  • The size and location of spaces need to be changed for teaching & learning activities in open education. This study is aimed to investigate how school facilities should be rearranged when the open education is implemented in elementary school. Some considerations such as enlargement of classroom, establishment of open space, and provision of various self-learning spaces are proposed for the rearrangement. It is also recommended that (1) a space for research and conference for teachers, (2) a multi-learning space to be utilized by connecting general and special classrooms, and (3) an open space for exclusive use of one grade or two grades be established.

  • Stable MCF-7-ERE cells, in which pERE-Luc reporter gene has been stably integrated into the genome of the MCF-7 cells, were used to detect the estrogenic activity of various dietary flavonoids in either pure chemical or mixtures. Estradiol (E2) induced luciferase activity in dose dependent manner and this activity was inhibited by tamoxifen (Tam) concomitant treatment. A large series of flavonoids showed estrogenic activities, corresponding to EC5O values between 0.2 and 9 microM and their mixtures didn't show additive or synergistic effects. And we could find some structure and activity relationship. First, 4-methoxylation and catechol structure decreased estrogenic activities. Second, hydroxylation of 3 position reduced estrogenic effect. Third glycosides of flavonoids showed weak estrogenic activity or no activity. Interestingly, when tested at high concentrations, genistein, kaempferol, biochanin A and chrysin elicited luciferase induction higher than that of the maximum induction by estradiol. And these effects of genistein and kaempferol could not be fully inhibited with tamoxifen

  • The imputation of monetary value of women's contribution to the informal economy for inclusion in satellite accounts to the formal System of National Accounts has been attempted along many methods. This is bases on official laborforce statistics and time-use survey. In this statistical system, household work is not an economic activity(or productive labor). Also, the clssification of activities involved in household work is different from that of sampling survey relating evaluation. The measurement of women's unpaid work is one of the important tasks for the improvement of women's status and the establishment of a development policy. To measure unpaid work in the economic terms, we should take following measures; 1) develop satellite or other official accouts to measure unpaid work outside national accounts. 2) conduct a nation-wide time-use survey to measure the unpaid work. 3) develp a proper classificaition of activities for time-use statistics. 4) reexamine the minimum time criterion. 5) determine a proper method of valuing along the law system.

  • Concept and establishment of essential amino acids in animals and human beings rendered immeasurable contributions to animal production and human health. In ruminant animals, however, essential amino acids have never been completely established. The present review proposes a hypothesis that histidine may not be an essential amino acid for normal growing cattle (Japanese black) at least at the growing stage after about 450 kg of body weight on the basis of the experimental results of histidinol dehydrogenase activities in some tissues of the cattle together with hints from which the hypothesis was derived. At the same time, histidinol dehydrogenase activities in liver, kidney and muscle of swine, mouse, fowl and wild duck will be shown and the essentiality of histidine in these animals will be discussed. Finally, the essentiality of histidine for adult human will briefly be discussed.

  • The technology transfer agreements, which transfer technology from industrialized countries to developing countries, are subjected to control and restrictions in many developing countries in order to protect national interests. The licensors endeavour, therefore, to ensure that their activities fit satisfactorily into the technological policies and plans of the host countries, and contribute to the development of national scientific and technological potential, including the establishment and improvement in host countries of their capacity to innovate. Secondly, the licensors adopt in the course of their business activities practices which permit the rapid diffusion of technologies with due regard to the protection of industrial and intellectual property rights. Thirdly, the licensors endeavour to grant licenses for the use of industrial property rights or to otherwise transfer technology on reasonable terms and conditions.

  • In case of auditing of the information system development project applying agile methodology, it is not appropriate to carry out a comprehensive check on the establishment of information system with only the existing check on software. This study considers the characteristics of the agile methodology in terms of Information System Auditing. To improve inspection quality of development project with agile methodology by deriving detailed check items of test activities at each stage, this study proposes a strategy to improve the check on software for the test activities of the supervisory model that is suitable for agile methodology, which emphasizes repetitive work.

  • Mega-Y project is very important for a company to gain a competitive advantage in markets or to achieve drastic change in the internal processes. It stems from the company strategy and annual management goals or key performance measures, and is proceeded by the cross-functional team. This paper presents the success factors and implementation process of the Mega-Y projects. The implementation process is presented in 5 steps, including project selection, cross-functional team building, establishment of the master plan, development and execution of sub-projects, and project completion. A case study on the cost reduction project of aircraft development is presented to help for the practitioners to deploy the implementation process introduced in this paper.

  • This study explores the development processes of organic farmers' groups that have tried to manage farming activities at the regional level. They formed the groups from different reasons and situation each other. The motives to set up the groups differ between them. Some set up for the local farmers movement, others aim to get more income from the group activities. Whatever the motives, they all have been succeeded in the agricultural sector. Many new-born farmer's groups in organic farming sector tend to be regarded them as the models for success. Therefore, it is important to clarify how they have overcome difficult situation that may differ from group to group. This study tries to find and compare the four organic farmers groups with the factors of the historical processes for establishment, the process of business development, and the development of networks.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the present status of environmental education administration in the middle schools of Seoul City and to find problems to be solved environmental education in middle schools. To accomplish these purpose surveys for middle school teachers in Seoul was conducted, and evaluation reports of school environmental education of 1998 were analyzed. The results indicated that both schools and Ministry of Education offered few evaluation standards related to environmental education. Most schools abolished division of environmental affairs because of the reorganization of school system, which focuses on subject and aptitude-based education. In addition, environmental education and related activities were maily the responsibilities of division of science education. The teachers responded that such activities as organization and management of mothers'social service, management of environment day, use of environmental conservation card, and establishment of conservation area were not effective and should be abolished. The conclusion from this study are that environmental education can be effective only when goals of environmental education are included in school evaluation, and the division of environmental affairs should be revived and systematically operated in school.
