The Improvement of Evacuation Performance for Discount-Store in Underground (할인점 지하매장의 피난성능 개선에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to improve the Evacuation Performance o( the I)inc()unto-store in underground that is rapidly new shopping store in Korea. In this paper, The architectural properties of the floor plan and section was reviewed with egress focus, occupant load density of the Discount-store was surveyed and the procedure and method of performance based egress design for this occupancy was analysed with SIMULEX model and calculation method. As a result of modeling, more longer available safe egress time (ASET) is expected than required safe egress time (RSET)in underground discount-store. In order to improve the Evacuation Performance for this type occupancy, egress capacity including escape stair, aisle width, escape door is calculated with based on occupant load density and review of shopping cart's structure and size and maximum escape capacity of the cash counter.

Performance Evaluation of the Stair Joints Constructed with Partial Precast Concrete System (프리캐스트 콘크리트 계단 접합부의 접합방식에 따른 성능평가)

  • The time and cost can be reduced when applying partial precast concrete to the stair system in comparison to the cast-in-place or precast method. Because the performance of staircase which is used for evacuation can be largely different from connection types of precast concrete member, we tried to know structural behavior and performance evaluation according to each type of stair joints by experimental study. In the cast-in-place rigid joint, much reinforcement is needed in the end portion because much stress is concentrated in the middle portion. Also, in the pin joint which is used in the connection point, the maximum stress occurs in the middle point, so not only the amount of re-bar is increased but also the serviceability is largely decreased. The bolt type of semi-rigid joints proposed in this study had been increased strength and serviceability which is similar to the rigid joints. Also, its ductility was shown about 0.7 times in comparison to the rigid type and was about 2.8 times for the pin joint type. According to the classification of joint in Eurocode, it can be considered that it is one of the semi-rigid joints which are in the semi-rigid-full strength, and the structural behavior can be expected by using a model which applied to stiffness value decreased by 40 percent.

  • In order to design and operate successfully the pressure differential system for smoke control which uses difference of pressure between compartments of building, architectural factors affecting the pressure field of building should be examined and the stack effect is one of the important factors. The field experiments on pressure field in two buildings of 21 stories and 31 stories in summer and winter season with regard to on/off condition of the pressure differential system are carried out to evaluate the influence of stack effect to evacuation and smoke management of high-rise building. In winter season when the stack effect increases, as the pressure differential system starts to operate, the pressure in upper stair rises largely due to the combination effect of the air infiltration from lobby to stair and the stack effect.

  • Recently commercial egress softwares are frequently used for the risk assessment. The estimation of evacuation time is an important procedure and the outflow coefficient in a bottleneck becomes the crucial factor for design of emergency planning. This paper compares the outflow coefficient of measurement with those of softwares in the bottlenecks of subway stations where masses of people movement is observed. Stairway and turnstile are the 2 bottleneck points along escape pathway. For the escape simulation it is recommended that 2 different modes be used in the programs for 2 kinds of bottleneck. The results of the comparison makes a big difference among them and some of differences can be reduced by correct design of input data. In conclusion the results of simulation should be examined thoroughly by procedure of comparisons with other results.

A Study on the Character and Walking Velocity of Crowd Going up Stairs (계단에서 올라가는 군집보행의 속도에 관한 조사 및 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The effort of transferring some parts of urban functions to the underground space is growing trend among modem cities because of the limit of horizontal land use, the rise of land value, the diversification of human desire, etc. Thus, the basement of building and the subway station have deepened. It calls our attention to safety about evacuation from the underground space to the ground. Until now, the study about crowding walk in stairs has been progressed, focusing on the crowding walk that is going down the stairs, and there is no study about crowding walk that is going up the stairs. This study measured walking pace by crowd density that is going up the stairs in the subway station stairs making one-way movement of crowd. The actual survey showed that the mathematical relation 'V=0.638-0.0949p' determines going up walking velocity at a gradient of $23^{\circ}$, and the mathematical relation will be 'V=0.597-0.1067p' at a gradient of $30^{\circ}$, when it is converted, based on the average walking velocity of crowd by the slope of the stairs which is recommended by Architectural Institute of Japan.
