Ar+O2 혼합가스 취입에 의한 용철의 탈탄 반응속도 (Decarbonization Kinetics of Molten Iron by Ar+O2 Gas Bubbling)

  • Molten iron with 2 mass % carbon content was decarbonized at 1823 K~1923 K by bubbling $Ar+O_2$ gas through a submerged nozzle. The reaction rate was significantly influenced by the oxygen partial pressure and the gas flow rate. Little evolution of CO gas was observed in the initial 5 seconds of the oxidation; however, this was followed by a period of high evolution rate of CO gas. The partial pressure of CO gas decreased with further progress of the decarbonization. The overall reaction is decomposed to two elementary reactions: the decarbonization and the dissolution rate of oxygen. The assumptions were made that these reactions are at equilibrium and that the reaction rates are controlled by mass transfer rates within and around the gas bubble. The time variations of carbon and oxygen contents in the melt and the CO partial pressure in the off-gas under various bubbling conditions were well explained by the mathematical model. Based on the present model, it was explained that the decarbonization rate of molten iron was controlled by gas-phase mass transfer at the first stage of reaction, but the rate controlling step was transferred to liquid-phase mass transfer from one third of reaction time.

Estimation of Fuel Rate on the Galactic Disk from High Velocity Cloud (HVC) Infall

  • Continuous accretion of metal-poor gas can explain the discrepancy between the number of observed G-dwarfs and the number predicted by the "simple model" of galactic evolution. The maximum accretion rate estimated based upon approaching high velocity clouds (HVCs) can be up to ${\sim}0.4M_{\odot}{\cdot}yr^{-1}$ which is comparable with the accretion rate required by many chemical evolution models that is at least ${\sim}0.45M_{\odot}{\cdot}yr^{-1}$. However, it is not clear to what extent the exchange of gas between the disk and the cloud can occur when an HVC collides with the galactic disk. Therefore, we examined a series of HVC-Disk collision simulations using the FLASH 2.5 hydrodynamics simulation code. The outcomes of our simulations show that an HVC will more likely take away substances from the galactic disk rather than adding new material to the disk. We define this as an HVC having a "negative fuel rate". Further results in our study also indicate that the process and amount of fuel rate change can have various forms depending on the density, radius and velocity of an approaching HVC. The simulations in our study covers HVCs with a neutral hydrogen volume density from $1.0{\times}10^{-2}cm^{-3}$ to $41.0cm^{-3}$, radius of 200 pc to 1000 pc and velocity in the range between $40km{\cdot}s^{-1}$ and $100km{\cdot}s^{-1}$.

잣나무엽(葉)의 초기(初期) 분해과정(分解過程)에 있어서 무기태(無機態) 질소(窒素) 및 CO2 방출속도(放出速度)의 변화(變化) (Changes of Inorganic Nitrogen and CO2 Evolution Rate on the Decomposition Process of Korean White Pine Needles)

  • 잣나무의 녹엽(綠葉), 낙엽(落葉), F층(層)의 엽(葉)과 떡갈 및 굴참나무의 녹엽(綠葉)을 각각 토양(土壤)에 혼합(混合)하여 53일간 $30^{\circ}C({\pm}1)$로 항온배양(恒温培養)하는 동안 토양중(土壤中)의 무기태(無機態) 질소(窒素) 및 $CO_2$ 방출속도(放出速度)의 변화(變化)를 측정(測定)하여 다음의 결과(結果)를 얻었다. 1) 배양초기(培養初期)에는 무기태(無機態) 질소(窒素)의 유기화(有機化)로 무기태(無機態) 질소량(窒素量)의 감소(減少)가 강(強)하게 일어났고, 시간(時間)의 경과(經過)에 따라 점차 증가(增加) 하였다. 2) 혼합(混合)한 엽중(葉中)의 유기태(有機態) 질소(窒素)의 유기화속도(有機化速度)는 잣나무의 엽중(葉中) 녹엽(綠葉)에서 가장 컸으나, 굴참 및 떡갈나무의 녹엽(綠葉)보다는 작았다. 3) $CO_2$ 방출속도(放出速度)의 크기는 굴참나무녹엽(綠葉), 떡갈나무녹엽(綠葉), 잣나무녹엽(綠葉), 잣나무 낙엽(落葉), F층(層)의 잣나무엽(葉)을 혼합(混合)한 토양(土壤)의 순(順)이었고, 시간의 경과(經過)에 따라 점차 감소했다. 4) 질산태(窒酸態) 질소량(窒素量)은 점차 증가(增加)하여 배양(培養) 53일 후에, 암모니아태(態應) 질소량(窒素量)을 상회(上迴)하였다.

소나 표적의 특징정보추출을 위한 진화적 PSR 추정 알고리즘 (Evolutionary PSR Estimation Algorithm for Feature Extraction of Sonar Target)

  • 실제 시스템 적용에 있어서, 소나 표적의 특징정보추출을 위한 PSR(Propeller Shaft Rate) 추정 알고리즘은 다음과 같은 문제점들을 가지고 있다. 즉, 주파수 스펙트럼 기반의 소나 표적 식별에 있어서 다중의 스펙트럼 선들로부터 기본 주파수와 그 고조파들로 구성된 하모닉군을 구별하는 깃은 필수적이면서도 어렵기 때문에 정확하고 효율적인 기본주파수 발견법을 요구한다. 나아가, 구조와 파라메터에 있어서 용이한 설계 절차를 요구한다 이 문제들을 해결하기 위해서 전문가 지식 및 진화 전략(ES : Evolution Strategy)을 이용하는 진화적인PSR 추정 알고리즘이 제안되었다. 제안된 알고리즘의 성능을 검증하기 위해서는 소나 표적의 PSR 추정이 수행되었다. 시뮬레이션 결과는 제안된 알고리즘이 실시간 시스템 적용에서 존재하는 문제점들을 효과적으로 해결할 수 있음을 보여준다.

시비법의 벼의 탈입과 Ethylene 생성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Fertilization Methods on Ethylene Evolution and Shattering in Rice Grains)

  • 시비법을 달리하여 재배된 벼가 태풍(벼 등숙기인 8월 28~29일) 피해로 인하여 일어났던 탈리정도의 차이를 분석코자 가 시험구의 출수기, 수량 및 에틸렌 생성량 등과의 관계를 검토한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 질소첨가 시비구(질소단용구, NP구, NK구, NPK+SiO$_2$구, NPK+퇴비구)는 질소무첨가 시비구(무비구, 무비+퇴비구, 무질소구, P단용구, K단용구)보다 탈입율이 낮았고 에틸렌 생성량도 낮았다. 2. 수도의 시비법에 따른 에틸렌 생성량과는 정의 유의상관(r=0.718*)을 곡실수량과는 부의 유의상관(r=-0.858**)을 보였다.

Role of star formation and resulting properties from equal mass disk merger simulations

  • In the hierarchical universe, galaxy merger is predicted to be frequent, and thus it is an important element for understanding galaxy evolution. In particular, star formation is greatly enhanced during the merger. The aim of this study is to understand the position and rate change of star formation caused by equal-mass edge-on mergers. We use the GADGET2- N-body/SPH code, and fully consider gas cooling, star formation, and supernova feedback. We show the star formation rate (SFR), and the magnitude and color evolution of the merger remnants for 18 different configurations varying orbit elements and inclinations of host galaxies against orbit planes. Then we construct the mock images of the remnants and investigate on how equal-mass galaxy merger affects the SFR and color/magnitude evolution while considering dust reddening. We conclude that over 90% mass of SF in equal-mass merger is in the central region. SF in tidal feature involves a small fraction of new stars and thus is difficult to detect unless deep imaging is performed. Around 55 ${\pm}$ 5 percent of gas turns into stars until the final coalescence which typically corresponds to 0.8, 1.2, and 2.5 Gyr for direct, parabolic, and elliptical orbit, respectively. This result is roughly consistent with Cox et al. 2000. We plan to implement this result into semi-analytic model of galaxy formation. Caveats and future work on merging conditions are discussed.

  • The forging process design and microstructure evolution for gas turbine disk of a Waspaloy is investigated in this study. Parameters related to deformation are die and preform geometry, and forging temperature of die and workpiece. Die and preform design are considered to reduce the forging load, and to avoid the forging defects. Blocker and finisher dies for multistage forging are designed and the initial billet geometry is determined. The control of hot forging parameters such as strain, strain rate and temperature also is important because the microstructure change in hot working affects the mechanical properties. The dynamic recrystallization evolution has been studied in the temperature range 900-$1200^{\circ}C$ and strain rate range 0.01-1.0s-1 using hot compression tests. Modeling equations are required represent the flow curve, recrystallized grain size, recrystallized volume fraction by various tests. In this study, we used to thermo-viscoplastic finite element modeling equation of DEFORM-2D to predict the microstructure change evolution during thermo-mechanical processing. The microstructure is updated during the entire thermal and deformation processes in forging.

결정 소성학과 강소성 유한요소해석을 연계한 ECAE 공정에서의 변형 집합 조직 발달에 대한 연구 (Prediction of Texture Evolution in Equal Channel Angular Extrusion (ECAE) Using Rate-Independent Crystal Plasticity with Rigid-Plastic Finite Element Method)

  • Recently, the change of mechanical properties and microstructural evolution during severe plastic deformation (SPD), such as Equal Channel Angular Extrusion (ECAE), has been the subject of intensive investigation because of the unique physical and mechanical properties of severely deformed materials. In this study, two types of ECAE processes were considered, dies with intersection angles ${\Phi}$ of $90^{\circ}$ and $120^{\circ}$, using experiments and simulations. The decoupled method, in which the rigid-plastic finite element method is incorporated with the rate-independent crystal plasticity model, was applied to predict the texture evolution in commercially pure aluminum during the ECAE processes with $120^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ dies. The simulated textures were compared with a measured texture via an EBSD OIM analysis. The comparison showed that the simulated textures generally were in good agreement with the experimentally measured texture.

  • We construct a simple photometric evolution model of galaxies based on the evolutionary population synthesis. In our models an exponentially decreasing SFR with a power law IMF is used to compute the UBV colors of galaxies from ellipticals to late type spirals. It is shown that the integrated colors of galaxies with different Hubble type can be explained by one parameter, SFR.

MIN-SUM 복호화 알고리즘을 이용한 LDPC 오류정정부호의 성능분석 (Convergence of Min-Sum Decoding of LDPC codes under a Gaussian Approximation)

  • 최근에 소개된 density evolution 기법은 sum-product 알고리즘에서 LDPC 부호가 갖는 성능의 한계를 분석하였다[1]. 또한. Iterative decoding 알고리즘에서 전달되는 정보가 Gaussian 확률분포를 갖는 점을 이용하여 기존의 density evolution 기법을 단순화 시킨 연구결과가 소개되었다[2]. 한편. LDPC 부호의 한계 성능을 sum-product가 아닌 min-sum 알고리즘에서 분석한 결과가 최근에 발표되었다[3]. 본 논문에서는 이러한 일련의 연구 결과를 바탕으로 min-sum 알고리즘을 이용하면서 Gaussian 확률 분포 특성을 이용한 density evolution 기법을 소개한다. 제안된 density evolution 기법은 기존의 방법보다 적은 계산으로 정확한 threshold를 구할 수 있으며. 그 결과가 numerical simulation 결과와 잘 일치함을 나타내었다.
