  • Ship infrared signature is the cause of detection and tracking by infrared sensor and anti-ship missile seeker. Recent warships have been applied the infrared stealth technology to reduce own ship infrared signature and tested to validate own ship infrared signature level. This study describes the two issues. Firstly, we describe the infrared measurement concept and infrared signature level establishment method that have been performed. Secondly, we compare and analyze the error components between the infrared measurement and simulation result.

  • In this paper, a depth-averaged two-dimensional transport model is introduced, and its error bound is presented as the results of sensitivity analysis. The results show that the calculated SS concentration is highly dependant on Manning roughness coefficient, mixing coefficient. fall velocity. and critical shear stress. On the other hand, water level and dispersion coefficient are proved to be less significant in the variation of SS concentration.

  • There are many error sources in GPS signal propagation because the signals do not propagate in vacuum. The GPS observations should be preprocessed before they are used for positioning. The cycle slip and outlier detection algorithms are tested in this study in RINEX level using various linear combinations of the observables. The elbourne-Wubbena (M-W) linear combination has an advantage of long wavelength with low noise, and the geometry-free and ionosphere-free linear combinations are used as well to clean the measurements.

  • This study attempts to identify the most accurate quantitative forecasting technique for measuring the future level of demand for food & beverage in super deluxe hotel in Seoul, which will subsequently lead to determining the optimal level of purchasing food & beverage. This study, in detail, examines the food purchasing system of H hotel, reviews three rigorous univariate time series models and identify the most accurate forecasting technique. The monthly data ranging from January 1990 to December 1997 (96 observations) were used for the empirical analysis and the 1998 data were left for the comparison with the ex post forecast results. In order to measure the accuracy, MAPE, MAD and RMSE were used as criteria. In this study, Box-Jenkins model was turned out to be the most accurate technique for forecasting hotel food & beverage demand among selected models generating 3.8% forecast error in average.

  • Sphere decoding is considered as one of the most promising methods for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) detection. This paper proposes a novel 2-level-search sphere decoding algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, symbol detection is concurrently performed on two levels of the tree search, which helps avoid discarding good candidates at early stages. Simulation results demonstrate the good performance of the proposed algorithm in terms of bit-error-rate (BER).

  • An optimization method has been developed to find the minimum weight design of steel building structures which consist of the commercially available discrete sections. In this study, an emphasis was particularly placed on the practical applicability of optimization algorithm in engineering practice. The structure Is optimized through element optimization under the element level constraints first and then, if there is any violation of structural level constraints, it is adequately compensated by the constraint error correction vector obtained through the sensitivity analysis. A scaling procedure is introduced for the problems of large violated displacement constraint. The oscillation control in the objective function is also discussed. By dividing the available H-sections into two groups based on their section characteristics, much improved relationships between section variables were obtained and used efficiently in searching the optimum section in the section table.

  • Mobile internet access using such devices as PDAs and cellular phones becomes popular as mobile technologies grow. However, the characteristics of small screen devices such as small screen size and pen-based input cause many usability problems. In this study, a human factors experiment was conducted to identify the factors affecting the usability of information search on a PDA. Factors manipulated in the experiment included use of wheel equipment, scroll dimension, and screen orientation. Task completion time, error frequency, and subjective satisfaction level were measured. In addition, various users' behavioral patterns such as scanning routes and mainly used scrolling methods were analyzed. Scroll dimension has a significant effect on task completion time. Scroll equipment and screen orientation affect subjective satisfaction level. The results could be applied to designing information structure of web sites for mobile use by providing vertical scroll and using external scroll equipments.

  • In this paper an adaptive moving method of the search region tracking the motion is proposed. The search region in BMA is determined by the capability of hardware implementation and the degree of motion. But once determined nothing can be changed during coding procedure. In this paper we predict the level of motion of the current block using motion vectors of previous frames without overhead information and change the location of the search region according to the level of the motion predicted. In short the proposed method can be archieved the dsirable effect such that the size of search region gets large when the motion is large. Results of experiments show that prediction efficiency has been improved by using adaptive moving method resulting in reduced prediction error in the blocks with large motion.

  • In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) performance of the fast frequency hopping/M-ary frequency shift keying system using the clipper receiver is analyzed by using the characteristic function (CF) technique in the presence of n=1 band multitone jamming and additive white Gaussian noise environment. The CFs of the clipper receiver outputs are derived as a infinite series representation using Gamma function and Marcum's Q -function. The analytical results are validated with various simulation results. Performance comparisons with linear combining receiver are shown that the BER performance of the clipper receiver is much better than that of the linear combining receiver In addition, as the clipping level approaches to infinity, it is shown that the clipper receiver simply performs a linear combining without clipping and there exists an optimum value of diversity level (the number of hops per symbol) that maximizes the worst case BER performance of the clipper receiver.

  • Nuclear Power Plant consists of about 1.4 million facilities. and the design standards and design requirements for the continuos utilization and safety of facilities are complexly connected with the facilities. When a design change for facilities or design requirements is occurred at the time of construction or operation, there are a lot of facilities, design requirements, and design bases that are affected by the facilities or design bases being changed. The above design changes are so complex that the existing document-bases design change process is time-consuming and may also cause human error. In this study, we developed a design requirement taxonomy that can be applied to the data-centric design bases document that can improve it. To do this, we analyze the design elements from the highest level to the lowest level applied to the nuclear power plant, and classify the design elements according to the characteristics of the design elements.
