Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become a crucial tool for evaluating mediastinal masses considering that several lesions that appear indeterminate on computed tomography and radiography can be differentiated on MRI. Using a three-compartment model to localize the mass and employing a basic knowledge of MRI, radiologists can easily diagnose mediastinal masses. Here, we review the use of MRI in evaluating mediastinal masses and present the images of various mediastinal masses categorized using the International Thymic Malignancy Interest Group's three-compartment classification system. These masses include thymic hyperplasia, thymic cyst, pericardial cyst, thymoma, mediastinal hemangioma, lymphoma, mature teratoma, bronchogenic cyst, esophageal duplication cyst, mediastinal thyroid carcinoma originating from ectopic thyroid tissue, mediastinal liposarcoma, mediastinal pancreatic pseudocyst, neurogenic tumor, meningocele, and plasmacytoma.

This paper presents an attempt to develop a visual programming language-based 3D virtual reality authoring tool intended to compose virtual interior space. The rapid development of digital technology and the wide spread of the Intenet have expanded the different uses of virtual reality in a number of applications ranging from interior design to building maintenance. In particular, the construction of cyber spaces based on existing interior spaces is becoming increasingly important. Current research, however, remains at the level of converting 3D models into virtual reality models, despite practitioners' needs for structural space models. Moreover, commercial tools to build virtual reality space have the disadvantage of targeting people who have professional knowledge of computer programs and computer graphics. Accordingly, the 3D virtual reality authoring tool developed in this research - called the VESL system - enables virtual and structural space to be easily composed using intuitive and interactive visual interfaces, which are based on visual programming techniques. The VESL system also provides an XML based semantic description of interior space, to be used to describe interior space information. We anticipate that the virtual reality spaces composed by this system will be of considerable use in the fields of architecture and interior design. Further research issues identified at the end of the research include developing a converter/filter for transforming Internet virtual reality standard language, or VRML, and evaluating the application of the system for practical use.
In the late 1970s, the method of quantitative and scientific space structural analysis based on graph theory was introduced to the process of space design, which arranges design and functional elements, as relying heavily on intuition could produce errors due to unverified experiences and prejudices of the designer. As the method of space analysis is complex and hard to express visually and requires repetitive operations, it was discussed theoretically only. However, with the development of computer performance and graphic in recent years, visualization became possible. But the method of visual structural analysis of space is at the level of two dimensions and it is not easy to get accurate data when it is applied to limited three dimensional space such as an interior space. For the visual structural analysis of space, this study presents 4 indices including visibility volume level, pure visibility connection frequency, effective visibility connection frequency, and path visibility connection frequency. This study also presents space division using three dimensional arrangement rather than the existing vector operation method and raytracing algorithm at the lattice constant. Based on this, an analysis tool for the visible regions of three dimensional space that is capable of evaluating at multiple points by using three dimensional game engine and presentation tool that allows the analyzer to interpret the data effectively is made. It is applied to 2 prototype models by displacing Z axis, and the results are compared with UCL Depthmap to verify the validity of data and evaluate its usefulness as a multidimensional, multi-view space analysis tool.

This study deals with development of an evaluating tool for flow experience and presence to evaluate interactive digital contents. The tool is able to measure the grade of flow and presence by surveying with their factors which are known to affect flow experience and presence. One of reasons for reducing flow experience and presence in 3D digital contents is that the experience in the virtual world is different from user's prerequisite learning in the real life. The recent interactive contents using physical movement of users as an input is possible to provide unsafe situation to users due to the different experience. The suggested flow measurement tool is able to evaluate presence and flow experience of an interactive 3D contents as well as flow and presence factors are possible to use as a general guideline for all stages of producing interactive 3D digital contents.
Wii® balance board (WBB) is a device that can measure and record body sway. This study was conducted to evaluate the reliability of WBB in small sized dog as inexpensive, portable and convenient tool. The center of pressure path length (CPPL) and 95% confidence ellipse area (Area 95) were evaluated with only two plates of WBB. The parameters were evaluated between no load (0 kg) and mass group (0.25-4 kg on each one plate). 23 dogs (2.3-7.3 kg) were evaluated for with hindlimb standing for 10 seconds. The mass group showed a significant value in comparison to the no load during the measurement. And intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) between CPPL and Area 95 revealed very high both mass and dog group. In the evaluation of medial patellar luxation (MPL) as a diagnostic tool, 80 dogs with MPL and 23 non-affected dogs were used. In studies of CPPL and Area 95, significant differences were found between non-affected and MPL groups for 10 and 30 seconds, respectively. The WBB can be used as a valid tool for evaluating hind limb standing balance and can be useful as an objective tool to present clinical results in small sized dog with MPL.

Background: Respiratory troubles have economic impacts in countries where livestock industry is an important segment of the agricultural sector, as well as these problems may cause significant economic losses for bovine producers. Various practical methods are used to assess diseases that affect the bovine respiratory system. Ultrasonography is a noninvasive tool that has been used frequently in diagnosis of various animal diseases. The present study was designed to establish whether thoracic ultrasonography is a diagnostic tool for detection of respiratory troubles in weaned buffalo and cattle calves, as well as to assess its prognostic value in comparison with clinical respiratory scores. Thirty five (15 buffalo and 20 cattle) calves were included. Twelve (6 buffalo and 6 cattle) clinically healthy calves were enrolled as controls. Results: Based on physical examinations, clinical respiratory scores (CRS), ultrasound lung scores (ULS) and postmortem findings, animals were classified into 4 groups as pulmonary emphysema (n = 8), interstitial pulmonary syndrome (n = 7), bronchopneumonia (n = 12), and pleurisy (n = 8). The mean values of CRS and ULS were significantly higher in diseased calves (P < 0.01). In calves with pulmonary emphysema and interstitial syndrome, thoracic ultrasonography revealed numerous comet-tail artifacts, which varied in numbers and imaging features. Furthermore, variable degrees of pulmonary consolidation with alveolograms and bronchograms were noticed in bronchopneumonic calves. In addition, thick irregular or fragmented pleura with pleural effusions and fibrin shreds were imaged in calves with pleurisy. A weak correlation was calculated between CRS and ULS (r = 0.55, P < 0.01). Hematologically, the counts of white blood cells, activities of aspartate aminotransferase and partial tensions of carbon dioxide were significantly increased in all diseased groups. Serum concentrations of total globulins were higher in claves with bronchopneumonia (P < 0.05). The partial tension of oxygen was decreased in all diseased calves (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Thoracic ultrasonography is a diagnostic tool for various lung troubles and assessment the grade and severity of pulmonary diseases, as well as it can be used as a follow-up tool for evaluating the prognosis of respiratory troubles and monitoring the efficacy of therapies.
Purpose: Approximately 30% of children with chronic liver disease (CLD) are malnourished. However, proper assessment of their nutritional status is difficult. The subjective global nutritional assessment (SGNA) is a comprehensive approach that uses nutrition-focused history and examination, followed by grading of malnourishment. We aimed to study the prevalence of malnutrition in children with CLD using the SGNA tool. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study included patients aged <18 years with CLD. Nutritional assessments were recorded using SGNA tool. Conventional anthropometric measurements were performed and corroborated with nutritional status using SGNA tool. Results: A total of 85 children with CLD and mean age of 62 months were enrolled in this study. The prevalence of malnourished children according to SGNA was 34%; 22% were moderately malnourished and 12% were severely malnourished. We found statistically significant differences in anthropometric parameters among the three groups. A moderate degree of agreement was found between SGNA and weight-for-age (W/A) (p=0.020), mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) (p<0.001), and triceps skin-fold thickness (TSF)-for-age (p=0.029). Furthermore, a fair degree of agreement was found between height-for-age (H/A) (p=0.001) and weight-for-height (W/H) (p<0.001). The sensitivity of W/A for detecting malnutrition was 93%, H/A was 90%, MUAC was 86%, and TSF was 88%. The sensitivity was much lower for W/H and body mass index for age (55% for both). Conclusion: In our study, more than one-third of children with CLD were malnourished. Nutritional assessment using SGNA is a reliable method for evaluating nutritional status and is significantly correlated with common anthropometric measurements.

The evaluating framework was designed for not only the cognitive domain of learners' perceptions, learning, behaviors, and outcomes but also the areas of knowledge, competencies, and attitudes about the problem-solving process and results of learners to evaluate the changes of inherent cognitive learning about AI education. The results of the research are meaningful in that the evaluating framework for AI education was developed for the development of individualized evaluation tools according to the context of teaching and learning, and it could be used as a standard in various areas of AI education in the future.
The objective of this study is to demonstrate the suitability of electromagnetic waves for evaluating necking defects in bored piles using electromagnetic waves. Experiments are conducted with small-scaled defective model pile with diameter of 150 mm and length of 270 mm. Two necking defects are generated at the upper and lower positions on two different sides of the model pile, respectively. The other two necking defects are generated at the upper and lower positions on the same side of the model pile. Electrical wires are installed alongside the stainless steel wire of a steel cage to configure a two-conductor transmission line. A time-domain reflectometer is used to generate and defect electromagnetic waves. The experimental results show that electromagnetic waves are reflected at the necking defects and the end of the model pile. In addition, calculated defect locations are almost the same as actual defect locations. This study demonstrates that electromagnetic waves can be effective tool for evaluating necking defects in bored piles.
