  • This study was aimed to investigate the nutritional components such as proximate content, minerals, vitamins, and dietary fiber of Euonymus sieboldiana leaves. The leaf sample used was fresh material produced in April in the Republic of Korea. As a result, the fresh leaf sample contained 10.30% crude carbohydrates, 7.42% crude proteins, 0.69% crude fat, and 1.46% crude ash, including a high amount of potassium (0.73%). The total dietary fiber, insoluble dietary fiber, and soluble dietary fiber content was 8.77%, 7.60%, and 1.17%, respectively. Vitamin C was found to be 44.53 mg% using colorimetric analysis. We regarded E. sieboldiana as a potential health food material because of its abundant nutritional components like potassium, dietary fiber, and vitamin C.

  • The nuclear factor of activated T cells (NFAT) protein induce transcription of cytokine genes required for T-cell activation, including the IL-2 gene. Activation of NFAT normally plays a significant role in inducing immune response. However, excessive activation provokes immunopathological reactions including autoimmunity, transplant rejection and inflammation. Thus, several natural products were screened on the inhibitory activity against the NFAT transcription factor. Among them, Euonymus sieboldiana showed strong inhibitory activity against the NFAT transcription factor without affecting cell viability.

  • Ray cells with perforations are recorded for the first time in the Korean Celastraceae species of Euonymus sieboldiana and Tripterygium regelii and the Oleaceae species of Abeliophyllum distichum, Forsythia ovata, Ligustrum japonicum, and Osmanthus heterophylla, All these anomalous ray cells have simple perforations, and the vessel elements of all these species have simple perforation plates, Thus, in the Korean Celastraceae and Oleaceae, the perforations of ray cells appear to be identical with the types of perforation plates in the vessel elements of the same wood, The diagnostic value of the perforated ray cells is also discussed.

  • A survey of Popju Temple district. was conducted using 70 sample plots of 500$m^2$ size. The classification by TWINSPAN and DCA ordination were applied to the study area in order to classify them into several groups based on woody plants and environmental variables. By both techniques. the plant com-munity were divided into six groups by the altitude and soil moisture. The successional trends of tree species seem to be from Pinus densiflora, Sorbus alnifolia through Quercus serrata to Carpinus laxiflora and from P. densiflora, Fraxinus sieboldiana through Q. mongolica in the canopy layer, and from Lespedeza cyrtobotrya, Rhus trichocarpa, Zanthoxylum schnifolium through Rhododendron mucronulatum, Corylus sieboldiana, Lindera obtusiloba, Magnclia sieboldii to Euonymus sieboldianus in the understory and shrub layer. The species diversity of the plant community in the burnt plot was decreased by the forest fire but the importance values of Quercus species were increased in above plot.

  • This study was excuted to analyze the vegetational community structure of the Hongrudong valley the Mt. Gaya by three kinds of ordination techniques (polar, principal component analysis, reciprocal averaging). Eleven sites were sampled with the clumped method to analyze the vegetation structure. The result suggested that Hongrudong valley forest was divided by Pinus densiflora and Quercus aliena community. The relation between stand scores of ordination and soil pH, humus content, soil moisture had a tendency to increase significantly from P. densiflora to Q. aliena community. RA was the most effective method of this study. RA ordination was showed that successional trends of tree species seem to be from P. densijlora through Q. variabilis to Q. aliena, Carpinus laxiflora in the upper layer and from Lespedeza cyrtobotrva, Rhus spp., Rhododendron schlippenbachii through Fraxinus sieboldiana, Lindera obtusiloba to Euonymus oxyphyllus, Weigela subsessilis, Callicarpa japonica in the middle layer.

  • To investigate the structure of the plant community of the Naejang Temple District in Mt. Naejang National Park, 22 plots were set up by the vegetation physiognomy and vegetation analysis by four kinds of ordination techniques(PO, PCA, RA and DCA) was carried out. Pure and mixed forest community of Quercus variabilis and Q. mongolica were major forest communities and each of them covered 31.27 and 20.77%, respectively. The degree of human disturbance of vegetation 9, 8, 7 and 6 area covered 30.9, 67.0, 0 and 0.02%, respectively. According to stand dynamic analysis by DBH class distribution, the present Pinus densiflora and Quercus communities may be succeeded to Carpinus laxiflora communities. DCA was the most effective method of this study. DCA ordination showed that successional trends of tree species seem to be from P. densiflora through Q. variabilis, Q. aliena, Sorbus alnifolia, Platycarya strobilacea to Carpinus laxiflora, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Zelkova serrata, Cornus controversa in the tree layer, and from Rhododendron mucronulatum, Rh. schlippenbachii, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya, Rhus trichocarpa through Styrax japonica, Daphniphyllum macropodum, Sapium japonicum to Euonymus oxyphyllum, E. sieboldiana, Lindera erythrocarpa in the subtree layer.
