The scour phenomenon involves the erosive potential of flowing water and the relative ability of the soil to resist erosion. The scour phenomenon in cohesive soils is much different from that in non-cohesive soils. Granular soils resist erosion by their buoyant weight and the friction between the particles. The soil particles are dislodged individually from the bed under the action of the eroding fluid. Scour in cohesive soils is much slower and more dependent on soil properties than that in non-cohesive soils. Therefore the analysis models for estimating erosion characteristics of cohesive soils should consider not only flowing water but also the relative ability of the soil to resist erosion. In this study, erosion characteristics for the clay-silt mixed soil will be analyzed as a fundamental study for development of bridge scour analysis and design system considering scour resistance capacity of a soil. For this analysis, the relationship between scour characteristics and soil properties was evaluated through scour rate test with Kaolinite samples remolded using various loading and contents of silt.
Chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) has emerged as the planarization technique of choice in both front-end and back-end integrated circuit manufacturing. Conventional CMP process utilize a polyurethane polishing pad and liquid chemical slurry containing abrasive particles. There hale been serious problems in CMP in terms of repeatability and deflects in patterned wafers. Especial1y, dishing and erosion defects increase the resistance because they decrease the interconnection section area, and ultimately reduce the lifetime of the semiconductor. Methods to reduce dishing & erosion have recently been interface hardness of the pad, optimization of the pattern structure as dummy patterns. Dishing & erosion are initially generated an uneven pressure distribution in the materials. These defects are accelerated by free abrasives and chemical etching. Therefore, it is known that dishing & erosion can be reduced by minimizing the abrasive concentration. Minimizing the abrasive concentration by using CeO$_2$is the best solution for reducing dishing & erosion and for removal rate. This paper introduce dishing & erosion generating mechanism and a method fur developing a semi-rigid abrasive pad to minimize dishing & erosion during CMP.
This study presents the results of investigations with the object to determine the resistance to sulfuric acid for some kinds of cements containing 0%-70% of slag powder. The specimen is immersed 5% H$_2$SO$_4$ solution after the 28th days, is measured chemical analysis, XRD, SEM and etc after the immersed 35th days and is measured the erosion depth after the immersed 168th days. The results of experiment are founded out that alumina cement containing slag power was excellent at a point of view for the sulfuric acid resistance and the erosion depth was suitable to the evaluated method of the sulfuric acid resistance in the stead of the evaluated method of weight loss.

In this study, the plasma sprayed $Al_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$ coatings have been investigated for applications of microelectronic components. The plasma sprayed coatings had a well-defined splatted lamellae microstructure, intersplat pores and a higher amount of microcracks within the splats. The plasma sprayed $Y_2O_3$ coating had a relatively lower hardness of 300-400Hv, compared to 650-800Hv for $Al_2O_3$ coating, and would be readily damaged by mechanical attacks such as erosion, wear and friction. For a reactive ion etching against F-containing plasmas, however, the $Y_2O_3$ coating had a much higher resistance than the $Al_2O_3$ coating because of the reduced erosion rate of by-products.
Erosion-corrosion behaviors of Hadfield steel under a neutral aqueous environment with fine SiO2 particles were examined and compared with those of conventional carbon steel. A range of electrochemical experiments (potentiodynamic polarization, linear polarization, and impedance), immersion test, and slurry pot test (i.e., erosion-corrosion test) were performed. Results showed that the Hadfield steel composed of austenitic matrix with (Fe,Mn)-based carbide had lower corrosion potential and higher corrosion current density than carbon steel with a typical ferrite/pearlite structure. In addition, pipe forming increased total corrosion rates (i.e., pure corrosion and erosion-enhanced corrosion rates). Nevertheless, the erosion-corrosion rate of Hadfield steel was much smaller. Morphological observation showed that local damage in the form of a crater by erosion-corrosion was more noticeable in carbon steel. The higher resistance of Hadfield steel to erosion-corrosion was attributed to its lower total erosion rates (i.e., pure erosion and corrosion-enhanced erosion rates) highly depending on surface hardness. This study suggests that Hadfield steel with higher resistances to flowing erosion-corrosion in an aqueous environment can be applied widely to various industrial fields.
The characteristics of cavitation-erosion damage with changes in the amplitude of 5052-O aluminum alloy for ships were investigated in a seawater environment. In the cavitation-erosion experiment, the cavitation environment was created using a vibration-generating device with a piezo-electric effect. The amplitudes of 5 ㎛, 10 ㎛, and 30 ㎛ were created by changing the geometric shape of the cavitation horn. The resistance characteristics of cavitation-erosion damage were evaluated by weight loss and pitting area. The damaged surface was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and 3D optical microscopy. As the amplitude increased, the amount of damage and the area of the damaged surface increased, and the damage was concentrated at the center and edge of the specimen. The pit was created after the initial incubation period with increasing experimental time, and then the pits were merged to grow and propagate into craters, and eventually, the surface was detached and damaged. The cavitation-erosion damage after 30 minutes with amplitude of 10 ㎛ and 30 ㎛ was 1.48 and 2.21 times compared to 5 ㎛, respectively.
Recently, with the rapid development in the industries such as an iron mill and chemical plants, there is enlarged by the use of the piping. Sepecially, the piping connected with a fluid, if it is increase the speed of running fluid, ought to generate cavitation phenomenon with unbalanced pressure. So, the cavitation phenomenon cause serious damage of the piping, because it generate erosion and corrosion in the piping. In this study, the steel pipe piping water (SPPW) and SPPW on weldment were tested by using of cavitation-erosion test apparatus with nozzle and were investigated under the marine environment of liquid. (specific resistance : 25 $Omega$. cm) The main results obtained are as follows : 1) The total weight loss and weight loss rate of affected zone of weldment by corrosion-erosion in the sea water are more increased than that of base metal. 2) The electrode potential by corrosion-erosion in the sea water becomes less noble than that of base metal, and current density is more increased. 3) As time goes by, the total weight loss and weight loss rate by cavitation erosion-corrosion in air-liquid 2 phase flow become more increased then those in only liquid solution. but these values turn to be decreased.

Recently, with the rapid development in the oceanic systems such as the oceanic structures and vessel, there occurs much interest in the impingement erosion-corrosion. In this paper, Cu-metal was tested by using of erosion apparatus with water-jet type and was investigated under the behaviour of impingement erosion-corrosion according to various environmental conditions, and the properties of Cu-metal were evaluated through the measurement by weight loss, weight loss rate, protective efficiency. The results were compared with those obtained using Cu-metal applied to cathodic protection and Cu-alloys added to Zn or Al-metal. As a basis of those results, the best protective efficiencies could be taken as using cathodic protection method and Cu-alloy with Al & Zn material addings, and will be suggested as the fundamental data of the anti-impingement erosion-corrosion on Cu-metal of impeller material for oceanic centrifugal pump.

The main consideration factor to design a magnetron of the sputtering system for TFT-LCD metallization is high sheet resistance (Rs) uniformity which is provided by the high target erosion and high current efficiency. The present study has developed a rectangular magnetron for TFT-LCD to bve considered full target erosion and high film uniformity. After an aluminum-2 at.% and alloy target was installed in a magnetron source and the film was deposited on the glass of 600${\times}$720 mm, the Rs uniformity of the deposited film was measured as functions of the magnet tilt and magnet scanning configuration. And the target erosion profile was observed with the target voltage. When sputtered at 4mtorr and 10kW, the magnet tilt for the high Rs uniformity of 8.38% was 7mm. The plasma voltage at the dwell home and end for full-face target erosion, when scanned the magnetron was 120% compared to the mean voltage of the other area.
