  • There has been a long debate on the applicability of the chi-square approximation to statistics based on small sample size. Extending comparison results among Pearson chi-square Χ$^2$, generalized likelihood .ratio G$^2$, and the power divergence Ι(2/3) statistics suggested by Rudas(1986), recently developed disparity statistics (BWHD(1/9), BWCS(1/3), NED(4/3)) we compared and analyzed in this paper. By Monte Carlo studies about the independence model of two dimension contingency tables, the conditional model and one variable independence model of three dimensional tables, simulated 90 and 95 percentage points and approximate 95% confidence intervals for the true percentage points are obtained. It is found that the Χ$^2$, Ι(2/3), BWHD(1/9) test statistics have very similar behavior and there seem to be applcable for small sample sizes than others.

  • Effects of direct multiple quantum excitations in vibrational energy transfer were investigated. Vibrational transition probabilities for 0${\rightarrow}$2, 0${\rightarrow}$3, and 0${\rightarrow}$4 excitations were explicitly formulated including both direct 0→n excitations and stepwise single quantum processes. For the formulation the perturbing force was derived from the exponential potential including terms up to fourth order in the vibrational amplitude. The head-on collinear collision model between a harmonic oscillator and an incident particle was employed, and the formulation was based on the semiclassical approximation. Numerical results were obtained for five different collision systems (Ar${\cdots}$O-N, He${\cdots}$H-H, He${\cdots}$H-Cl, 5${\cdots}$1-2, 2${\cdots}$12-12). Comparison between the present results and those obtained using the linearized interaction potential showed that the overall effect of including the direct multiple quantum transition is to decrease the probabilities at low collision energies and to increase them at high energies. The present results were found to be significantly different from those obtained using the linearized potential for collision systems He${\cdots}$H-H, He${\cdots}$H-Cl, and 5${\cdots}$1-2. For systems Ar${\cdots}$O-N and 2${\cdots}$12-12 the differences were negligible.

  • In this study, we analyze the mean waiting time on the nested open queueing network, where the population within each subnetwork is controlled by a semaphore queue. The queueing network can be transformed into a simpler queueing network in terms of customers waiting time. A major characteristic of this model is that the lower layer flow is halted by the state of higher layer. Since this type of queueing network does not have exact solutions for performance measure, the lower bound and upper bound on the mean waiting time are checked by comparing them with the mean waiting time in the transformed nested queueing network. Simulation estimates are obtained assuming Poisson arrivals and other phase-type arrival process, i.e., Erlang and hyper-exponential distributions. The bounds obtained can be applied to get more close approximation using the suitable approach.

  • This paper presents bit splitting methods to apply multilevel modulation to iterative codes such as turbo code, low density parity check code and turbo product code. Log-likelihood ratio method splits multilevel symbols to soft decision symbols using the received in-phase and quadrature component based on Gaussian approximation. However it is too complicate to calculate and to implement hardware due to exponential and logarithm calculation. Therefore this paper presents Euclidean, MAX, sector and center focusing method to reduce the high complexity of LLR method. Also, this paper proposes optimal soft symbol split method for three kind of iterative codes. Futhermore, 16-APSK modulator method with double ring structure for applying DVB-S2 system and 16-QAM modulator method with lattice structure for T-DMB system are also analyzed.
