합성 항균제를 대체하기 위한 천연물질의 항균 효과 (The Antimicrobial Effects of Natural Aromas for Substitution of Parabens)

  • 화장품 항균제로 사용되는 합성물질인 paraben과 천연물질인 aroma oil의 항균력을 비교하였다. Aroma oil은 pine, rosemary, lemon, eucalyptus와 paraben은 methylparaben, butylparaben을 사용하였으며 각 농도는 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.0wt%으로 하였다. 대상 균주는 그람양성균인 Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC No. 6538), Bacillus subtilis(ATCC No. 6633)와 그람음성균인 Escherichia coli (ATCC No. 8739), Pseudomonas aeruginosa(ATCC No. 9027)을 사용하였으며, 항균력은 disk paper method와 broth dilution method로 측정하였다. Aroma oil과 praben의 항균력은 그람음성균보다 그람양성균에 대하여 우수하게 나타났으며, aroma oil이 paraben보다 높은 항균효과를 보였다. Aroma oil은 eucalyptus, lemon, pine, rosemary 순으로 항균력이 높게 나타났으며, butylparaben이 methylparaben보다 우수하게 나타났다. Rosemary와 pine을 각각 단독으로 사용했을때 보다 3/1의 비율로 혼합하였을 때 항균력이 더욱 우수하게 증가하는 상승효과를 나타내었다.

천연에센셜오일의 Streptococcus mutans에 의한 치석형성 억제 활성을 이용한 구강관리제품 개발 가능성에 대한 융합연구 (Convergence research on the possibility of development of oral care products using the anti-plaque activity of natural essential oils against Streptococcus mutans)

  • 본 논문은 Lavender, Tea tree, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass 4종의 천연에센셜오일의 Streptpccous mutans 에 의한 치석형성억제 효과에 대하여 연구해 보고자 하였다. Streptpccous mutans 에 의한 치석형성 억제 활성 측정결과인 Lavender 에센셜 오일의 MAC (Minium anti-adhesive concentration, 최소부착저지 농도)가 1.0 % 이고 Tea tree 에센셜 오일, Eucaliptus 에센셜 오일, lemongrass 에센셜 오일의 MAC는 0.5 % 로 나타났다. 에센셜오일의 농도를 달리하여 Streptpccous mutans와 혼합한 배양액을 항온조에서 배양한 후 용액의 pH를 측정하여 최소부착 저지농도 이하에서 산의 생성으로 pH가 낮아진 것을 확인할 수 있었고, 이 결과는 에센셜 오일이 Streptpccous mutans 에 의한 산의 생성을 억제하는 효과가 있다는 것이다. 이러한 결과들로부터 천연에센셜오일 중 특히 Tea tree, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass는 치석생성을 억제하는 천연소재로 구강관리 제품개발에 활용할 수 있는 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

정부양곡창고내 유칼립투스 페퍼민트와 타임 오일을 이용한 화랑곡나방과 거짓쌀도둑거저리에 대한 살충 실증실험 (Insecticidal activities of Eucalyptus dives and Thymus vulgaris oils against Plodia interpunctella and Tribolium castaneum in the granary)

  • 본 연구에서는 정부양곡창고내에서 유칼립투스 페퍼민트와 타임에서 추출한 정유성분을 이용한 화랑곡나방과 거짓쌀도둑거저리의 살충 실증실험을 진행하였으며, 정부양곡창고내에서 정유성분을 이용한 저곡해충 방제의 이용 가능성을 확인하였다. 그 결과, 유칼립투스 페퍼민트 정유성분에 의하여는 화랑곡나방 유충은 72시간 내에 100 % 사충율이 나타났으며, 성충은 3시간 내에 100 % 사충율이 나타났다. 타임에서 추출한 정유성분에 의하여는 거짓쌀도둑거저리 유충은 120시간 내에 100 % 사충율을 보였으며, 성충은 120시간 내에 100 % 사충율을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 정부양곡창고에서 화랑곡나방과 거짓쌀도둑거저리를 방제하기 위해서 친환경적이고 안전한 오일성분을 이용하여 정부양곡창고내 저곡해충에 대한 방제 가능성을 보여준다.

Analgesic effects of eucalyptus essential oil in mice

  • Background: The use of aroma oils dates back to at least 3000 B.C., where it was applied to mummify corpses and treat the wounds of soldiers. Since the 1920s, the term "aromatherapy" has been used for fragrance therapy with essential oils. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the essential oil of Eucalyptus (EOE) affects pain pathways in various pain conditions and motor coordination. Methods: Mice were subjected to inhalation or intraperitoneal injection of EOE, and its analgesic effects were assessed by conducting formalin, thermal plantar, and acetic acid tests; the effects of EOE on motor coordination were evaluated using a rotarod test. To determine the analgesic mechanism, 5'-guanidinonaltrindole (${\kappa}$-opioid antagonist, 0.3 mg/kg), naltrindole (${\delta}$-opioid antagonist, 5 mg/kg), glibenclamide (${\delta}$-opioid antagonist, 2 mg/kg), and naloxone (${\mu}$-opioid antagonist, 4, 8, 12 mg/kg) were injected intraperitoneally. Results: EOE showed an analgesic effect against visceral pain caused by acetic acid (EOE, 45 mg/kg); however, no analgesic effect was observed against thermal nociceptive pain. Moreover, it was demonstrated that EOE did not have an effect on motor coordination. In addition, an anti-inflammatory effect was observed during the formalin test. Conclusions: EOE, which is associated with the ${\mu}$-opioid pain pathway, showed potential effects against somatic, inflammatory, and visceral pain and could be a potential therapeutic agent for pain.

화랑곡나방과 거짓쌀도둑거저리의 유충과 성충에 대한 10종 식물 정유의 살충효과 (Insecticidal Activities of 10 Plant Essential Oils against Plodia interpunctella and Tribolium castaneum)

  • 화랑곡나방과 거짓쌀도둑거저리 유충 및 성충에 대한 Artemisia vulgaris, Achillea millefolium, Anethum graveolens, Cimicifuga heracleifolia, Citrus paradisi, Chrysanthemum indicum, Eucalyptus dives, Neroli bigard, Nigella sativa, Ruta graveolens 식물체 정유의 살충활성을 비교하였다. 그 결과 화랑곡나방 및 거짓쌀도둑거저리 유충에서는 N. bigard 및 A. graveolens 정유가 각각 139.11 및 $52.87{\mu}g\;cm^{-3}$의 접촉독성으로 가장 우수한 살충활성을 나타냈으며, 화랑곡나방 및 거짓쌀도둑거저리 성충의 경우 A. millefolium 및 A. graveolens 정유에서 각각 0.12 및 $93.14{\mu}g\;cm^{-3}$으로 훈증독성이 가장 우수한 살충활성을 나타냈다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 N. bigard, A. graveolens A. millefolium 및 A. graveolens 정유가 화랑곡나방과 거짓쌀도둑거저리 유충 및 성충을 방제하기 위한 친환경 방제 법으로 적용 가능성을 보여주었다.

화상 재건을 위한 식피술 공여부의 반흔 관리에 있어 TRPM8 Agonist 제재의 유용성 (Feasibility of TRPM8 Agonist Agent for Management of Skin Graft Donor Site)

  • Purpose: Wound healing and scar management of donor site after skin graft should not be overlooked. Patients continue to complain of dryness, itching sensation. Such discomfort can cause irritation to the patients and lead to delayed healing or secondary infection. Thus, the author predicted Eucalyptus Oil, which acts on Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 8 would be effective in regulating scar by reducing itching sensation in donor site when combining conventional silicone materials. Methods: The study was performed on 30 patients who underwent split thickness skin graft with lateral thigh as donor site between January 2017 and August 2018. First, primary evaluation of fully epithelized donor site scar three weeks after surgery was conducted. Control group (n=15) applied silicone gel (Kelo-cote, USA) solely two times a day. study group (n=15) applied Eucalyptus oil, combined with silicone gel. After 3 months of follow up, donor scar was evaluated using Vancouver scar scale and VAS scores of subjective patient reports regarding pain and itching sensation. Results: It was confirmed that both groups showed stable scar improvement comparing scar quality for 3 months. After 3 months, scar quality in study group showed superiority in pigmentation, pliability and pruritus compared to control group. Conclusion: Application of Eucalyptus Oil combined with conventional silicone gel is favorable to scar management and may give additional benefit of alleviating pruritis symptoms.

식물정유, 길항세균 및 난황유를 이용한 시금치 노균병 방제 (Control of Spinach Downy Mildew Using Essential Oil, Antagonistic Bacteria, Cooking Oil and Egg Yolk Mixture)

  • 본 연구는 친환경적으로 시금치 노균병을 방제하기 위하여 식물정유, 길항미생물 및 난황유의 병발생 억제효과를 검정하여 화학농약 대신에 이용할 수 있는 친환경제제로서의 가능성을 검토하였다. 5종의 식물정유 가운데 노균병 방제효과는 1회 처리구와 1주 간격 2회 처리구 모두 Eucalyptus approximans 오일의 병원균 억제효과가 60% 정도로 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다. 반면에 토양에서 선발된 길항균 세 종류의 시금치 노균병 방제효과는 모두 20% 이하로 식물정유 처리보다 낮게 나타났다. 난황유 0.3%와 0.5%농도에서 1주일간격 2회 처리구에서 병원균 억제율이 각각 84.5%와 91.5%로 억제되어 가장 효과가 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

자원식물의 기능성 정유성분 이용 고찰 (Review of Functional Volatile Component in Essential Oil of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants)

  • The number of natural products obtained from plants has now reached over 100,000 and new chemical compounds are being discovered ever year. Medicinal and Aromatic plants and their extracts have been used for centuries to relieve pain, aid healing, kill bacteria and insects are important as the antifungal and anti-herbivore agents with further compounds being involved in the symbiotic associations. Although their functions in plants have not been fully established, it is Known that some substances have growth regulatory properties while others are involved in pollination and seed dispersal. The complex nature of these chemicals are usually produced in various types of secretory structures which is an important character of a plant family and also influenced and controlled by genetic and ecological factors. Detailed anatomical description of these structures ave relevant to the market value of the plants, the verification of authenticity of a given species and for the detection of substitution or adulteration. Volatile oils are used for their therapeutic action for flavoring of lemon, in perfumery of rose or as starting materials for the synthesis of other compounds of turpentine. For therapeutic purposes they are administered as inhalations of eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, as gargles and mouthwashes of thymol and transdermally many essential oils including those of lavender, etc. With these current trend for using volatile components in essential oil will be increasing in the future in Korea and in the world as well.

Clinical Evaluation of Selected Naturopathic Therapeutic Procedures in Individuals with Low Back-pain

  • Background: The understanding of back-pain as one of the commonest clinical presentations, made the path to the present study. More than three-quarters of the world's population experience back-pain at some time in their lives Purpose: The present study has evaluated the selected Naturopathic therapeutic procedures on individuals with low back-pain. Methods: Thirteen patients were selected for the study and randomly divided into two groups, viz., Group A, Naturopathic group and Group B, Control group. One patient discontinued. Naturopathic group was treated with mud pack, aromatherapy massage with Eucalyptus oil, acupressure, steam, wet trunk pack, exercises, relaxation and breathing exercises. Advice for life style and diet was given for patients of both the groups. The effect of the therapy was assessed subjectively and objectively. Particular scores drawn for Naturopathic group and control group were individually analyzed before and after treatment and the values were compared using standard statistical protocols. Results: Naturopathic intervention revealed 100% relief in both subjective and objective parameters (i.e., 6 out of 14 parameters showed statistically highly significant P < 0.01 results, while 8 showed significant results P < 0.05). Conclusion: Statistically highly significant results of this study point out the successful management of the multi factorial low back-pain with a multi focused Naturopathic treatment approach. Such encouraging results may pave the way for a future study on a large sample in a longer duration incorporating clinical investigations.

초임계추출의 천연물 시트러스계의 항산화효과와 향기성분 연구 (On study antioxidant effect and aroma component of natural citrus by SC-$CO_2$ Extraction)

  • Citrus essential oil were extracted from citron peel of cultivated in Gohong (CCP) using environmentally friendly supercritical carbon dioxide method. Antioxidant activity and aroma composition of the essential oils extracted by the SC-$CO_2$ method were evaluated by comparing with those extracted by organic solvent method. Fatty acid composition, DPPH scavenging, and antioxidant activity of the oils obtained by different extraction condition of SC-$CO_2$ method were investigated and their antioxidant activities were compared with commercially available lavender, eucalyptus and tea tree oils. As the results, linoleic acid was most abundantly found from CCP oil extracted by the SC-$CO_2$ method and cis-11,144-eicosadienoic acids was second abundantly found. Radical scavenging ability of DPPH was 98% when the concentration of CCP oil was 50 mg/mL. This scavenging ability increased with the increase of oil concentration. On the other hand, flavonoids content (84 mg/100g) of the CCP oil extracted by the SC-$CO_2$ method was slightly higher than that (75 mg/100g) by hexane extraction. The results, obtained from CCP oil by GC-MS, indicated that, among 66 components, the content of terpenes was 55.8% and limonene was 27.3%.
