  • Software effort estimation is one of the most difficult tasks in software development whereas predictability is also of equal importance for strategic management. Accurate prediction of the actual cost that will be incurred in software development can be very beneficial for the strategic management. This study discusses the latest trends in software estimation focusing on analogy-based techniques to show how they have improved the accuracy for software effort estimation. It applies the standard deviation technique to the expected value of analogy-based estimates to improve accuracy. In more than 60 percent cases the applied technique of this study helped in improving the accuracy of software estimation by reducing the Magnitude of Relative Error (MRE). The technique is simple and it calculates the expected value of cost or time and then uses different confidence levels which help in making more accurate commitments to the customers.

  • Tissue optics is a well-established and extensively studied area. In the last decades, Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) has been one of the standard tools for simulation of light propagation in turbid media. The utilization of parallel processing exhibits dramatic increase in the speed of MCS's of photon migration. Some calculations based on MCS can be completed within a few seconds. Since the MCS's have the potential to become a real time calculation method, a dynamic accuracy estimation, which is also known as history by history statistical estimators, is required in the simulation code to automatically terminate the MCS as the results' accuracy achieves a high enough level. In this work, spatial and time-domain GPU-based MCS, adopting the dynamic accuracy estimation, are performed to calculate the light dose/reflectance in homogeneous and heterogeneous tissue media. This dynamic accuracy estimation can effectively derive the statistical error of optical dose/reflectance during the parallel Monte Carlo process.

  • It is generally assumed about trip distribution estimation model that growth factor model's estimation accuracy is higher than that of other models in short-term and that gravity model's estimation accuracy is higher than that of other models in long-term. For validation of such assumptions, this study compares estimation accuracies of each estimation model using 3year(1988, 1992, 2004) O-D tables from Daegu city. Each estimation model's accuracy were compared by mid-size and large-size zone as well as short-term and long-term target years. The results show that the trip distribution estimation model selection by usual assumption is not always right.

  • This paper provides simulation-based results of effect analysis of sample size and sampling periods on accuracy of reliability estimation methods using multiple comparisons with analysis of variance. Sum of squared errors in estimated reliability measures were evaluated through applying seven estimation methods for one-shot systems to simulated quantal-response data. Analysis of variance was implemented to investigate change in these errors according to variations of sample size and sampling periods for each estimation method, and then the effect analysis on accuracy in reliability estimation was performed using multiple comparisons based on sample size and sampling periods. An efficient way to allocate both sample size and sampling periods for reliability estimation tests of one-shot systems is proposed in this paper from the effect analysis results.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of sampling points on accuracy of storage reliability estimation for one-shot systems by assuming a weibull distribution as a storage reliability distribution. Also propose method for determining of sampling points for increase the accuracy of reliability estimation. Methods: Weibull distribution was divided into three sections for confirming the possible to estimate the parameters of the weibull distribution only some section's sample. Generate quantal response data for failure data. And performed parameter estimation with quantal response data. Results: If reduce sample point interval of 1 section, increase the accuracy of reliability estimation although sampling only section 1. Even reduce total number of sampling point, reducing sampling time interval of the 1 zone improve the accuracy of reliability estimation. Conclusion: Method to increase the accuracy of reliability estimation is increasing number of sampling and the sampling points. But apply this method to One-shot system is difficult because test cost of one-shot system is expensive. So propose method of accuracy of storage reliability estimation of one-shot system by adjustment of the sampling point. And by dividing the section it could reduce the total sampling point.

  • Objectives: Children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may have deficits in time perception, as assessed by the time estimation task and the time reproduction task, however its age-related trajectory is not yet determined. Therefore we examined the correlation between accuracy of time perception tasks and age, and the association between accuracy of estimation tasks and reproduction tasks. Methods: Sixty-three patients with ADHD, aged 8 to 18 years tested the tasks for five time durations (2, 4, 12, 45, and 60 seconds). Accuracy of tasks was assumed differences (absolute values) between raw results of tasks and original time durations. Spearman's correlation analysis was performed to determine correlation between accuracy of time perception tasks and age. Multivariate regression was used to determine the association of accuracy of estimation tasks with accuracy of reproduction tasks. Results: Age showed correlation with accuracy of estimation tasks, but not with that of reproduction tasks. We observed that the higher the accuracy in 12, 45, and 60 seconds duration time reproduction, the higher the accuracy in longer seconds duration time estimation. Conclusion: Age was correlated with time estimation accuracy whereas there was no impact on time reproduction accuracy. Association of each of the two time perception tasks, particularly in longer time duration, suggested specific impairments in time perception.

  • Commercialized location estimation System with high accuracy is widely used for various services. However, if the systems aren't completely installed in an indoor, location estimation accuracy tend to be very poor. In this paper, indoor location estimation algorithm to improve the accuracy of object location, by correcting the location information obtained from a system that does not fully install, is proposed. In this paper, UWB-based Ubisense system that provides high position accuracy in an indoor environment was utilized. In conclusion, this paper was able to improve the positioning accuracy, by correcting that information about the location of the measured object in position estimation system.

  • The projection approximation subspace tracking (PAST) is one of the attractive subspace tracking algorithms, because it estimatesthe signal subspace adaptively and continuously. Furthermore, the computational complexity is relatively low. However, the algorithm still has room for improvement in the subspace estimation accuracy. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to improve the subspace estimation accuracy using a normally ordered input vector and a reversely ordered input vector simultaneously.

  • In this paper, the performance of PRA (pel recurdive algorithm) and BMA(block matching algorithm), which are the most well-known motion estimation techniques, is compared and the effects of the motion estimation accuracy on the motion compensated coding are described. Results of computer simulation on the real images indicate that the TSS (three step search), which is one of the BMA,is slightly better than the PRA in terms of the accuracy however, the required bit rate is 6.6-8.2 Kbps higher that of the PRA because the TSS requires a transmission of motion estimation vectors.

  • This paper proposes a hierarchical dual filtering (HDF) algorithm to estimate the spatial region between a Cloud of Things (CoT) gateway and an Internet of Things (IoT) device. The accuracy of the spatial region estimation is important for autonomous CoT clustering. We conduct spatial region estimation using a hidden Markov model (HMM) with a raw Bluetooth received signal strength indicator (RSSI). However, the accuracy of the region estimation using the validation data is only 53.8%. To increase the accuracy of the spatial region estimation, the HDF algorithm removes the high-frequency signals hierarchically, and alters the parameters according to whether the IoT device moves. The accuracy of spatial region estimation using a raw RSSI, Kalman filter, and HDF are compared to evaluate the effectiveness of the HDF algorithm. The success rate and root mean square error (RMSE) of all regions are 0.538, 0.622, and 0.75, and 0.997, 0.812, and 0.5 when raw RSSI, a Kalman filter, and HDF are used, respectively. The HDF algorithm attains the best results in terms of the success rate and RMSE of spatial region estimation using HMM.
