The aim of present study in vitro was to evaluate and compare the effects of different washing times of enamels etched with low phosphoric acid solution which makes unsoluble salts and etched but contaminated with saliva on shear bond strength of an orthodontic adhesive to enamel, and to observe the washing effect on the etched enamel surface by scanning electron microscope. All brackets were bonded with Mono-$Lok2^{TM)}$) on the labial surface of extracted human bicuspids after etching with $20w/w\%\;and\;37w/w$ and phosphoric acid solution for 60seconds and then washing for 0,5,10 and 20seconds respectedly. After etching with $37w/w\%$ phosphoric acid solution and contaminating with saliva for 30seconds and then washing for 0,5,20 and 30seconds and re-etching for 10seconds. After 24hours passed in the $37^{\circ}C$ water bath, the shear bond strengths were measured on Universal Test Machine. The data were evaluated and tested by ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test, and those results were as follows. 1. There was no significant differences between (p>0.05) shear bond strength of bonded brackets with 5, 10, 20seconds washing etched enamel using $37{\%}w/w{\%}$ phosphoric acid solution. 2. The shear bond strength of bonded brackets with $20w/w\%$ phosphoric acid and then washing for 5seconds showed bonded strength durable to occlusal force but its coefficiency score was high and etched surface was not cleaned completely and therefore it was assumed that its clinical application is not applicable. 3. There was no significant differences between (p>0.05) shear bond strengths of bonded brckets with washing for 5seconds etched enamel using $37w/w\%$ phosphoric acid solution and 10,20 seconds washing etched enamel using $20w/w\%$ phosphoric acid solution. 4. The shear bond strength of washing for 5seconds etched enamel which was contaminated with saliva showed sufficient bonded strength durable to occlusal force but its coefficiency score was high and therefore its clinical application was not applicable. 5. After etching, the sample contaminated with saliva showed the sufficient shear bond strength even washing 20seconds without re-etching.

Recently, self-etching adhesive system have been developed and bonding procedures simplified into one or two steps, which are simultaneously applied to both enamel and dentin. These systems are easy to use and have the potential for good clinical success. The purpose of this study is to evaluate in vitro the microleakage on the cementum/dentin and enamel walls in composite resin restoration of Class V cavities, regarding the use of different adhesive systems. 30 human premolars were divided into 3 groups. A standardized Class V preparation was prepared on the buccal and lingual surface of each premolar. The preparation were made parallel to the cementoenamel junctions, with the gingival half of the preparation extending 1mm apical to the cementoenamel junction. After adhesive system was applied to teeth as manufacture's recommendation, hybrid resin composite was filled in bulk into the preparation and light polymerized according to manufacturer's recommendations. Specimen were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 5 days and thermocycled 1000 times ($5^{\circ}C{\pm}2^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}C{\pm}2^{\circ}C)$, then immersed in a 2% methylene blue solution for 12 hours. After sectioning mesio distally through the restorations, the degree of dye penetration was scored under a stereomicroscope at ${\times}\;25$ magnification. The data were analyzed statistically using t-test and one-way ANOVA. The results were as follows: ${\cdot}$ There is no adhesive system which can prevent microleakage perfectly. ${\cdot}$ There is significant difference in microleakage between enamel margin and dentin margin (p<0.0001). ${\cdot}$ In enamel margin, self-etching primer systems did not show any significant difference comparing total-etching system. In denin margin, self-etching primer systems did not show any significant difference comparing one-bottle adhesive system used in combination with total-etching.
The electrostatically actuated test structure was presented to measure the micro mechanical characteristics of micromaterials as thin films forming the microactuators. The test structure was fabricated by the surface micromachining processes and driven by the electrostatic force, In order to measure the fracture toughness, the sharp notch in the test structure was introduced by the etching process. On the basis of the beam bending theory, the elastic modulus was measured by using the microcantilevr beam and the mechanical displacement, curvature and deflection curve under the electrostatic force was evaluated by using the electrostatic structure.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to compare the bonding characteristics of a new self-adhesive resin cement to dentin, which does not require bonding and conditioning procedure of the tooth surface, and conventional resin cement. The effect of phosphoric acid etching prior to application of self-adhesive resin cement on the shear bond strength was also evaluated. Material and methods: Fortyfive non-carious human adult molars extracted within 6 months were embedded in chemically cured acrylic resin. The teeth were ground with a series of SiC-papers ending with 800 grit until the flat dentin surfaces of the teeth were exposed. The teeth were randomly divided into 3 experimental groups. In group 1, self-adhesive resin cement, RelyX Unicem (3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany) was bonded without any conditioning of teeth. In group 2, RelyX Unicem was bonded to teeth after phosphoric acid etching. For group 3, Syntac Primer (Ivoclar Vivadent AG, Schaan, Liechtenstein) was applied to the teeth before Syntac adhesive (Ivoclar Vivadent AG, Schaan, Liechtenstein) and Helibond (Ivoclar Vivadent AG, Schaan, Liechtenstein) followed by conventional resin cement, Variolink II (Ivoclar Vivadent AG, Schaan, Liechtenstein). To make a shear bond strength test model, a plastic tuble (3 mm diameter, 3 mm height) was applied to the dentin surfaces at a right angle and filled it with respective resin cement, and light-polymerized for 40 seconds. All the specimens were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours before test. Universal Testing Machine (Z020, Zwick, Ulm, Germany) at a cross head speed of 1 mm/min was used to evaluate the shear bond strength. The failure sites were inspected under a magnifier and Scanning Electron Microscope. The data was analyzed with One way ANOVA and Scheffe test at ${\alpha}$= 0.05. Results: (1) The shear bond strengths to dentin of RelyX Unicem was not significantly different from those of Variolink II/Syntac. (2) Phosphoric acid etching lowered the shear bond strength of RelyX Unicem significantly. (3) Most of RelyX Unicem and Variolink II showed mixed fractures, while all the specimens of RelyX Unicem with phosphoric acid etching demonstrated adhesive failure between dentin and resin cement. Conclusion: Shear bond strength to dentin of self-adhesive resin cement is not significantly different from conventional resin cement, and phosphoric acid etching decrease the shear bond strength to dentin of self-adhesive resin cement.
Catalytic combustion is one of the suitable methods for micro power source due to high energy density and no flame quenching. Catalyst loading in the micro structured combustion chamber is one of the most important issues in the development of micro catalytic combustors. In this research, to coat catalyst on the chamber wall, two methods were investigated. First, $Al_2O_3$ was selected as a support of Pt and $Pt/Al_2O_3$ was synthesized through the alumina sol-gel procedure. To improve the coating thickness and adhesion between catalyst and substrate, heat resistant and water solvable organic-inorganic hybrid binder was used. Porous silicon was also investigated as a catalyst support for platinum. Through the parametric studies of current density and etching time, fabrication process of $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$ of diameter and about $25{\mu}m$ depth pores was confirmed. Coated substrates were test in the micro channel combustor which was fabricated by the wet etching and machining of SUS 304. Using $Pt/Al_2O_3$ coated substrate and Pt coated porous silicon substrate, conversion rate of fuel was over 95% for $H_2$/Air premixed gas.
This paper presents the fabrication and performance inspection of a peristaltic micropump by flow simulation. The valve-less micropump using the diffuser/nozzle is consists of base plate, mid plate, top plate and connection tubes fur inlet and outlet. In detail, the base plate is composed of two diffuser nozzles and three chambers, the mid plate consists of a glass diaphragm for the volumetric change of the pumping chamber. The inlet and outlet tubes are connected at the top plate and the actuator fur pressing the diaphragm is located beneath the top plate. The micropump is fabricated on the silicon wafer by DRIE (Deep Reactive ion Etching) process. The pumping performances are tested by the pneumatic test rig and compared with the simulated results fur various dimensions of diffuser nozzles. The pumping characteristics of the micropump by the volumetric change at the pumping chamber is modeled and simulated by the commercial software of FLOW-3D. The simulated results shows that reverse flow is the inherent phenomena in the diffuser nozzle type micropump, but it can be reduced at the dual pumping chamber model.
In this paper, we proposed the fabrication process of the stable e-beam evaporation and the patterning of metals layer on the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate. The metal layer was deposited under the various deposition rate, and its effect to the electrical and mechanical properties (e.g.: adhesion-strength of metal layer) was investigated. The influence of surface roughness to the adhesion-strength was also examined via the tape test. Here, we varied the roughness by changing the reactive ion etching (RIE) duration. The electrode patterning was performed through the conventional photolithography and chemical etching process after e-beam deposition of $200{\AA}$ Ti and $1000{\AA}$ Au. As a result, the adhesion strength of metal layer on the PDMS surface was greatly improved by the oxygen plasma treatment. The e-beam evaporation on the PDMS surface is known to create the wavy topography. Here, we found that such wavy patterns do not effect to the electrical and mechanical properties. In conclusion, the metal patterns with minimum $20{\mu}m$ line width was produced well via the our fabrication process, and its electrical conductance was almost similar to the that of metal patterns on the silicon or glass substrates.

Conventionally, profile non-uniformity has been characterized by relying on approximated profile with angle or anisotropy. In this study, a new non-uniformity model for etch profile is presented by applying a discrete wavelet to the image obtained from a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Prediction models for wavelet-transformed data are then constructed using a back-propagation neural network. The proposed method was applied to the data collected from the etching of tungsten material. Additionally, 7 experiments were conducted to obtain test data. Model performance was evaluated in terms of the average prediction accuracy (APA) and the best prediction accuracy (BPA). To take into account randomness in initial weights, two hundred models were generated for a given set of training factors. Behaviors of the APA and BPA were investigated as a function of training factors, including training tolerance, hidden neuron, initial weight distribution, and two slopes for bipolar sig-moid and linear function. For all variations in training factors, the APA was not consistent with the BPA. The prediction accuracy was optimized using three approaches, the best model based approach, the average model based approach and the combined model based approach. Despite the largest APA of the first approach, its BPA was smallest compared to the other two approaches.

A new model of plasma etch process was constructed by using a radial basis function network (RBFN). This technique was applied to an etching of silicon carbide films in a NF$_3$ inductively coupled plasma. Experimental data to train RBFN were systematically collected by means of a 2$^4$ full factorial experiment. Appropriateness of prediction models was tested with test data consisted of 16 experiments not pertaining to the training data. Prediction performance was optimized with variations in three training factors, the number of pattern units, width of radial basis function, and initial weight distribution between the pattern and output layers. The etch responses to model were an etch rate and a surface roughness measured by atomic force microscopy. Optimized models had the root mean-squared errors of 26.1 nm/min and 0.103 nm for the etch rate and surface roughness, respectively. Compared to statistical regression models, RBFN models demonstrated an improvement of more than 20 % and 50 % for the etch rate and surface roughness, respectively. It is therefore expected that RBFN can be effectively used to construct prediction models of plasma processes.
