  • Ethernet PON(Passive Optical Network)은 최근 들어 활발하게 연구되고 있는 경제적이고 효율적인 가입자망 구조이다. 본 논문에서는 OPNET 시뮬레이션 도구를 사용하여 Ethernet PON 시뮬레이션 모델을 구현하고, 시뮬레이션 한다. OLT(Optical Line Termination)에 연결되는 ONU(Optical Network Unit)의 개수, 트래픽 및 네트워크 파라미터에 대한 ONU의 버퍼 크기(buffer size)를 분석하고, 이 결과로서 실제 네트워크에 적용할 효율적이고 적정한 ONU의 버퍼 크기를 제안한다.

  • In this paper, we develope the simulation model for Ethernet passive optical networks (Ethernet-PON) by using OPNET. Ethernet-PON is an emerging access network technology that provides a low-cost method of deploying optical access lines. The simulator uses a Request/Grant TDMA MAC protocol based on IEEE 802.3ah EFM. It also executes registration, ranging and dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm by exchanging control packets between OLT and ONUs. We have evaluated for success ratio of initial registration process and delay of late registration process. We also have simulated for dynamic TDMA protocol and static TDMA protocol in terms of channel utilization and queueing delay. We expect that this simulator can help to determine various parameters which are considered for designing Ethernet-PON system.

Reliability Analysis of Train Ethernet Backbone (Train Ethernet Backbone(TEB) 구성에 따른 신뢰도 분석)

  • As the usage of the electric power train increases, the importance of the control network between the electric control devices grows. IEC proposed a revision of IEC-61375, a standard of the networking among electric devices within a train, to adopt Ethernet as a backbone of train network. This paper performed the reliability analysis of three configurations of Ethernet-based networking within a electric power train that are recommended in IEC-61375 standard. The analysis results show that MTTF(mean time to failure) of the redundant configuration is 20,086 hours, which is a about 3 times longer than the linear configuration.

  • This paper proposes the ethernet-based in-vehicle networking method for "body" and "multimedia" domains. The ethernet-based in-vehicle networking method should modify the topology and the layer 2 for traffic shaping. In this paper, we simulate the two ring networking systems, the Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) and the proposed system with the shaping by the network simulator 2 and evaluate each performance. In addition, we demonstrate the proposed networking system to exchange two kinds of traffic, i.e., QoS data and best-effort data, on the ring network constituting of three nodes. Finally this paper expects to substitute the ethernet-based in-vehicle network for the MOST in advance.

  • The subscriber access network is cause of the bottleneck phenomenon because equipment and infrastructure were not originally designed for busty high-bandwidth traffic between MAN(Metro Area Network) and LAN(Local Area Network). Whether riding on shorter copper drops or optical fiber, Ethernet is emerging as the future broadband protocol of choice, offering plug and play simplicity, and low cost. EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) combines point-to-multipoint optical infrastructure with low-cost high-bandwidth Ethernet. The future broadband access network will be a combination of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint Ethernet, optimized for transporting IP data, as well as time critical voice and video. EPON is being considered as a novel communications infrastructure for next-generation broadband access network for the convergence of low-cost Ethernet equipment and low-cost fiber infrastructure. But, EPON has a problem with duplex multimedia services. It is the insufficiency of bandwidth for upstream. Because all ONUs use a shared transmission media for upstream. In this paper, we addressed the problem of upstream bandwidth in EPONs. We presented a wavelength division EPON supporting QoS in the differentiated services framework.

  • Aircraft data network (ADN) is a data networking for signal transmission among avionic systems in aircraft, and it mostly has been applied MIL-STD-1553B that guarantees high reliability considering its application environments. However, commercial Ethernet has been widely applied for ADN recently, and its range of applications have increased. Ethernet provides high speed of data transmission, however, it could not guarantee quality of service (QoS) so high as MIL-STD-1553B. In this paper, we propose dynamic routing and priority based data transmission schemes in order to improve the QoS of legacy Ethernet. Our propose schemes can be applied to Ethernet switch, and it is able to manage network traffic efficiently, and reduce the time for data transmission. We analyze the packet transmission time for both legacy and proposed schemes in Ethernet environments using simulation, and we show that our proposed scheme can reduce the time for data transmission compare to legacy spanning tree protocol.

Reliable Ethernet Architecture with Redundancy Scheme for Railway Signaling Systems

  • Recently, vital devices of the railway signaling systems have been computerized in order to ensure safe train operation. Due to this computerization, we have gradually come to need networking interfaces between these devices. Thus it is important that there be reliable communication links in the signaling systems. Network technologies are applied in the real-time industrial control system, and there are numerous studies to be carried out on the computer network technology for vital control systems such as railway signaling systems. For deploying the studies, we consider costs, reliability, safety assurance technique, compatibility, and etc. In this paper, we propose the Ethernet for railway signaling systems and also precisely describe the computer network characteristics of vital railway signaling systems. Then we demonstrate the experimental results of the proposed network algorithm, which is based on switched Ethernet technology with redundancy scheme.

  • This paper presents a design and implementation of 10gigabit ethernet frame multiplexer/demultiplexer. In this paper, we discuss gigabit and 10 gigabit ethernet standard interfaces(GMII/XGMII) and we propose multiple gigabit ethernet frame multiplexing/demultiplexing scheme to handle 10gigabit ethernet frame instead of using 10gigabit network processor. And then 10gigabit ethernet frame MUX/DMUX is designed, verified and implemented using FPGA.

  • In this paper, we described a method to guarantee a real-time communication in the hetegeneous network for the personal robot. The hetegeneous network is composed of many kinds of network like IEEE1394, Ethernet, CAN, Bluetooth, Wireless Lan and so on. real-time data is transfered via those kinds of network. Those network have different characteristics as speed, bandwidth, Priority. we used IEEE1394, Ethernet, CAN to study in this paper. To guarantee a real-time communication, a worst case response time must be scalable. In this environment to guarantee a real-time communication, we get a worst case response time of each network and a end-to-end worst case response time.

  • This paper proposes and analyzes a new media access control (MAC) scheduling algorithm, “Interleaved Polling with Deficit Round Robin (IPDRR)” that supports weighted fairness among ONUs in Ethernet Passive Optical Network (PON). The purpose of the proposed IPDRR algerian is not only to eliminate the unused bandwidth of upstream ONU traffic, but also to provide weighted fair sharing of upstream bandwidth among ONUs in Ethernet PON systems. Simulation results show that the IPDRR improves the utilization of upstream channel by removing the unused bandwidth and provides weighted fairness among ONUs, although the IPACT scheduling is unfair according to traffic characteristics.
