Stereoscopic particle image velocimetry is a measurement technique to acquire of three dimensional velocity field by two cameras. With a laser sheet illumination, the third velocity component can be deduced by out-of-plane velocity components using a stereoscopic matching method. Industrial fluid flows are almost three dimensional turbulent flows, so it is necessary to use the stereoscopic PIV measurement method. However the existing stereoscopic PIV system seems hard to use since it is very expensive and complex. In this study we have developed a Stereoscopic Miniature PIV(MPIV) system based on the concept of the Miniature PIV system which we have already developed. In this paper, we address the design and some first experimental results of the stereoscopic PIV system. The Stereoscopic MPIV system features relatively modest performances, but is considerably smaller, cheaper and easy to handle. The proposed Stereoscopic MPIV system uses two one-chip-only CMOS cameras with digital output. Only two other chips are needed, one for a buffer memory and one for an interfacing logic that controls the system. Images are transferred to a personal computer (PC) via its standard parallel port. No extra hardware is required (in particular, no frame grabber board is needed).
Case-based reasoning (CBR) is a reasoning technique that reuses past cases to find a solution to the new problem. It often shows significant promise for improving effectiveness of complex and unstructured decision making. It has been applied to various problem-solving areas including manufacturing, finance and marketing for the reason. However, the design of appropriate case indexing and retrieval mechanisms to improve the performance of CBR is still a challenging issue. Most of the previous studies on CBR have focused on the similarity function or optimization of case features and their weights. According to some of the prior research, however, finding the optimal k parameter for the k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) is also crucial for improving the performance of the CBR system. In spite of the fact, there have been few attempts to optimize the number of neighbors, especially using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. In this study, we introduce a genetic algorithm (GA) to optimize the number of neighbors to combine. This study applies the novel approach to Korean stock market. Experimental results show that the GA-optimized k-NN approach outperforms other AI techniques for stock market prediction.

This paper presents a new discrete-time fuzzy-sliding mode controller for robust vibration control of a smart structure featuring a piezofilm actuator. A governong equation of motion for the smart beam structure is derived and discrete-time codel with mismatched uncertainties such as parameter variations is constructed ina state space. A discrete-time sliding mode control system consisting of an equivalent controller and a discontinuous controller is formulated. In the design of the equivalent part, so called an equivalent controller separation method is adopted to achieve vzster convergence to a sliding surface without extension of a sliding region, in which the system robustness maynot be guaranteed. On the other hand, the discontinuous part is constructed on the basis of both the sliding and the convergence conditions using a time-varying feedback gain. The sliding moide controller is then incorporated with a fuzzy technique to appropriately determine principal control parameters such as a discountinuous feedback gain. Experimental implementation on the forced and random vibraiton controls is undertaken in order to demonstrate superior control performance of the proposed controller.

The use of composite structures is increasingly present in civil building works. Composite Box Girder Bridges (CBGB), particularly, are study of effect of shear connector's numbers and distribution on the behavior of CBGBs is submitted. A Predicti structures consisting of two materials, both connected by metal devices known as shear connectors. The main functions of these connectors are to allow for the joint behavior of the girder-deck, to restrict longitudinal slipping and uplifting at the element's interface and to take shear forces. This paper presents 3D numerical models of CBGBs to simulate their actual structural behavior, with emphasis on the girder-deck interface. Additionally, a Prediction of several FE models is assessed against the results acquired from a field test. A number of factors are considered, and confirmed through experiments, especially full shear connections, which are obviously essential in composite box girder. A good representation for shear connectors by suitable element type is considered. Numerical predictions of vertical displacements at critical sections fit fairly well with those evaluated experimentally. The agreement between the FE models and the experimental models show that the FE model can aid engineers in design practices of box girder bridges. Preliminary results indicate that number of shear studs can be significantly reduced to facilitate adoption of a new arrangement in modeling CBGBs with full composition. However, a further feasibility study to investigate the practical and economic aspects of such a remedy is recommended, and it may represent partial composition in such modeling.

An electron beam was used to mainly utilize for polishing, finishing, welding, a lithography process, etc. Due to the high technical level of difficulty of high-power density electron beam, it is difficult to secure related technologies. In this study, research was carried out to improve the machinability by developing the vaporized amplification sheets to realize the electron beam drilling technology. Their vaporized amplification sheets were analyzed by using the measurement of chemical and composition, which is such as TGA, SEM. We analyzed micro-hole processing using a microscope. Also, the thermal characteristics of vaporized amplification sheets are highly significant for applying to high-power density electron beam technique. So, we finished the vaporized amplification sheets according to the process conditions and analyzed it according to the machining conditions of the electron beam. It was confirmed that the effect on the experimental results differs depending on the influence of the metal powder contained in the developed material.

In this paper a new modeling and an optimal pole-placement control for the suspension system of Macpherson type are investigated. The rotational motion of the unsprung mass is emphasized in the new modeling. The two generalized coordinates selected in the new model are the vortical displacement of sprung mass and the angular displacement of control arm. Both variables are measured from their static equilibrium points. It is shown that the conventional model is a special case of the new model since the transfer function of the new model coincides with that of the conventional one if the lower support point of the shock absorber is located at the mass center of the unsprung mass. It is also shown that the resonance frequencies of the new model agree better with experimental results. Therefore, the new model is more general in the sense that it Provides an extra degree of freedom in determining the plant model for control system design. An optimal pole-placement control which combines LQ control and pole-placement technique is applied to the new model. Simulations are provided.

This paper describes the computer-aided design, fabrication and performance of high Q and high gain active filters suitable for microminiaturization in the frequency range of 10-800MHz, based on the negative resistance operation of a transistor. 48 as high as 1000 and a transducer gain as high as 35dB can readily be obtained with a single-transistor amplifier and with an inductance as small as a few nH at higher frequencies and 150 nH at lower frequencies in tile above frequency range. The gain of the proposed active filter can be stoabilized within $\pm$ 1.5 dB over the temperature range -1$0^{\circ}C$ to +5$0^{\circ}C$ and the temperature dependence of the center frequency is tapicalla 50ppm/$^{\circ}C$. An experimental FM receiver utilizing these fitters and operating at a carrier frequency of 92 MH3 was built. The whole circuit was fabricated on eight alumina substrates of by the thick-film hybrid IC technique and the coils are constructed, for miniaturization, in a spiral form of 3 or 4 turns of enamel copper wire with an overall diameter of about 5mm. The test results are also reported in this paper.
We propose efficient scan testing method capable of reducing the test data and power dissipation for digital logic circuits. The proposed testing method is based on a hybrid run-length encoding which reduces test data storage on the tester. We also introduce modified Bus-invert coding method and scan cell design in scan cell reordering, thus providing increased power saving in scan in operation. Experimental results for ISCAS'89 benchmark circuits show that average power of 96.7% and peak power of 84% are reduced on the average without fault coverage degrading. We have obtained a high reduction of 78.2% on the test data compared the existing compression methods.
Three-phase inductive superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) with DC reactor rated on 6.6 $KV_{rms}/200 A_{rms}$ has been developed in Korea. This system consists of one DC reactor, AC/DC power converter, and a three-phase transformer, which is called magnetic core reactor (MCR). This paper deals with the short-circuit analysis of the SFCL. The DC reactor was the HTS solenoid coil whose inductance was 84mH. The power converter was performed as the dual-mode operation for dividing voltage between the rectifying devices. The short-term normal operation (1 see) and short-circuit tests (2∼3 cycles) of this SFCL were performed successfully. In regular short-circuit test, the fault current was limited as 30% of rated short-circuit current at 2 cycles after the fault. The experimental results have a very similar tendency to the simulation results. Using the technique for the fault detection and SCR firing control, the fault current limiting rate of the SFCL was improved. From this research, the parameters for design and manufacture of large-scale SFCL were obtained.
Since the concept of a direct contact between bone and implants, without interposed soft- tissue layers, was reported by Dr. $Br{\aa}nemark$, there has been increasing necessity for correct under-standing of bone-implant interface and surrounding tissue response. Beside quality of bone, surgical technique, load applied to implants, one must consider implant materials, design and surface characteristics to obtain osseointegration. In this study HA plasma-sprayed implants, TPS implants and $Al_2O_3$ implants were inserted into the alveolar bone of dog and tissue response was observed with radiograph, stereoscope, light microscope, and scanning electron microscope. Results were as follows : 1. There was rapid and active bone formation in the region adjacent to HA plasma-sprayed implants but in the deep supporting bone only slight bone formation was seen. 2. There was considerable lamella bone formation in the region adjacent to TPS implants and the deep supporting bone became more compact. 3. There was some gap and sclerosing bone formation in the adjacent region of $Al_2O_3$ implants, but there was irregular new bone formation in the deep supporting bone. Therefore, it seems that $Al_2O_3$ is not adequate for osseointegrated implants.
