules of $EM_{past'}\;EM^w_{past'\;and\;EM^{ES}_{past}$ were compared, The simulation results showed that $EM^{ES}_{past}$ is most accurate for testing dataset than $EM_{past}$ and $EM^w_{past}$ in huge dataset.

  • Forecasting the future values of an observed time series is an important problem in many areas, including economics, traffic engineering, production planning, sales forecasting, and stock control. The purpose of this paper is aimed to discover the more efficient forecasting model through the parameter estimation and residual analysis among the quantitative method such as Winters' exponential smoothing model, Box-Jenkins' model, and Kalman filtering model. The mean of the time series is assumed to be a linear combination of known functions. For a parameter estimation and residual analysis, Winters', Box-Jenkins' model use Statgrap and Timeslab software, and Kalman filtering utilizes Fortran language. Therefore, this paper can be used in real fields to obtain the most effective forecasting model.

  • An accurate prediction of electricity supply and demand is important for daily life, industrial activities, and national management. In this paper electricity sales is predicted by time series modelling. Real data analysis shows the transfer function model with cooling and heating days as an input time series and a pulse function as an intervention variable outperforms other time series models for the root mean square error and the mean absolute percentage error.

  • Railway passenger demand forecasts may be used directly, or as inputs to other optimization models use them to produce estimates of other activities. The optimization models require demand forecasts at the most detailed level. In this environment exponential smoothing forecasting methods such as Holt-Winters are appropriate because it is simple and inexpensive in terms of computation. There are several initialization methods for Holt-Winters Model. The purpose of this paper is to compare the initialization methods for Holt-Winters model.
