마이크로 유전알고리듬의 최적설계 응용에 관한 연구 (Applications of Micro Genetic Algorithms to Engineering Design Optimization)

  • The paper describes the development and application of advanced evolutionary computing techniques referred to as micro genetic algorithms ($\mu$GA) in the context of engineering design optimization. The basic concept behind $\mu$GA draws from the use of small size of population irrespective of the bit string length in the representation of design variable. Such strategies also demonstrate the faster convergence capability and more savings in computational resource requirements than simple genetic algorithms (SGA). The paper first explores ten-bar truss design problems to see the optimization performance between $\mu$GA and SGA. Subsequently, $\mu$GA is applied to a realistic engineering design problem in the injection molding process optimization.

  • This paper introduces the application of evolutionary fuzzy modeling (EFM) in constructing global function approximations to subsequent use in non-gradient based optimizations strategies. The fuzzy logic is employed for express the relationship between input training pattern in form of linguistic fuzzy rules. EFM is used to determine the optimal values of membership function parameters by adapting fuzzy rules available. In the study, genetic algorithms (GA's) treat a set of membership function parameters as design variables and evolve them until the mean square error between defuzzified outputs and actual target values are minimized. We also discuss the enhanced accuracy of function approximations, comparing with traditional response surface methods by using polynomial interpolation and back propagation neural networks in its ability to handle the typical benchmark problems.

  • Stress Path Search Model of Evolutionary Structural Successive Optimization (SPSMESO) using Triangular Irregular Network(TIN) was developed for improving over burden at initial design of ESO and strict stress direction of strut-and-tie model and truss model. TIN was applied for discretizing structures in flexible stress path and segments of TIN was analyzed as one-dimensional line element for calculating stress. Finally, stress path was searched using ESO algorithm. SPSMESO was efficient to express the direction of stress for 2D structure and time saving.

  • In designing the structure, the stress path is the basic data. But the stress path is not standardized to analysis the structure. So the one-dimensional frame element structure model with the triangle irregular network is used to solve the problem. And the refined evolutionary structural optimization(RESO) used in structural topology optimization is applied to this study. Through this process, the search method of the stress path is advanced and the burden of the calculation. is reduced.

  • Biaffine Matrix Inequality (BMI) is known to provide the most general framework in control synthesis, but problems involving BMI's are very difficult to solve because nonconvex optimization should be solved. In the previous paper, we proposed a new solver for problems involving BMI's using Evolutionary Algorithms (EA). In this paper, we solve several control synthesis examples such as Reduced-order control, Simultaneous stabilization, Multi-objective control, $H_{\infty}$ optimal control, Maxed $H_2$ / $H_{\infty}$control design, and Robust $H_{\infty}$ control. Each of these problems is formulated as the standard BMI form, and solved by the proposed algorithm. The performance in each case is compared with those of conventional methods.

Evolutionary Viewpoint on GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) in Chordata - Amino Acid and Nucleic Acid Sequences

  • GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) is a supreme hormone regulating reproductive activity in most animals. The sequences of amino acid and nucleic acid of GnRH reported up to now are examined from the evolutionary framework of Chordata. All identified GnRH are classified into GnRH1, GnRH2, or GnRH3. In all three forms of GnRH both N-terminal and C-terminal are conserved, which allows for effective binding to their receptors. The three amino acids in the middle of GnRH1 sequence have altered diversely from the primitive Chordata, which is indicative of the adaptation process to the ambient environment. GnRH2 and GnRH3 sequences are well conserved. There are more diverse modifications in the nucleic acids than in amino acid sequence of GnRH1. These variations can result from meiosis, mutation, or epigenetics and indicate that GnRH is the product of natural selection.

전기철도차량 경제운전 모형 개발 (Development of Economical Run Model for Electric Railway Vehicle)

  • The Optimization has been performed to search an economical running pattern in the view point of trip time and energy consumption. Fuzzy control model have been applied to build the meta-model. To identify the structure and its parameters of a fuzzy model, fuzzy c-means clustering method and differential evolutionary scheme are utilized, respectively. As a result, two meta-models for trip time and energy consumption were constructed. The optimization to search an economical running pattern was achieved by differential evolutionary scheme. The result shows that the proposed methodology is very efficient and conveniently applicable to the operation of railway system.

Effects of strong ground motions of near source earthquakes on response of thin-walled L-shaped steel bridge piers

  • Near source earthquakes can be characterized not only by strong horizontal but also by strong vertical ground motions with broad range of dominant frequencies. The inelastic horizontal response of thin-walled L-shaped steel bridge piers, which are popularly used as highway bridge supports, subjected to simultaneous horizontal and vertical ground excitations of near source earthquakes is investigated. A comprehensive damage index and an evolutionary-degrading hysteretic model are applied. Numerical analysis reveals that the strong vertical excitation of a near source earthquake exerts considerable influences on the damage development and horizontal response of thin-walled L-shaped steel bridge piers.

  • Audible noise (AN) produced by corona discharges from high voltage transmission lines is one of the more important considerations in line design. Therefore, line designers must pre-determine the AN using prediction formulas. This paper presents the results of applying evolutionary computation techniques using AN data from lines throughout the world to develop new, highly accurate formulas for predicting a A-weighted AN during heavy rain and stable rain from overhead ac lines. Calculated ANs using these new formulas and existing formulas are compared with measured data.
