  • A Teaching and Operating Expert System (TOES) was designed in order to perform a task effectively which is inaccessible to man. Once an error occurs in the middle of the task operation, the automatic mode is converted into a manual mode. After recovering the error by the manual mode, the manual mode should be converted into the automatic mode. It was necessary to improve the manual mode in order to increase the availability of a man-robot system, a part of the human interface technique. Therefore, the Error Recovery Expert System must be constructed and developed.

  • As a means of human interface, this study designs Developed-ERES/WCS with voice recognition capability and fuzzy set theory. In the advanced teleoperator system, when an error occurs on the automatic mode, the error is recovered after the automatic mode is changed into the manual mode intervened by a human. The purpose of this study is to reduce human work load and to shorten error recovery time during error recovery.

  • Time synchronization between distributed embedded systems in the Real Time Locating System (RTLS) based on Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) is one of the most important factors to consider in system design. Clock jitter error between each system causes many difficulties in maintaining such a time synchronization. In this paper, we implemented a system to synchronize clocks between FPGA based distributed embedded systems using the recovery clock of CDR (clock data recovery) used in high speed serial communication to solve the clock jitter error problem. It is experimentally confirmed that the cumulative time error that occurs when the synchronization is not performed through the synchronization logic using the CDR recovery clock can be completely eliminated.

  • This paper presents an error estimation technique for 2-D crack analysis by an enriched natural element (more exactly, enriched Petrov-Galerkin NEM). A bare solution was approximated by PG-NEM using Laplace interpolation functions. Meanwhile, an accurate quasi-exact solution was obtained by a combined use of enriched PG-NEM and the global patch recovery. The Laplace interpolation functions are enriched with the near-tip singular fields, and the approximate solution obtained by enriched PG-NEM was enhanced by the global patch recovery. The quantitative error amount is measured in terms of the energy norm, and the accuracy (i.e., the effective index) of the proposed method was evaluated using the errors which obtained by FEM using a very fine mesh. The error distribution was investigated by calculating the local element-wise errors, from which it has been found that the relative high errors occurs in the vicinity of crack tip. The differences between the enriched and non-enriched PG-NEMs have been investigated from the effective index, the error distribution, and the convergence rate. From the comparison, it has been justified that the enriched PG-NEM provides much more accurate error information than the non-enriched PG-NEM.

  • The major role of temperature sensors in thermal error compensation system of machine tools is improving machining accuracy by supplying reliable temperature data on the machine structure. This paper presents a new method for fault diagnosis of temperature sensors and recovery of faulted data to establish the reliability of thermal error compensation system. The detection of fault and its location is based on the correlation coefficients among temperature data from the sensors. The multiple linear regression model which is prepared using complete normal data is also used fur the recovery of faulted data. The effectiveness of this method was tested by comparing the computer simulation results and measured data in a CNC machining center.

  • In wireless sensor networks, the importance of transporting data correctly with reliability is increasing gradually along with the need to support communications between the nodes and sink. Data flow from the sink to the nodes requires reliability for control or management that is very sensitive and intolerant of error; however, data flow from the nodes to the sink is relatively tolerant. In this paper, with emphasis on the data flow from the sink to the nodes, we propose a mechanism that considers accurate transport with reliability hop-by-hop. During the process of sending the data, if errors occur or data is missing, the proposed mechanism supports error recovery using a fixed window with selective acknowledgment. In addition, this mechanism supports congestion control depending on the buffer condition. Through the simulation, we show that this mechanism is accurate, reliable, and proper for transport in wireless sensor networks.

  • Video coding standards such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.263, and H.264 transmit a compressed video data using wired/wireless communication line with limited bandwidth. Because highly compressed bit-streams is likely to fragile to error from channel noise, video is damaged by error. There have been many research works on error concealment techniques, which recover transmission errors at decoder side [1, 2]. We designed an error concealment technique for lost motion vectors of H.264 video coding. In this paper, we propose a Kalman filter based motion vector recovery scheme, and experimented with standard video sequences. The experimental results show that our scheme restores original motion vector with more precision of 0.91 - 1.12 on average over conventional H.264 decoding with no error recovery.

  • We analyze the performance of MAC-layer Reed-Solomon error recovery in the cdma2000 1xEV-DO Broadcast and Multicast Services (BCMCSs) environment, with respect to the size of the ECB (Error Control Block) and the air-channel condition, and establish the relationship between ECB size, error recovery capacity and service latency. From this we propose an adaptive error recovery scheme which adjusts the size of the ECB to reflect the environment of the mobile nodes so as to meet the required service quality (target bit error-rate), while reducing the latency of real-time applications. Extensive simulation results show the effectiveness of our approach compared to the current static scheme. Proposed adaptive schemes achieves near optimal solution with respect to service latency while satisfying the required service quality.

  • This paper presents a timing recovery method using Gardner TED (Timing Error Detector) with a Peak Detector using Parabola Peak Interpolation in underwater acoustic communication. This method will have an eye to improve phase converge speed of timing recovery and reduced amount of Tx data. The OQPSK(Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulation technique was considered. The proposed algorithm has faster recovery speed and more accurate than Gardner TED because the sampling values in the proposed algorithm are moved persistingly to maximum or minimum point using parabolic peak interpolation. when simulation performed using Preposed method, it improved BER (Bit Error Rate) performance about 23% And to evaluate the performances of the proposed algorithm the sea trial was performed in the Korean East Sea. And distance of a transmitter-receiver is 3 km each other. As a result, the proposed algorithm outperforms better BER performance about 20% of timing recovery than the Gardner method. Also Proposed method improved converge speed of timing recovery about 1.4 times better than Gardner method.

  • This paper presents robustness propertis of the Kalman Fiter and the associated LQG/LTR method for linear time-invariant output-delayed systems. It is shown that, even for minimum phase plants, the LQG/LTR method can not recover the target loop transfer function. Instead, an upper bound on the recovery error is obtained using an upper bound of the solution of the Kalman filter Riccati equations. Finally, some dual properties between output-delayed systems and input-delayed systems are exploited.
