A lab-scale fluidized bed heat exchanger for waste gas heat recovery is devised and tested. Compared to our previous works on fluidized bed type system with a single riser, the present heat exchanger system is featured by its multiple (four) risers to handle increased amount of exhaust gas. Particles are introduced to the main hot gas stream alongside the pipe circumference near riser inlets. The heat exchanger performance and pressure drop are evaluated through experiments for the present gas-to-water heat exchanger system.
One of the conventional gas burners has nowadays been used for ladle preheating. As a ladle is one of the open-type furnaces, however, it causes to consume much fuel because of high temperature of exhaust gas from the ladle and the exhaust gas passing through ladle cover makes it worsen a working environment nearby. Therefore, the objective of this study is to develop the recuperative burner system applying for an existing teeming ladle , which is integrated with burner, recuperator and eductor as one of the new type combustion equipments and has many advantages of simple installation, compactness and easy control, especially a great deal of energy saving through the waste heat recovery from exhaust gas. The contents of the study is to design, manufacture of recuperative burner system and to perform its tests experimentally after applying to the teeming ladle in the capacity of 100 ton. Its heat release rate is 1,700,000 kcal/h with COG(Cokes Oven Gas) as fuel gas. The test items are the temperature distribution inside the ladle and the preheated air temperature change depending upon the exhaust gas. Nox, exhaust gas analysis and noise.
Recently, microturbines have received attention as a small-scale distributed power generator. Since the exhaust gas carries all of the heat release, generating hot water is usual method of heat recovery from microturbine CHP (combined heat and power) systems. The power of microturbines decreases as ambient temperature increases. This study predicted micoturbine power boost by injecting hot water generated by heat recovery. Influence of injecting water at two different locations was examined. Water injection improves power, but efficiency depends much on the injection location. Injecting water at the compressor discharge shows a much higher efficiency than the combustor injection. However, the combustor injection may have as much available cogeneration heat as the dry operation, while the available heat in the compressor discharge injection is much smaller than the dry operation.

Heat recovery steam generator(HRSG) is a principal component of the combined cycle power plant (CCPP) which utilizes the waste energy of the gas turbine exhaust gas. A design of the HRSG is a keypoint to achieve high cycle efficiency with competitive cost. This paper presents a brief review on the design of a HRSG which covers the basic design parameters and their effects on the performance and the investment cost. Finally the concept of the optimum design point is presented according to the selection of a pinch point temperature difference and a steam pressure as an illustrated case.
Micro gas turbine(MGT) has received attention recently as small-scale distributed power sources. With characteristics such as their small size, lightweight, low maintenance cost and minimal vibrations during operation, they are expected to become widespread in a wide range of ' applications, including residential and small-scale industrial use. It is very easier to start-up and stop the MGT system which is the friendly environmental power system has just below the 9ppm NOx emmission and good quality of noise level. The exhaust heat emitted by the MGT is in the form of about $300^{\circ}C$ clean exhaust gas. The exhaust gas is suitable for absorption chiller/heater system. 1 has researched performance characteristics of the 60 kW class MGT-absorption chiller-heater system in the local condition. Variations of heat recovery from exhaust gas has measured according to micro gas turbine output of 15, 30, 45, 60kW. From those results, the performance of the MGT-absorption chiller/heater system has been evaluated.
A 2-loop waste heat recovery system with Rankine steam cycles for the improvement of fuel efficiency of gasoline vehicles has been investigated. A high temperature loop(HT loop) is a system to recover the waste heat from the exhaust gas, a low temperature loop(LT loop) is for heat recovery from the engine coolant cold relatively. This paper has dealt with a layout of a LT loop system, the review of the working fluids, and the design of the cycle. The design point and the target heat recovery of the LT boiler, a core part of a LT loop, has been presented and analytically investigated. Considering the characteristics of the cycle, the basic concept of the LT boiler has been determined as a shell-and tube type counterflow heat exchanger, the performance characteristics for various design parameters were investigated.

Hydrogen is bridge fuel with high energy content and environmentally friendly to satisfy the stringent IMO regulation relating to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. There is growing interest in hydrogen in numerous nations and regions illustrated by an extensive range of research and development in technology. Regarding maritime applications, researchers have recognized the utilization of hydrogen as a fuel for fuel cells, a device that converts the chemical energy of the fuel to electrical energy. Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), with high working temperature, is easy to combine with the waste heat recovery cycles/devices to increase output power and thermodynamic performances as well. Furthermore, the cold energy from liquid hydrogen supplied to SOFC can also be used to generate more power. In this study, we proposed a SOFC integrated system with the idea of combining the waste heat recovery from the SOFC exhaust stream and cold energy utilization from LH2. The designation is aimed to target small-scale vessel which uses electric propulsion for short distances voyage.
In recent, there are tremendous efforts to apply co-generation concept in automobile to improve its thermal efficiency. The co-generation is basically a simple Rankine Cycle that uses the waste heat from the engine exhaust and coolant for heat source. In spite of developed nano technology and advance material science, the bulky co-generation system is still a big concern in automotive application. Therefore, the system should be effectively designed not to add much weight on the vehicle, but the capacity of the waste heat recovery should be still large. With such a goal in mind, the system thermal efficiency was investigated in terms of the system operation condition and working fluid. This paper provides a direction for the optimal design of the automotive co-generation system.
