  • In this paper, we study a first-order non-linear singularly perturbed Volterra integro-differential equation (SPVIDE). We discretize the problem by a uniform difference scheme on a Bakhvalov-Shishkin mesh. The scheme is constructed by the method of integral identities with exponential basis functions and integral terms are handled with interpolating quadrature rules with remainder terms. An effective quasi-linearization technique is employed for the algorithm. We establish the error estimates and demonstrate that the scheme on Bakhvalov-Shishkin mesh is O(N-1) uniformly convergent, where N is the mesh parameter. The numerical results on a couple of examples are also provided to confirm the theoretical analysis.

  • In this article, we presents multi-objective design optimization of laminated composite beam using Fuzzy programming method. At first, the two design objectives are minimizing the structural weight and maximizing the buckling load respectively. Fuzzy multi-optimization problem can be formulated based on results of single optimizations. Due to different relative importance of design objectives, membership functions are constructed by adding exponential parameters for different objective's weights. Finite element analysis of composite beam for buckling behavior are carried by Natural mode method proposed by J.Argyris and computational time of analysis can be reduced. With this scheme, a designer can conveniently obtain a compromise optimal solution of a multi-objective optimization problem only by providing some exponential parameters corresponding to the importance of the objective functions.

  • A reliability Acceptance Sampling Plan (RASP) is developed for testing the exponential mean lifetime under the periodic (i. e., equally-spaced) inspection and Type I censoring. Under the periodic inspection, the exact sampling distribution of maximum likelihood (ML) estimator of mean can not be derived. Hence sample size and acceptance criterion are determined by the algorithm proposed on the basis of Monte Carlo simulation such that the producer's and consumer's risks are satisfied for given censoring time and number of inspections. In addition, the developed RASP is compared in terms of sampling size, OC curve, and expected completion time. The effects for the RASP by the chosen inspection scheme are also discussed.

  • We consider a life testing experiment in which several two-component shared parallel systems are put on test, and the test is terminated at a predesigned experiment time. The bivariate data obtained from such a system-level life testing can be classified into three cases: 1) the case of failed two components with known failures times, 2) the case of censored two components, and 3) the case of one censored component and the other failed component of which the failure time might be known or unknown. In this thesis, the likelihood estimators for Freund's bivariate exponential life distribution under above censoring scheme are obtained. Results of comparative studies based on Monte Carlo simulation are presented.

  • In this paper, a new approach for a sampled-data representation of nonlinear system that has time-delayed multi-input is proposed. That is largely devoid of illconditioning and is suitable for any nonlinear problem. The new scheme is applied to nonlinear systems with two or three inputs; and then the delayed multi-input general equation is derived. The method is based on thematrix exponential theory. Itdoes not require excessive computational resources and lends itself to a short and robust piece of software that can be easily inserted into large simulation packages. A performance of the proposed method is evaluated using a nonlinear system with time-delay: maneuvering an automobile.

  • In this article, we propose exponentially fitted error correction methods(EECM) which originate from the error correction methods recently developed by the authors (see [10, 11] for examples) for solving nonlinear stiff initial value problems. We reduce the computational cost of the error correction method by making a local approximation of exponential type. This exponential local approximation yields an EECM that is exponentially fitted, A-stable and L-stable, independent of the approximation scheme for the error correction. In particular, the classical explicit Runge-Kutta method for the error correction not only saves the computational cost that the error correction method requires but also gives the same convergence order as the error correction method does. Numerical evidence is provided to support the theoretical results.

  • In start-up process control applications it may be necessary to limit the sample size to one measurement. A control chart for individual measurements is used whenever it is desirable to examine each individual value from the process immediately. A possible option would be to use an exponential weighted moving(EWM), using modifying statistics with individual measurement, chart for monitoring the process center, and using a moving range (MR) chart for monitoring process variability. In this paper it is shown that there is scheme in using the EWM procedure based on average run length. An expression for the ARL is given in terms of an integral equation, approximated using numerical quadrature. In this case, where it is reasonable to assume normality and negligible autocorrelation in the observations, provide graphs that simplify the design of EWM-MR chart and taking method of exponential smoothing constant(λ) and constant(K) are suggested. The charts suggested above evaluate using the conditional probability.

  • An intelligent control method is proposed for control of rigid robot manipulators which achieves exponential tracking of repetitive robot trajectory under uncertain operating conditions such as parameter uncertainty and unknown deterministic disturbance. In the learning controller, exponentially stable learning algorithms are combined with stabilizing computed error feedforward and feedback inputs. It is shown that all the error signals in the learning system are bounded and the repetitive robot motion converges to the desired one exponentially fast with guaranteed convergence rate. An engineering workstation based control system is built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • The bending analysis of sandwich functionally graded (FG) beams under temperature circumstances is performed in this article utilizing Navier's solution-based parabolic shear deformation theory. For the first time, a comparative study has been carried out between the exponential and sigmoidal sandwich FGM beams under thermal conditions. During this investigation, temperature-dependent material characteristics are postulated. Both symmetric and unsymmetric sandwich examples have been studied. The effect of gradation law, gradation coefficient, and thickness scheme on beam behavior has been thoroughly investigated. Three possible temperature combinations at the top and bottom surfaces of the beam are also investigated. Beams with a higher proportion of ceramic to metal are shown to be more resistant to thermal stresses than beams with a higher proportion of metal.
