  • As an exploratory inquiry prior to developing a measure to assess Korean families with adolescents' family resilience, this study examined the construct validity of the family resilience measures that were developed in the U. S. Iowa Youth and Families Project(Conger & Elder, 1994): emotional support between spouses, problem solving style between spouses, and parenting behavior. The participants were 277 pairs of middle aged, middle class husbands and wives (554 individuals) who were the parents of first graders in middle schools in the metropolitan areas around Seoul. The results of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis supported the construct validity, indicating that emotional support, problem solving style, and parenting behavior may be used as measures to assess Korean family resilience. However, further tests of convergent validity using various assessment methods and analytical procedures are needed to ensure the construct validity of family resilience measures.

  • This study analyzes the type of preferred shopping items based on tourism shopping value pursued by tourists through shopping at travel destinations as well as verifies their impact on satisfaction. A survey on 310 adult men and women aged 20 to 69 collected data samples representing tourism shoppers in Korea. Based on the collected data, a factor analysis and a structural model equation analysis were performed using SPSS 25.0 and AMOS. Tourism shopping value was divided into functional value, emotional value, exploratory value, and shared value. In addition, shopping items were categorized as physical materials and experience materials to identify the difference in preferred item types according to the value that tourists perceive. It also confirmed the adjustment effect of tourism motivation that affects tourism shopping behavior. According to the analysis results, the more tourists perceive functional and emotional values when shopping, the more physical material they prefer, and the more they perceive exploratory values, the higher the preference for experience goods. However, the shared value affected both physical materials and experience materials. Based on escape-seeking motivation, the adjustment effect of tourism motivation (a major variable to understand the behavior of tourists) on tourism shopping behavior was confirmed. Based on the academic and practical implications of this study, we hope to broaden our understanding of tourism shopping and revitalize research on tourism shopping.

  • Data from a series of four studies on leadership behavior are analyzed and compared to identify effective patterns of leadership behavior for platoon leaders and battalion commanders in ROK Army. Multiple-method research strategy is utilized in four studies to overcome some of the limitations of previous researches. Two of four studies employ a questionnaire method, and the rest use content analysis of critical incidents. Important behaviors for leadership effectiveness in both platoon leaders and battalion commanders include Supporting and Motivating Task Commitment. However, Developing and Monitoring Operations are only important in platoon level, and Planning & Organizing and Recognizing & Rewarding only in battalion level. Most discrepancies in results among studies can be explained in terms of either method effects or situational differences in role requirements for leaders.

The survey was conducted to parents of elementary school in Chung-buk area by the help of homeroom teachers of each school. Out of 500 questionnaires administered, a total of 305 completed questionnaires were returned, yielding a response rate of 61%. Regarding buying behavior, 89.6% of respondents have ever bought EAPs, among them, 52.9% usually bought in a mart. The reason to buy EAPs was mostly safety(57.6%), nutrition & health(30.4%), and quality(7.0%). The 11 items representing the attitude and knowledge were analyzed, resulting in three distinct dimensions-'attitude', 'knowledge', and 'concern'. The knowledge level of EAPs was slightly higher than medium. Concerning the influence of EAPs perception on EAPs consumption behavior, the more having high knowledge and attitude level on EAPs, the more lead to the EAPs consumption behavior. This implicit the importance of education to enhance the knowledge level and positive attitude towards EAPs.
