  • The problem of bandwidth allocation and routing in VP based ATM networks was studied. A priori reservation of resources for VP's reduces the statistical multiplexing gain, resulting in increased Call Blocking Probability (CBP). The focus of this study is on how to reduce CBP by the efficient bandwidth allocation and routing algorithms. Equivalent capacity concept was used to calculate the required bandwidth by the call. and the effect of traffic dispersion was explored to achieve more statistical gain. A cost-effective traffic dispersion routing algorithm, CED, was designed. The algorithm finds the optimal number of dispersion paths for a call, where the gain balances the dispersion cost. Simulation study showed that CED could significantly reduce the CBP.

  • This paper presents the implementation of variable structure control system for a linear or nonlinear system using neural networks. The overall control system consists of neural network controller and a reaching mode controller. While the former approximates the equivalent control input on the sliding surface, the latter is used to bring the entire system trajectories toward the sliding surface. No supervised learning procedures are needed and the weights of the neural network are tuned on-line automatically. The neural netowrk-based variable structure control system is applied to a nonlinare unstable inverted pendulum system through computer simulations, and implemented using a microcomputer (80486-50MHz) and applied to the DC servomotor position control system. Simulation and experimental results show the expected approximation sliding property is occurred. The proposed controller is compared with a PID controller and shows better performance than the PID controller in abrupt plant parameter change.

  • This paper presents a design method for an on-line adaptive neural networks based intelligent controller. The proposed neural controller, assuming PID controller is initially presented, learns the equivalent behaviors of the existing PID controller initially and switches to take over the PID control system. Then, it executes on-line adaptation via evaluating its performance and minimizing user defined cost function constantly so that the optimal control can be achieved. The PID controller and the proposed neural controller are investigated and compared in computer simulation.

  • This paper analyzes the effectiveness of social networks in finding jobs and estimates the value of job search network using the Korean Laber and Income Panel Study (KLIPS) dataset and utilizing the Difference-in-Difference Propensity Score Matching (PSM) methodology (Heckman et al., 1997). While the wide use of social networks in the Korean labor market is often perceived as 'nepotism,' this study confirms that social networks, by serving as an effective information transmitter between job search and recruitment, make a significant contribution to improving the adequacy of job matching in the domestic labor market. In order to verify the effectiveness of using social networks for getting jobs, this study looks into the cases of labor turnover using social networks and also not using it. In the aspect of individual satisfaction improvement relating to workplace and job duties, both cases of turnover turn out to experience an increased satisfaction by 2~3 points (on a 100-score scale). Meanwhile, as for the educational and technical adequacy improvement, no positive effects are found in the case of turnover without social networks, whereas the educational and technical adequacy improvement turns out to increase by 2.13 and 2.52 points, respectively, in the case of turnover using social networks. The effect of income increase through turnover using social networks registered 40,074 Korean won per month (as of 2010), which can be considered as the result from the improved educational and technical adequacy. Of all things being considered, the value of job search network per wage worker in the Korean society is estimated to be 18.72 million won in terms of life-cycle wage improvement, and 758.2 scores in terms of the improvement of working life satisfaction. Provided that the cash value of satisfaction score 1 is equivalent to 'n' times 10,000 won, the aggregate value of job search network is estimated to be 18.72+7.582n million won, which means the total amount of costs that a wage worker in the Korean society willingly pays to maintain and manage job networks for lifetime.

  • In this study, we investigate the physical layer secrecy performance of RF energy harvesting (EH) networks over Rayleigh fading channels. The RF-EH system considered here consists of one power transfer station, one source, one destination, and multiple passive eavesdroppers. The source harvests energy from the power transfer station and transmits the information to the destination by using a time switching-based relaying protocol. The eavesdroppers try to extract the transmitted information without an active attack. By using the statistical characteristics of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the exact closed-form expressions of the existence probability of the secrecy capacity and the secrecy outage probability are derived. Further, we analyze the secrecy performance of the system with respect to various system parameters, such as the location of the system elements and the number of eavesdroppers. Finally, the equivalent Monte Carlo simulation results are provided to confirm the correctness of our calculations.

  • Supervised learnmg 01 recurrent neural networks (RNNs) is discussed. First, we review the present state of art, featuring their major properties in contrast of those of the multilayer neural networks. Then, we concisely describe one of the most practical learning algorithms, i.e. backpropagation through time. Revising the basic formulation of the learning algorithms, we derive a general formula to solve for the exact solution(s) of the whole connection weights w of RNNs. On this basis we introduce a novel interpretation of the supervised learning. Namely, we define a multidimensional Euclidean space, by assigning the cost function E(w) and every component of w to each coordinate axis. Since E=E(w) turns up as a hyper surface in this space, we refer to the surface as learning surface. We see that topological features of the learning surface are valleys and hills. Finally, after explicating that the numerical procedures of learning are equivalent to descending slopes of the learning surface along the steepest gradient, we show that a minimal value of E(w) is the intersection of curved valleys.

  • This paper studies a multi-antenna wireless relay network in the presence of a jammer. In this network, the source node transmits signals to the destination node through a multi-antenna relay node which adopts the amplify-and-forward scheme, and the jammer attempts to inject additive signals on all antennas of the relay node. With the linear beamforming scheme at the relay node, this network can be modeled as an equivalent Gaussian arbitrarily varying channel (GAVC). Based on this observation, we deduce the mathematical closed-forms of the capacities for two special cases and the suboptimal achievable rate for the general case, respectively. To reduce complexity, we further propose an optimal structure of the beamforming matrix. In addition, we present a second order cone programming (SOCP)-based algorithm to efficiently compute the optimal beamforming matrix so as to maximize the transmission rate between the source and the destination when the perfect channel state information (CSI) is available. Our numerical simulations show significant improvements of our propose scheme over other baseline ones.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to restore corrupted black and white facial images to color. Previous studies have shown that when coloring damaged black and white photographs, such as old ID photographs, the area around the damaged area is often incorrectly colored. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a method of restoring the damaged area of input photo first and then performing colorization based on the result. The proposed method consists of two steps: BEGAN (Boundary Equivalent Generative Adversarial Networks) model based restoration and CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) based coloring. Our method uses the BEGAN model, which enables a clearer and higher resolution image restoration than the existing methods using the DCGAN (Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks) model for image restoration, and performs colorization based on the restored black and white image. Finally, we confirmed that the experimental results of various types of facial images and masks can show realistic color restoration results in many cases compared with the previous studies.

  • This paper shows the impedance profile of PEEC(Partial Equivalent Electrical Circuit) PDN(Power Distribution Networks) including core and I/O circuit. Through the simulated results, we find that the core power noise having connection with I/O power is affected by I/O switching. Also, using designed $74{\times}5inch$ DLL(Delay Locked Loop) test board, we analyzed the effect of power noise on operation region of chip. Jitter of a DLL measure for frequency of $50{\sim}400MHz$ and compared with impedance obtained result of simulation. Jitter of a DLL are increased near about frequency of 100MHz. It is reason that the resonant peak of PDNs has an impedance of more the 1ohm on 100MHz. we present the impedance profile of a chip and board for the decoupling capacitor reduced the target impedance. Therefore, power supply network design should be considered not only decoupling capacitors but also core switching current and I/O switching current.
