Company-wide initiatives mandate understanding the benefits of adopting e-Business. A benefits evaluation may ensure that the company's Web site in integral, rather than supplemental, to its business and revenue goals. Our research is motivated by the goal of extracting anticipated benefits factors of e-Business in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises(SMEs) in Korea. And we examined the impacts of anticipated benefits factors on the extent of assimilation in SMEs. Eight benefits factors emerged from this study: productivity, competitiveness, management, customer relationship, information quality, interorganization, cost down, and marketing. And competitiveness, customer relationship, interorganization, and marketing were influenced assimilation of e-Business in SMEs. But productivity, management, information quality, cost down did not.
This study proposes a web presence readiness model based on pre-payment service functions and a post-payment service function both of which embrace the major concerns of customers in the online purchasing context. Based on the concept of customer utility from the product itself and instrumental utility, the research model suggests four antecedents including, Perceived Economic Benefits, Product Search Support Quality, e-Shopping Method Diversity, and Post-Payment Support Quality. We empirically examined a proposed research model using data collected from online rating company websites. Among the four antecedents, post payment support quality is found to be the most influential determinant of customer evaluation on e-commerce websites. Based on the empirical results, the current study proposes an alternate model of web presence readiness. The findings of this study may provide an insight to field practitioners designing commercial websites. The implications and future research directions are further discussed.

Purpose: A risk evaluation procedure is proposed for common failure causes in FMEA(Failure Mode and Effects Analysis). The conventional FMEA does not provide a proper means to compare common failure causes with other failure causes. This research aims to develop a risk evaluation procedure in FMEA where common failure causes and other failure causes exist together. Methods: For each common failure cause, the effect of each combination of its resulting failures is recommended to be reevaluated considering their interactive worsening effect. And the probability that each combination of failures is incurred by the same common cause is also considered. Based on these two factors, the severity of each common cause is determined. Other procedures are similar to the conventional method. Results: The proposed procedure enables to compare and prioritize every failure cause. Thus, the common causes, each of which incurring two or more failures, and other causes, each of which is corresponding to one failure, can be fairly compared. Conclusion: A fair and proper way of comparing the common failure causes and other causes is provided. The procedure is somewhat complicated and requires more works to do. But it is worth to do.

In this paper, software activity, software activity instance, and the quality of the activity instance are defined as the 'activity which is performed on the software product by a person or a group of persons,' the 'distinctive and individual performance of software activity,' and the 'performer's evaluation on how good or bad his/her own activity instance is,' respectively. The representative values of the instance quality population associated with a product and its sub-population are defined as the (software) activity quality and activity quality characteristic of the product, respectively. The activity quality model in this paper classifies activity quality characteristics according to the classification hierarchy of software activity by the goal. In the model, a quality characteristic can have two types of sub-characteristics : Special sub-characteristic and component sub-characteristic, where the former is its super-characteristic too simultaneously and the latter is not its super-characteristic but a part of its super-characteristic. The activity quality model is parsimonious, coherent, and easy to understand and use. The activity quality model can serve as a corner stone on which a software quality body of knowledge, which constituted with a set of models parsimonious, coherent, and easy to understand and use and the theories explaining the cause-and-relationships among the models, can be built. The body of knowledge can be called the (grand) activity-centric quality model of software.
Recently, various approaches to recommendation systems have been studied in terms of the quality of recommendation system. A recommender system basically aims to provide personalized recommendations to users for specific items. Most of these systems always recommend the most relevant items of users or items. Traditionally, the evaluation of recommender system quality has focused on the various predictive accuracy metrics of these. However, recommender system must be not only accurate but also useful to users. User satisfaction with recommender systems as an evaluation criterion of recommender system is related not only to how accurately the system recommends but also to how much it supports the user's decision making. In particular, highly serendipitous recommendation would help a user to find a surprising and interesting item. Serendipity in this study is defined as a measure of the extent to which the recommended items are both attractive and surprising to the users. Therefore, this paper proposes an application of serendipity measure to recommender systems to evaluate the performance of recommender systems in terms of recommendation system quality. In this study we define relevant or attractive unexpectedness as serendipity measure for assessing recommendation systems. That is, serendipity measure is evaluated as the measure indicating how the recommender system can find unexpected and useful items for users. Our experimental results show that highly serendipitous recommendation such as item-based collaborative filtering method has better performance than the other recommendations, i.e. user-based collaborative filtering method in terms of recommendation system quality.
The goal of this paper is to examine the effects of a CDSS(Clinical Decision Support System) for drug prescription on organizational performance in medical institutions using POC(Point Of Care) systems. For achieving this goal, evaluation factors for influencing performance of information system were identified by using the performance evaluation model for CDSS. In the results, there was significant causality between each evaluation domain except system quality domain. In addition, the system quality of CDSS for optimal drug prescription has no influence on user satisfaction. But information quality has positive influence on user satisfaction which has also a positive influence on organizational performance.
It is widely known that usability is a critical quality attribute of IT systems. Many studies have developed various methods for finding out usability problems. Usability professionals have emphasized that usability should be integrated into the development life cycle in order to maximize the usability of systems with minimal cost. To achieve this, it is essential to classify usability problems systematically and connect them into the activities of designing user interfaces and tasks. However, there is a lack of framework or method for these two problems and thus remains a challengeable research issue. As a beginning study, this paper proposes a conceptual framework for addressing the two issues. We firstly summarize usability-related studies so far, including usability factors and evaluation methods. Secondly, we review seven approaches to identifying and classifying usability problems. Based on this review and opinions of usability engineers in real industry as well as the review results, this paper proposes a framework comprising three viewpoints, from which more sound classification scheme of usability problems can be inductively developed.

Recently, the standardization of backward compatible JPEG image coding for high dynamic range (HDR) image has been undertaken to establish an international standard called "JPEG XT." The JPEG XT consists of two layers: the base layer and the residual layer. The base layer contains tone mapped low dynamic range (LDR) image data and the residual layer contains the error signal used to reconstruct the HDR image. This paper gives the result of a study to evaluate the overall performance of tone mapping operators (TMOs) for this standard. The evaluation is performed using five HDR image datasets and six TMOs for profiles A, B, and C of the proposed JPEG XT standard. The Tone Mapped image Quality Index (TMQI) and no reference image quality assessment (NR IQA) are used for measuring the LDR image quality. The peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) is used to evaluate the overall compression performance of JPEG XT profiles A, B, and C. In TMQI and NR IQA measurements, TMOs using display adaptive tone mapping and adaptive logarithmic mapping each gave good results. A TMO using adaptive logarithmic mapping gave good PSNRs.
Model-driven and component-oriented development is increasingly being used in the development of embedded systems. When combined, both paradigms provide several advantages, such as higher reuse rates, and improved system quality. Performing model-driven and component-oriented development should be accompanied by a component model and a method that prescribes how the component model is used. This article provides an overview on the MARMOT method, which consists of an abstract component model and a methodology for the development of embedded systems. The paper describes a feasibility study that demonstrates MARMOT's capability to alleviate system design, verification, implementation, and reuse. Results indicate that model-driven and component-based development following the MARMOT method outperforms Agile development for embedded systems, leads to maintainable systems, and higher than normal reuse rates.
