  • In this paper, the equations of the scaled boundary finite element method are derived for non-homogeneous half plane and analyzed numerically In the scaled boundary finite element method, partial differential equations are weaken in the circumferential direction by approximation scheme such as the finite element method, and the radial direction of equations remain in analytical form. The scaled boundary equations of non-homogeneous half plane, its elastic modulus varies as power function, are newly derived by the virtual work theory. It is shown that the governing equation of this problem is the Euler-Cauchy equation, therefore, the logarithm mode used in the half plane problem is not valid in this problem. Two numerical examples are analysed for the verification and the feasibility.

  • The blast damage behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) structures exposed to unexpected extreme loading was investigated. To enhance the accuracy of numerical simulation for blast loading on RC structures with seven blast points, the calculation of blast loads using the Euler-flux-corrected-transport method, the proposed Euler-Lagrange coupling method for fluid-structure interaction, and the concrete dynamic damage constitutive model including the strain rate-dependent strength and failure models was implemented in the ANSYS-AUTODYN solver. In the analysis results, in the case of 20 kg TNT, only the slab member at three blast points showed moderate and light damage. In the case of 100 kg TNT, the slab and girder members at three blast points showed moderate damage, while the slab member at two blast points showed severe damage.

  • The Hurwitz-type Euler zeta function is defined as a deformation of the Hurwitz zeta function: $${\zeta}_E(s,x)={\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}}{\frac{(-1)^n}{(n+x)^s}}$$. In this paper, by using the method of Fourier expansions, we shall evaluate several integrals with integrands involving Hurwitz-type Euler zeta functions ${\zeta}_E(s,x)$. Furthermore, the relations between the values of a class of the Hurwitz-type (or Lerch-type) Euler zeta functions at rational arguments have also been given.

  • Based on the coupled elastic bending deformation features and relationships between the internal force and deformation of pre-twisted Euler beam, the generalized strain, the equivalent constitutive equation and the equilibrium equation of pre-twisted Euler beam are developed. Based on the properties of the dual-antisymmetric matrix, the general solution of pre-twisted Euler beam is obtained. By comparison with ANSYS solution by using straight Beam-188 element based on infinite approach strategy, the results show that the developed method is available for pre-twisted Euler beam and also provide an accuracy displacement interpolation function for the subsequent finite element analysis. The effect of pre-twisted angle on the mechanical property has been investigated.

  • An Euler solver is developed to predict accurate aerodynamic data such as lift coefficient, drag coefficient, and moment coefficient. The conservation law form of the compressible Euler equations are used in the generalized curvilinear coordinates system. The Euler solver uses a finite volume method and the second order Roe's flux difference splitting scheme with min-mod flux limiter to calculate the fluxes accurately. An implicit scheme which includes the boundary conditions is implemented to accelerate the convergence rate. The multi-block grid is integrated into the flow solver for complex geometry. The flowfields are analyzed around NACA 0012 airfoil in the cases of $M_{\infty}=0.75,\;\alpha=2.0\;and\;M_{\infty}=0.80,\;\alpha=1.25$. The numerical results are compared with other numerical results from the literature. The final goal of this research is to prepare a robust and an efficient Navier-Stokes solver eventually.

  • Recently, Alzer and Choi [2] introduced and studied a set of the four linear Euler sums with parameters. These sums are parametric extensions of Flajolet and Salvy's four kinds of linear Euler sums [9]. In this paper, by using the method of residue computations, we will establish two explicit combined formulas involving two parametric linear Euler sums S++p,q (a, b) and S+-p,q (a, b) defined by Alzer and Choi, which can be expressed in terms of a linear combinations of products of trigonometric functions, digamma functions and Hurwitz zeta functions.

  • In this study, preconditioned adjoint equations for the quasi one-dimensional Euler equations are developed, and their computational benefit at all speed is assessed numerically. The preconditioned adjoint equations are derived without any assumptions on the preconditioning matrix. The dissipation for Roe type numerical flux is also suggested to scale the dissipation term properly at low Mach numbers as well as at high Mach numbers. The new preconditioned method is validated against analytical solutions. The convergence characteristics over wide range of Mach numbers is evaluated. Finally, several inverse designs for the nozzle are conducted and the applicability of the method is demonstrated.

  • An adaptive Cartesian grid method having the best elements of structured, unstructured, and Cartesian grids is developed to solve the steady two-dimensional Euler equations. The solver is based on a cell-centered finite-volume method with Roe's flux-difference splitting and implicit point Gauss-seidel time integration method. Calculations of several compressible flows are carried out to show the efficiency of the developed computer code. The results were generally in good agreements with existing data in the literature and the developed code has the good ability to capture important feature of the flows.

  • An inverse method for the subsonic and transonic airfoil design was developed using the Euler equations. Two testcases were performed. One was a verification of the method using the supercritical airfoil of the Korean mid-sized (100 passengers class) transport aircraft. The other was the design of an airfoil showing a good cruising performance (L/D ratio) in the high subsonic flow regime. These testcases demonstrated the efficiency and the robustness of the design method in the present study.

  • This paper presents the calculation of opening characteristics for puffer GCB with the equations of the flow field and the motion of the driving mechanism. To obtain the stroke curve, the motion equation is solved simultaneously with the Euler equations. For a given Piston location, the flow field is solved. The pressure inside the Puffer chamber is then used to calculate the moving velocity and the new position of the piston. The FVFLIC method is employed to solve the axisymmetric Euler equations and the motion equation is solved by the Runge-Kutta method. The method is applied to the puffer GCB model and the stroke curve and the pressure rise in puffer chamber under no load condition are compared with the measured ones.
