This study examined the impact of failure tolerance on exploration and exploitation activities and the impact of these activities on management performance in the representatives of re-start-up companies. Recently, policy and social support for re-starting businesses has been increasing. This study seeks to verify whether the psychological factors of the re-founder are related to management performance. Therefore, a research model that combines failure tolerance, which is a psychological and pedagogical variable, and management performance, which is a management variable, was presented and empirical analysis was made. The research targets were conducted on re-founders who received funding from Korea SMEs & Startups Agency. The analysis of the psychological characteristics of the re-start-up, failure tolerance and the effect on the exploration and exploitation activity, all showed positive effects, and the analysis of the effect of the exploration and exploitation activity on the management performance, showed that the exploration activity did not affect, and the exploitation activity had a positive effect. This study is intended to provide theoretical and practical implications.

In order to find the factors that influence behaviors for innovative work performance, this study tried to examine the relationship between organizational justice perceived by SME employees and IT support for differentiation on innovative behavior through knowledge exploitation and exploration. A survey was conducted on employees of SME, and the research hypothesis was verified using SPSS 22.0 and PLS 3.0 by analyzing the final 239 copies. As a result of the study, organizational justice and IT support showed a positive effect on knowledge exploitation and exploration, and knowledge exploitation and exploration had a positive effect on innovation behavior. Through this study, the theoretical foundation for organizational justice to influence knowledge exploitation and main search was established and the theoretical and practical implications for enhancing the competitiveness of the enterprise were presented through a comprehensive analysis of the two variables, organizational justice and IT support, which affect the innovation behavior of SMEs. Future research will require to study the performance part due to innovative behavior using various variables.

Genetic Algorithms face an inherent conflict between exploitation and exploration. Exploitation refers to taking advantage of information already obtained in the search. Exploration show that a pattern in bits coupled with another pattern elsewhere in the string is more effective. In this paper shows that the selection method has a major impact on the balance between exploitation and exploration. A more heavy-handed approach seeks to exploit the available information. If decisions must be made quickly, especially those in real-time trading environments, then quicker convergence through exploitation may be more desirable. Also this paper we present some theoretical and empirical the selection method in genetic algorithms for a GA-hard problem.

Alliance formation has been recognized as an important strategy for firms who seek to survive through acquisition of sustainable competitive advantages. Specifically in high-tech industries, firms may consider formation of strategic alliances in order to access valuable external knowledge. These firms tend to be situated in a dilemma that they should choose between exploration and exploitation, which are two types of strategic choices suggested by March (1991). Working out the dilemma has been extensively discussed in the area of strategy or organization learning. Recently, however, an increasing number of studies have stressed on a balance between exploration and exploitation. Regarded as 'ambidextrous organizations' (Lavie and Rosenkopf, 2006), these firms that simultaneously pursue exploration and exploitation have emerged in high-tech industries, and many studies have provided evidence of positive association between organizational ambidexterity and firm performance. In the strategic alliance research, accordingly, scholars began to pay attention to the balanced choice between exploration-and exploitation-oriented alliances. Given these backgrounds, this study examines the relationship between alliance ambidexterity and firm performance. While previous research approached alliance ambidexterity mainly from the number of alliances, our study suggests ambidexterity in terms of alliance portfolio and alliance partner. Our dataset consists of biotechnology or pharmaceutical firms in the United States, which spans time period between 1990 and 2005. We conduct panel data analysis. The results show the strong link between alliance ambidexterity and firm performance, highlighting the balance between exploration and exploitation when firms make strategic decisions.

This paper examines the effect of innovation strategy and R&D organization on the innovation performances in the Korean small and medium sized enterprises(SMEs). For the SMEs with limited resources and capabilities, the one of key strategic issues is to allocate innovation resources to the exploitation of existing technological capabilities and/or the exploration of new technological capabilities. Based upon survey data from 769 SMEs, this study investigated relationships among exploitation and exploration strategies, the existence of R&D organization, and innovation performance. Exploration is positively related to product and process innovation performances across the industrial sectors. However, exploitation is positively related only to the process innovation performance in the traditional manufacturing sectors. The existence of R&D organizations has positive effects on the product innovation performance and not on the process innovation performance. Finally, it discusses the managerial implications, the limitations of this study and the future research directions.

The purpose of this study is to examine the structural relationship between the digital platform capabilities of financial institutions and the impact of customer orientation on service innovation behavior through exploitation/exploration. A survey was conducted on employees of financial institutions to verify the research model, and the final 280 copies of the questionnaire were analyzed using SPSS 25 and SmartPLS 2.0. As a major research result, First, digital platform competency has a positive effect on exploitation and exploration. Second, customer orientation has a positive effect on exploitation, but not on exploration. Third, both exploitation and exploration have a positive impact on service innovation behavior. Through this research, this study shed new light on the relationship between digital platform capability and customer orientation that affects service innovation behavior of financial institutions, and expanded the scope of research through empirical research. Future research will require research attempts on various variables and research samples.

Kolao Holdings has a dominant market share in Lao Automotive market, wherever Japanese automotive makers have the biggest market share in other Southeast Asian countries. The company that was founded by a Korean in Laos has firstly listed on the Korean Stock Market among companies which Koreans founded abroad. Applying the model of Exploration and Exploitation by March(1991), this study is aiming at finding out what the management strategy leaded to Kolao's success in Laos. In addition, this study figured out the company's process innovation and cultural innovation. In result, it is summarized that the exploitation activities contributed to the entry to Lao market, the exploration activities to expanding market to neighboring countries, the process innovation to creation profits, and cultural innovation to sustainable growth.

In terms of deep Reinforcement Learning (RL), exploration can be worked stochastically in the action of a state space. On the other hands, exploitation can be done the proportion of well generalization behaviors. The balance of exploration and exploitation is extremely important for better results. The randomly selected action with ε-greedy for exploration has been regarded as a de facto method. There is an alternative method to add noise parameters into a neural network for richer exploration. However, it is not easy to predict or detect over-fitting with the stochastically exploration in the perturbed neural network. Moreover, the well-trained agents in RL do not necessarily prevent or detect over-fitting in the neural network. Therefore, we suggest a novel design of a deep RL by the balance of the exploration with drop-out to reduce over-fitting in the perturbed neural networks.

A new evolution method for strong exploration and strong exploitation termed queen-bee and mutant-bee evolution is proposed based on the previous queen-bee evolution [1]. Even though the queen-bee evolution has shown very good performances, two parameters for strong mutation are added to the genetic algorithms. This makes the application of genetic algorithms with queen-bee evolution difficult because the values of the two parameters are empirically decided by a trial-and-error method without a systematic method. The queen-bee and mutant-bee evolution has no this problem because it does not need additional parameters for strong mutation. Experimental results with typical problems showed that the queen-bee and mutant-bee evolution produced nearly similar results to the best ones of queen-bee evolution even though it didn't need to select proper values of additional parameters.

This study starts with the implication on why focusing on exploration innovation and exploitation strategy at the same time in NC Soft is so challenging. NC Soft manages to their online & mobile gaming competencies in the long term and achieves their sustainable growth by incremental innovation (e.g. game planning, game programming, and graphic design). Also, for innovative success, pursuing exploration strategy is essential. NC Soft have built a strategic alliance spanning K-POP, digital contents platform, movie, and animation, sharing the connectivity of entertainment domains with major contents corporations. The findings of this study would also beneficial to entertainment and contents corporation executives and could provide some road-map on managing the dual challenges of exploration and exploitation implementations.
