In the past, abundant and clean water was available for paper mills'use. However, the growth of population and industry made water less available nowadays. Also, environmental regulation limits wastewater discharge, which affects mill operation cost. Therefore, paper mills are under pressure to use more recycled water and mill system closure. As a result, chemical and physical parameters of water are changing and new environment if being created for microorganisms in paper mill system as well. The more soluble or suspended organic materials are increased as more water is recycled and less or scarce dissolved oxygen is available, depending on the degree of recycled water usage. Microorganism flora ill paper mill system will be a1so shifted according to the environmental change of mill system. Anaerobic bacteria, including sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB), will be dominant in the system as very low or almost no oxygen available in the system. Nevertheless, it is common in domestic paper mills that employ the same and old biocides as a means of microbial control, and microbiological control is often less recognized or even neglected. The right biocide selection for increased reductive environment of mills is critical for operation and estimated loss from paper quality defects such as sheet break, holes due to microbiological cause is tremendous compared to the microbiological control cost. It is imperative to investigate and diagnosis the environmental change of mills for right control of cumbersome microorganisms. Several useful diagnosis tools, including new technology employing OFM(Optical Fouling Monitor) in situ, are illustrated.
The permeation experiments f3r the aqueous dextran solutions of which the molecular weights were distributed between several thousands and million daltons were carried out using the dead-end cell system equipped with sheet membrane to determine the molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) of ultrafiltration membranes. The dextran rejections with respect to molecular weight were obtained by GPC analysis of feed and permeate solutions, then the MWCO was decided as the dextran molecular weight corresponding to the 90% rejection. The MWCO of PBTK membrane manufactured by Millipore was varied between 63,000 and 68,000 daltons as the pressure increased from 0.5 to 2.0 bar. However, the MWCO of PBQK(Millipore) and UE 1812(Saehan) under the above operating pressure increased to 3.5 and 4.3 times, respectively. Also, the MWCO of PBTK increased to 25% as the membrane permeation increased from 10 to 40% of the feed solution.
In this study, the LIDMOD3 was developed to design and evaluate low impact development (LIDMOD). In the same fashion, the LIDMOD3 employs a curve number (NRCS-CN) method to estimate the surface runoff, infiltration and event mean concentration as applicable to pollutant loads which are based on a daily time step. In these terms, the LIDMOD3 can consider a hydrologic soil group for each land use type LID-BMP, and the applied removal efficiency of the surface runoff and pollutant loads by virtue of the stored capacity, which was calculated by analyzing the recorded water balance. As a result of Model development, the LIDMOD3 is based on an Excel spread sheet and consists of 8 sheets of information data, including: General information, Annual precipitation, Land use, Drainage area, LID-BMPs, Cals-cap, Parameters, and the Results. In addition, the LIDMOD3 can estimate the annual hydrology and annual pollutant loads including surface runoff and infiltration, the LID efficiency of the estimated surface runoff for a design rainfall event, and an analysis of the peak flow and time to peak using a unit hydrolograph for pre-development, post-development without LID, and as calculated with LID. As a result of the model application as applied to an apartment, the LIDMOD3 can estimate LID-BMPs considering a well spatical distributed hydroloic soil group as realized on land use and with the LID-BMPs. Essentially, the LIDMOD3 is a screen level and simple model which is easy to use because it is an Excel based model, as are most parameters in the database. This system can be expected to be widely used at the LID site to collect data within various programmable model parameters for the processing of a detail LID model simulation.

The presence of thermal bridges in a building envelope cause additional heat loss which increases the heating energy. Given that a higher building insulation performance is required in these cases, the heat loss via thermal bridges is a high proportion of the total heat energy consumption of a building. For the dry exterior insulation system that uses mullions and transoms to fix insulation and exterior materials such as stone and metal sheet, the occurrence of thermal bridges at mullions and transoms is one of the main reasons for heat loss. In this study, a dry exterior insulation system using the truss insulation frame (TIF) was proposed as an alternative to metal mullions. To evaluate the building envelope performance, structural, air-leakage, water-leakage, fire-resistance, thermal, and condensation risk tests were conducted. In addition, the annual energy consumption associated with heating and cooling was calculated, including the linear thermal transmittance of the thermal bridges. As a result, the dry exterior insulation system using TIF achieved the allowable value for all tests. It was also determined that the annual heating load of a building was reduced by 36.7 % when the TIF dry exterior insulation system was used, relative to the dry exterior insulation system using steel pipes without additional insulations.
Objectives : The objectives of this study are to provide the education of communication skills in the class of theories of Korean medical famous physicians and to survey students' perception of the effect. Methods : The class of theories of Korean medical famous physicians was newly designed and was given to students. The results from the questionnaire survey with second year students at department of Korean medicine were applied to the evaluation of study issues. The scale used for this study was the modified version of 'Beyer-Fetzer's Essential Elements of Communication Skills Assessment Sheet', which was developed by researchers in line with the education of Korean medicine. Results : In six (except for 'opening a conversation') out of seven categories, post-test results were more improved than pretest results. In the category of communication skills (a total of 25 questions), post-test results were higher than pretest results in all items. Among them, 13 items were statistically significant. With regard to the question as to how important the class of communication skills is to raise their professionalism as Korean medicine doctor, post-test result was higher than pretest result. Regarding an appropriate education point of time, there were various points in the entire period of curriculum. The appropriateness of teaching-learning method was positively evaluated. In terms of the content helpful for learning, learner-oriented activities was preferred over teacher-oriented lecturing. Conclusions : The communication skills learned in the class of theories of Korean medical famous physicians were effective. Communications skills should be taught constantly in the entire curriculum in order to raise students' professionalism as Korean medicine doctor. In terms of education method, it is desirable to design a class based on students' various activities, rather than lecturing.

Recently Recently, the incidence of spinal diseases due to poor posture among students and office workers is increasing, and various studies have been conducted to help maintain correct posture. In previous studies, a membrane sensor or a pressure sensor was placed on the seat cushion to see the weight bias, or a sensor that restrained the user was attached to measure the position change. In our previous study, we developed a sensor device which can be easily attached to the body with an adhesive gel sheet and that measures and outputs the user's posture and body position in real time, but it has a limitation in the accuracy of the sensor value. In this study, a study was conducted to improve the performance of the position conversion sensor device and quantitatively evaluate the accuracy of the angle conversion measurement value, and a high accuracy with 2.53% of error rate was confirmed. In future research, it is considered that additional research targeting actual users is needed by diversifying posture correction training contents with multimedia elements added.

Various failure modes occur in the concrete beams reinforced with GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic) under initial condition and repairing patterns. In this study, the failure behaviors of concrete beams restrengthened with GFRP sheet with slightly higher elastic modulus than concrete were investigated. For the tests, concrete beams with 24 MPa were manufactured, and the effects of initial notch, overlapping, end-strip reinforcement, and fiber anchors were analyzed on failure load. The cases of GFRP overlap around notch and the initial notch showed increasing failure loads similar to those of normal restrengthened case since the epoxy of the saturated GFRP sufficiently repaired the notch area. Compared to the control case without restrengthening of GFRP, the concrete with initial notch showed 0.78 of loading ratio and normal restrengthening showed 4.43~5.61 times of increasing ratio of failure loading, where interface-debonding from flexural crack were mainly observed. The most ideal failure behavior, break of GFRP, was observed when end-strip over 1/3 height from bottom and fiber anchor were installed, which showed increasing failure load over 150 % to normal restrengthening.

In recent years, numerous environmental problems associated with the excessive use of fossil fuel are taking place. For an alternative energy resource, the importance of renewable energy and the demands of facilities to generate renewable energy are continuously rising. To satisfy such demands, a large number of photovoltaic energy generation structures are constructed and planned with large scale. However, because these facility zones are mostly constructed on land, some troubles are occurred such as rising of construction cost due to the cost of land use, environmental devastation, etc. To solve such problems, the floating type photovoltaic energy generation system using FRP members have been developed in Korea. FRP members are recently available in civil engineering applications due to many advantages such as high strength, corrosion resistance, light weight, etc. and they are suitable to fabricate the floating structures because of their material properties. In this study, the analytical and experimental investigations to evaluate the structural performance of floating PV generation structure and SMC FRP vertical member which is used to fabricate the structure were conducted. The static and dynamic performances of floating PV generation structure are evaluated through the FE analysis and the experiment, respectively. Moreover, the structural safety evaluation and buckling analysis of SMC FRP vertical compression member are also conducted by the FE analysis, and the structural behavior of SMC FRP member under compression and pullout is investigated by the experiments. From this study, it was found that the structural system composed of pultruded FRP and SMC FRP members are safe enough to resist externally applied loads.
