  • In order to provide basic data for designing the outdoor exercise environment to promote the health of the citizens, this study has analyzed the status of citizens' use of outdoor exercise places that have been supplied extensively recently and the factors affecting the citizens' choice of the places. A survey was made on 20 spots in 12 places where outdoor exercise equipment is installed to identify the characteristics of use and the factors affecting the selection of the spots and for the 1,733 survey sheets collected finally SPSS program was used to analyze the multiple answers. Major results of this research are as follows: First, since light exercise equipment mostly for bodily exercises has been installed, it has brought practical effects for the physically weak people, aged people and the people who scarcely exercise, while decreasing the users' economic burdens. Second, the scales of important factors the users think in selecting their exercise spots were 'spaciousness (2,028 times)' > 'accessibility (1,751 times)' > 'fitness (1,583' > 'supportability (1,445)' > 'community centeredness (1,260).' Third, the ratios of important factors regarding the choice of environment of outdoor exercise were 'near to walk (16.1%)' > 'nice natural environment (12.3%)' > 'always free to exercise (9.7%)' > 'shortage of exercise equipment (7.4%)' > 'possible to accompany family/neighbors (6.7%)' > 'no economic burden (6.5%).

  • This study investigated changes in salivary cortisol, lactic acid, and heart rate along the route during walking exercise in a forest environment for the purpose of reducing stress. Walking exercise in a forest environment was conducted on a Hill Type (Distance: 800m, Average slope 25°, Altitude 112m) and Step Type (Distance: 800m, Average slope 25°, Altitude 114m) routes for 10 female college students in their 20s. The subjects were asked to walk at a speed of 60 bpm. The resulting changes in salivary cortisol, lactate, and average heart rate during exercise were compared and analyzed using Repeated Measurement two-way ANOVA, and the maximum heart rate during exercise and average heart rate at rest were compared and analyzed using paired t-test, and the following results were obtained. First, there was no significant difference in salivary cortisol depending on the type and period of the forest, but it tended to gradually decrease. Second, there was a significant difference in lactic acid depending on the type and period, and it was higher in Step Type. Third, there was a significant difference in the average heart rate during exercise, and it was higher in Step Type. Fourth, there was a significant difference in maximum heart rate during exercise, and it was higher in Step Type. Fifth, there was no significant difference in average heart rate during rest. In summary, walking exercise in a forest environment can be effective for stress reduction for female college students in their 20s, but it appears that forest routes should be selected according to physical strength level, and walking exercise in a forest environment for long periods of time is not recommended. For this purpose, it is suggested that it is appropriate to select the Hill Type route.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the pre- and post-exercise performance, edema, and pain of plyometrics in water and land environments. Twelve males in their 20s were selected as subjects and performed 10 sets of squat jumps 10 times in 2 environmental conditions (water and ground). There was no significant difference in iEMG of vastus medilais according to exercise conditions and time. In MPV of CMJ, there was no significant difference according to exercise conditions and time. The thigh circumference showed a significant difference according to the exercise condition and time, and was higher in the ground condition after exercise. There was a significant difference in pain according to the exercise condition and time, and it was found to be high after exercise, 48 hours, and 72 hours in the ground condition. We believe that plyometric training in an aquatic environment will have less swelling and pain compared to plyometric training conducted in a land environment, and the pain will improve quickly, so we think that training can be conducted in a relatively shorter period than in the land environment.

Method: To analyze the effect on the dumbbell curl exercise in the virtual environment, a total of 20 persons with 10 males and 10 females who does not have orthopedics diseases were selected. The dumbbell weight of the subjects was set to a weight of 70% strength of 1RM. At this time, the virtual environment situation was set to four types; presence/absence of virtual environment, preferred colors, and unfavorable colors to perform dumbbell curl exercise. The anaysis of muscle activity was conducted by adhering four surface electrodes (Biceps Brachii, Triceps Brachii, Brachioradialis Muscle, Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus Muscle) on the right upper limbs. Independent sample t-test using SPSS (24.0) program was carried out to analyze average values and standard deviations for each variable depending on the presence/absence of virtual environments and changes in color (preferred colors, unfavorable colors) and the level of significance was set to a=.05. Results: In the eccentric contraction, males showed high muscle activity in the Biceps Brachii under virtual reality. On the other hand, females had high muscle activity in the Biceps Brachii in the absence of virtual reality. Also, in case of a change of colors in the virtual environment, females had the high muscle activity in the unfavorable color in the eccentric contraction. Conclusion: During the dumbbell curl exercise, results of different exercises present depending on gender. When males put VR on and performs a basic dumbbell curl exercise, the effect of Biceps presents Brachii for them while exercising in unfavorable colors. However, since it is the basic research data of muscle exercise using virtual reality, it is necessary to verify whether or not it is effective for myopachynsis through long-term training rather than unity.

  • Objectives : The effects of exercise on bone density have been found to be inconsistent in previous studies. We conducted a cross-sectional study in premenarcheal girls to test two hypotheses to explain these inconsistencies. Firstly,'the intensity of mechanical strain, in terms of the ground reaction force(GRF), has more important effects on the bone mass at a weight-bearing site', and secondly, 'calcium intake modifies the bone response to exercise'. Methods : The areal bone mineral density was measured at the Os calcis, using peripheral dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, in 91 premenarcheal girls aged between 9 and 12 years. The intensity of mechanical strain of exercise was assessed by a self-report questionnaire and scored by the GRF as multiples of body weight, irrespective of the frequency and duration of exercise. The energy and calcium intake were calculated from the 24-hour dietary recall. An analysis of covariance(ANCOVA) was used to determine the interaction and main effects of exercise and calcium on the bone density, after adjusting for age, weight, height and energy intake. Results : The difference in the bone density between moderate and low impact exercise was more pronounced in the high than low calcium intake group. The bone density for moderate impact exercise and high calcium intake was significantly higher than that for low impact exercise (p=0.046) and low calcium intake, after adjusting for age, weight, height and energy intake. Conclusions : Our study suggests that the bone density at a weight-bearing site is positively related to the intensity of mechanical loading exercise, and the calcium intake may modify the bone response to exercise at the loaded site in premenarcheal girls.
