  • In this study, we studied the influence that the stress placed on children (originating from presence of two cultures at multi-cultural families) can have on adapting to school, and further assessed the control effect of teachers' support as a protection factor. In order to achieve the goal of the research, we identified samples of children between Grades 3-6 who came from multi-cultural families to carry out surveys. Based on the results of our analysis, the experience of discrimination and language conflicts experienced by children from multi-cultural families affected their academic activities (among adaptation factors to school experiences), while teachers' support appeared to have a control effect. However, for the influence of language conflicts on friend relationships (among adaptation factors to school experiences), teachers' support did not have a control effect. As such, based on this research result, we've proposed plans to improve school adaptation of children from multicultural families.

Methods: The data were collected through in-depth interview with 9 unmarried mothers from October 1, 2016 to February 2017 and this is qualitative research using Colazzi's phenomenological research method. Results: The living experiences of unmarried mothers institutionalized after childbirth had 15 themes in 4 theme clusters: 'childbirth and parenting,' 'living in women's refuge,' 'becoming independent as proud mother,' and 'disentangled thread.' Conclusion: After childbirth, unmarried mothers experienced psychological pressure from the need to cope with lonely and wearing reality by themselves but struggled to overcome the reality together with their child. Unmarried mothers hoped to live the life they chose proudly and happily together with their child. It is therefore necessary to give residential and environmental support to unmarried mothers in pursuit of their stable living and to change the awareness in the whole society with the aim of removing negative social attitude and discrimination, accepting differences, and living together.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify factors influencing suicidal ideation for the elderly living alone. Utilizing the identified factors as the base data, the study aims to develop community programs for suicide prevention. This research is a secondary analysis of the 2017 national survey, 'Survey on the Elderly,' conducting logistics regression analysis on the data collected on 10,299 elderly aged 65 or older living in 17 general residential facilities as of 2017. The analysis reveals that 10.5% of the elderly living alone have contemplated suicide. The frequency of suicidal ideation was attributed to such factors as gender, age, chronic disease, depression and experiences of abuse and discrimination. To prevent suicide among the elderly, therefore, active management from both public and private sectors are needed for early detection of chronic diseases and depression.

  • This study identified predictors of intention to work among people with disabilities who maintain economic inactivity for two successive years by analyzing a total of 2,255 Participants in the 2014 data of the Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled (PSED) with through $X^2$, t test, logistic regression. To explore factors affecting intention to work among people with disabilities who maintain economic inactivity, this study hypothesized the effectiveness of variables of demographic, disability, human resources, psycho-social factors based on previous studies. The analysis showed that male, spouse-being, low income status out of demographic variables were related to high probability of having intention to work among people with disabilities who maintain economic inactivity. In case of disability variables, experiencing disability-related discrimination significantly predicted the probability of having intention to work. However, the relationship between disability-related discrimination experiences and high intention to work needs to be viewed as correlated rather than cause-and-effect.In addition, literacy related to computer use/English proficiency/interpersonal and adaptation skills(human resources), experiences of vocational rehabilitation services (human resources), self-esteem (psycho-social) significantly predicted the probability of having intention to work among people with disabilities who maintained economic inactivity. Based on these results, support services for females with disabilities, effective rehabilitation programs of improving literacy related to computer use/English proficiency/interpersonal and adaptation skills and self-esteem, general expansion of vocational rehabilitation services for people with disabilities are suggested.

Conclusion: The result of this study would contribute to understanding academic and interpersonal difficulties North Korean defectors might experience at nursing colleges. And it may also help people to learn that they would play an important role in integration of the nursing fields of South and North Korea as well as the nation's unification. • This study examined the health status of female foreign spouses of multicultural families in Korea. More specifically, this study examined whether within-group difference exists depending on their country of origin in health status as well as determinants of their health status. For the analyses, data from the 2012 National Survey of Multicultural Families was used and a total of 165,451 spouses from China (both Korean-Chinese and Han Chinese), Vietnam, and The Philippines were included. The result showed that Vietnamese and Filipino women were healthier than Korean-Chinese and Han Chinese. The determinants and their size of the effect also varied across four groups of women. The results of this study highlight the importance of understanding immigrant women in the context of their ethnic background for interventions of their health. In addition, understanding their status and experiences in Korea must be in place for immigrant health studies, and potential differences by their country of origin must be considered in the development of health policies and practice.

  • In spite of increasing women migrants, proper social programs based on human rights are hardly found. In this paper, with the implication of 'diaspora', the essential term of multi-culturalism from the perspective of migrant women is briefly discussed. Also, social programs for migrant women are suggested through looking into the experiences of EU. EU policies and social programs are reorganized through data analysis and policy contents analysis. EU has longer history of immigration, and has provided the proper and long-term programs to accept migrant women as the qualified social member. EU social programs are based on the principles of non-discrimination, full employment, human rights and citizenship. Social programs should imply long-term inclusive policy for migrants, and help migrants to experience empowerment in the society. By looking into some examples of social programs of employment, education and general knowledge, useful social programs are to be suggested.

  • In this study, we investigated the effects of perceived health and ageism experience of the elderly on successful aging, which were respectively presumed as predictors of biomedical model and psychosocial model of the successful aging. As important research results, firstly, negligence among ageism experience constructs appeared higher than other discriminatory experiences. Secondly, male showed significantly higher discriminatory experience than female in the area of 3 constructs such as property, negligence and employment ageism. Also there were some different discriminative experiences in the area of perceived health and ageism in terms of age, wealth and education. Finally, the results of hierarchical multiple regression hired to find out factors influencing successful aging showed that the factors such as sex, wealth, perceived health and property discrimination of ageism affected successful ageing. Based on the analytic results, we verified that perceived health, i.e., predictor of biomedical model had higher effect on successful aging than ageism experience, i.e., predictor of psychosocial model of successful aging. Thus, it was suggested that health promotion policy should be considered with priority and also combating ageism as well for successful aging.

The data were collected through in-depth interviews with five leprous women. The following main themes were extracted from the practical experiences of leprous women over all their life-span: "encounter the divine punishment", "huge burden on a tiny body", and, "the candle to die down". These themes are listed and described in chronological order. Leprous women were forced to choose concentration hospital to survive social stigma and discrimination. In the hospital, leprous women were treated like a pest, and further deprived of their rights regarding marriage, pregnancy and child care. Until now, they still keep themselves away from society because of their ugly body even though the disease is completely gone. But they keep praying for their children's lives. Finally they accepted a life of tears and regrets and waited for death. This study offers practical knowledge and social work implications for Korean women with leprosy.
