The Influence of Daycare Center Director and Teacher of Christian' Vocation Awareness on Ethical Practice and Happiness (기독교인 어린이집 교원의 소명의식이 윤리실천과 행복감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the relationship among vocation awareness, ethical practice and happiness of daycare center director and teacher of christian, and how the vocation awareness effects the ethical practice and happiness. After a survey from 303 director and teacher of christian daycare center, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were done. The results are as follows. Firstly, vocation awareness, ethical practice and happiness were highly correlated. Second of all, the higher the vocation awareness, especially in purpose/meaning-presence and prosocial-motivation-presence of vocation awareness, the higher the ethical practice. Lastly, the higher the vocation awareness, the higher the happiness. The purpose/meaning-presence and prosocial-motivation-presence of vocation awareness had great influence on happiness.

Differences in Awareness and Ethical Attitudes about Do-Not-Resuscitate among Emergency Departments' Team (심폐소생술 금지에 대한 응급의료종사자간 인식과 윤리적 태도의 차이)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to exam differences in awareness and ethical attitudes associated with Do-Not- Resuscitate (DNR) among emergency department's team. Method: The participants in this study were 402 emergency department's team working in the 41 hospitals. The data was collected by using "awareness measuring tool" by Kang (2003) and "ethical attitudes measuring tool" by Ko (2004) from May 1 to September 15, 2009. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient using SPSS WIN 14.0 program. Results: 74.4% of subjects was responded that they had never been educated about DNR, but 73.9% of subjects was responded that they had experienced DNR in the emergency room. The majority of subjects responded that the patients and their families should make a decision about the DNR. There was a difference in an appropriate time for explanation of DNR among emergency department's team. There was a difference in ethical attitudes associated with Do-Not- Resuscitate among emergency department's team. Conclusion: For a professional and systematic approach to the problem, DNR guideline sufficient to elicit a social consensus is needed.

Paramedical students' ethical values, awareness, and practice toward medical information protection (응급구조학과 대학생들의 윤리적 가치관과 의료정보보호에 대한 인식 및 실천)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the ethical values of paramedics and their awareness and practice of medical information protection protocols. Methods: A survey was conducted involving 300 university students majoring in a four-year paramedical education program at two universities in Daejeon and Chungnam. Ultimately 220 surverys were subjected to analysis. Results: There was a significant difference in students' perception of medical information protection according to the need for education on medical information protection protocol (p=0.022); however, there were no significant differences in the practice of these protocols. The idealism tendency was positively correlated with the awareness of medical information protection (r=.332, p=.000) and the practice of medical information protection (r=.309, p=.001). A tendency toward relativism was significantly associated with the awareness of medical information protection (r=.138, p=.040) and not significantly related to the practice of medical information protection protocols. The tendency toward idealism tended to have a significant positive effect on the awareness of medical information protection protocols (β=.318, t=4.777, p=.000) and the degree of practice (B=.369, t=3.456, p=.001). Conclusion: Appropriate educational programs for medical information protection are needed. These programs should adhere to the characteristics of the department by linking with the training institution.

Impact of Biomedical Ethics Awareness and Ethical Values in Nursing Student on Their Attitudes towards DNR (간호대학생의 생명의료윤리의식과 윤리적 가치관이 심폐소생술금지 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify how nursing students' awareness of biomedical ethics and ethical values affect their attitudes towards a do-not-resuscitate (DNR) order. Methods: This cross-sectional correlation study was conducted with 275 nursing students enrolled at two universities in North Chungcheong Province and North Gyeongsang Province of South Korea. Data were collected in April 2017 using a self-reported questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. Results: The students' attitudes towards DNR were positively correlated with attitudes that seek ethical values but negatively correlated with their biomedical ethics awareness. The explained variance for attitudes towards DNR was 20%, which was significant (F=13.01, P<0.001). Conclusion: These findings suggest that nursing students' biomedical ethics awareness and ethical values were associated with their attitudes towards DNR. Curriculum organization and various educational programs should be developed and applied to help nursing students develop ethical values and awareness of biomedical ethics.

Development and Validation of Ethical Awareness Scale for AI Technology (인공지능기술 윤리성 인식 척도개발 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a scale to measure the ethical awareness of users who accept artificial intelligence technology or service. To this end, the constructs and properties of AI ethics were identified through literature analysis on AI ethics. Reliability and validity were assessed through a preliminary survey(N=273), after conducting an open-type survey to men and women(N=133) in 10s to 70s nationwide, extracting the first questions, and reviewing them by experts. The results of an online survey conducted on men and women(N=500) were refined by confirmatory factor analysis. Finally, an AI technology ethics scale was developed. The AI technology ethics awareness scale was developed with 16 questions in total of 4 factors (transparency, safety, fairness, accountability) so that general awareness of ethics related to AI technology can be measured by detailed factors. In addition, through follow-up research, it will be possible to reveal the relationship with measurement variables in various fields by using the ethical awareness scale of artificial intelligence technology.

Dental Hygienist's Ethical Dilemma (치과위생사의 윤리적 딜레마)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of dental hygienists on ethical dilemma. The subjects in this study were 356 dental hygienists who worked in dental clinics. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed with a SPSSWIN 14.0 program. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. In relation to awareness of ethical principles, 64.9 percent knew the fact that there were ethical principles to abide by, though they weren't aware of the principles in detail. When they were in ethical dilemma, most of them consulted with their colleagues(84.0%). 2. As to the necessity of ethical education, 86.8 percent felt the need for that. Concerning intention of receiving ethical education, however, as many as 41.6 percent didn't yet have any particular intention about that, and 50.0 percent intended to receive that education. 3. As for influential factors for ethical decision making, hospital policies and decision-making process were most influential(3.50), and fear for a possible loss of job exerted the smallest influence on that(2.49). 4. Regarding the cause of ethical dilemma, they fell into an ethical dilemma the most due to their own professional duties(2.56), followed by patients(2.33) and cooperators(2.28). Their overall dilemma score was 2.39.

The Development and Application of PBL based Education Program for Ethical Consumption (PBL을 적용한 윤리적 의류소비교육 프로그램 개발과 적용)

  • This research is to develop ethical clothes consumption education program that adopts PBL which is student centered professor-learning method where the learner actively participates in lessons to recognize problems and solve them. This research also tried to see the changes in the students' ethical clothes consumption awareness and problem solving skills and self-directed learning ability after applying this program to lessons. With total of four study topic, seven ethical clothes consumption education programs were developed, and the actual lesson was conducted in controlled group and experiment group. Summary of this research is as followed: First, ethical clothes consumption education program was developed using PBL. Second, teenagers' ethical clothes consumption awareness increased much more than before the course. As both the control group and the experiment group were proven to have high ethical clothes consumption involvement and awareness, it was possible to confirm there is a need for systematic and continuous consumption education at school. Third, when a post test on changes in problem solving ability and self-directed learning ability after applying PBL based ethical clothes consumption education program was conducted, students' problem solving ability was enhanced and both factors, the awareness and behavior of self-directed learning, showed significant difference.

Influence of Teachers' Ethical Awareness and Teaching Flow on Teacher-Preschooler Interaction (보육교사의 교직윤리의식과 교수몰입이 교사-영유아 상호작용에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of preschool teachers' ethical awareness and teaching flow on the teacher-preschooler interaction based on the participation of 345 preschool teachers in Chungcheongnam-do and Gyeonggi-do. The collected data were analyzed by correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. The results of the study were as follows: First, both teachers' ethical awareness and teaching flow were strongly correlated with the teacher-preschooler interaction, and the correlation between sub-variables was also significant. Second, analysis of the relative strength of teachers' ethical awareness and teaching flow in the explanation of the teacher-preschooler interaction revealed that intrinsic motivation as a sub-variable among teaching flow was the most prominent predictor of the teacher-preschooler interaction, followed by ethics for preschoolers among teachers' ethical awareness as well as specific plans among teaching flow. The findings of this study suggest future directions for teacher education based on newly identified factors affecting teacher-preschooler interactions, desirable teacher-preschooler interactions, and implications for improving childcare quality.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically examine the relationship between the ethical leadership of the top management of a company and the knowledge-sharing and innovative behaviors of the members of the organization in order to present a strategy that can be used to strengthen the innovative behaviors of the members. Also, by examining the moderating effect of the awareness of organizational support among the members. The findings of this study were as follows; First, the ethical leadership of the top management had a significant, positive impact on the innovative behaviors of the members of the organization. Second, the ethical leadership of the top management had a significant positive impact on the knowledge sharing among the members. Third, the sharing of knowledge among the members had a significant positive impact on innovative behaviors. Fourth, in the relationship between the ethical leadership of the top management and the innovative behaviors of the members, the sharing of knowledge among the members had a significant mediating effect. Fifth, the awareness of organizational support had a moderating effect in the relationship between the ethical leadership of the top management and the sharing of knowledge among the members.

Overcoming Ethical Conflicts and Dilemmas in Farm Animal Welfare: Investigation of Correlation between Ethical Awareness Level and Compliance with Animal Welfare-Related Regulations in Korean Layer Farms (축산농장 동물복지의 윤리적 갈등과 딜레마 극복: 국내 산란계 농장에서의 윤리의식 수준에 따른 동물복지 관련법규 준수여부 상관관계 조사)

  • Animal welfare was introduced relatively late to Korea in comparison with Western countries. Nonetheless, the Korean government has continuously improved animal welfare-friendly regulations as policy instruments. Given the current situation, it is predicted that spontaneous settlement of the animal welfare policies will be difficult and may cause conflict in the farm animal industry. To identify and categorize conflicts caused by animal-welfare-related policies in the last five years, we investigated the awareness of animal welfare among Korean hen farms and the level of compliance with the animal welfare regulations. We collected a sample of 53 egg-laying chicken farm operators (e.g., owners or head managers) was collected through the on-site survey (90% confidence level (Z-score: 1.65) and 10.18% tolerance, based on a number of 797 egg-laying farms in 2020). Ethical conflicts on the farms were categorized into three different types according to the hen farm's ethical awareness level: passive, moderate, and active. Additionally, we investigated the correlation between compliance with regulations and ethical consideration. This study confirmed that compliance with animal welfare-related regulations significantly correlated to the level of ethical consideration of farm operators. Interestingly, we also observed that farm operators did not comply with the regulation despite their high level of awareness of animal welfare. This conflict implies contradiction and unresolved ethical dilemmas. Therefore, this study argues that the policies cause conflict in the field despite the certain level of effectiveness on animal welfare regulations.
