A Varian Portal Dosimetry system was compared to an isocentrically mounted MapCHECK 2 diode array for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) QA. A Varian TrueBeam STx with an aS-1000 digital imaging panel was used to acquire VMAT QA images for 13 plans using four photon energies (6, 8, 10 and 15 MV). The EPID-based QA images were compared to the Portal Dose Image Prediction calculated in the Varian Eclipse treatment planning system (TPS). An isocentrically mounted Sun Nuclear MapCHECK 2 diode array with 5 cm water-equivalent buildup was also used for the VMAT QAs and the measurements were compared to a composite dose plane from the Eclipse TPS. A ${\gamma}$ test was implemented in the Sun Nuclear Patient software with 10% threshold and absolute comparison at 1%/1 mm (dose difference/distance-to-agreement), 2%/2 mm, and 3%/3 mm criteria for both QA methods. The two-tailed paired Student's t-test was employed to analyze the statistical significance at 95% confidence level. The average ${\gamma}$ passing rates were greater than 95% at 3%/3 mm using both methods for all four energies. The differences in the average passing rates between the two methods were within 1.7% and 1.6% of each other when analyzed at 2%/2 mm and 3%/3 mm, respectively. The EPID passing rates were somewhat better than the MapCHECK 2 when analyzed at 1%/1 mm; the difference was lower for 8 MV and 10 MV. However, the differences were not statistically significant for all criteria and energies (p-values >0.05). The EPID-based QA showed large off-axis over-response and dependence of ${\gamma}$ passing rate on energy, while the MapCHECK 2 was susceptible to the MLC tongue-and-groove effect. The two fluence-based QA techniques can be an alternative tool of VMAT QA to each other, if the limitations of each QA method (mechanical sag, detector response, and detector alignment) are carefully considered.

A new experimental system of base-isolated structures is proposed. There are two kinds of dampers usually used in the base-isolated buildings, one is a viscous-type damper and the other is an elastic-plastic hysteretic-type damper. The base-isolated structure with a viscous damper and that with an elastic-plastic hysteretic damper are compared in this paper. The viscous damper is modeled by a mini piston and the elastic-plastic hysteretic damper is modeled by a low yield-point steel. The capacity of both dampers is determined so that the dissipated energies are equivalent at a specified deformation. When the capacity of both dampers is determined according to this criterion, it is shown that the response of the base-isolated structure with the elastic-plastic hysteretic damper is larger than that with the viscous damper. This characteristic is demonstrated through the comparison of the bound of the aspect ratio. It is shown that the bound of aspect ratio for the base-isolated structure with the elastic-plastic hysteretic damper is generally smaller than that with the viscous damper. When the base-isolated structure is subjected to long-duration input, the mechanical property of the elastic-plastic hysteretic damper deteriorates and the response of the base-isolated structure including that damper becomes larger than that with the viscous damper. The effect of this change of material properties on the response of the base-isolated structure is also investigated.
This paper aimed to analyse dose sensitivity to the controllable parameters of in-door radon $(^{222}Rn)$ and its decay products(Rn-D) by applying the input-output linear system theory. Physical behaviors of $^{222}Rn$ & Rn-D were analyzed in terms of $^{222}Rn$ gas generation, -migation and - infiltration to indoor environments, and the performance output-function(i.e. mean dose equivalent to Tracho-Bronchial(TB) lung region was assessed to the following ranges of the controllable parameters; a) the ventilation rate constant $({\lambda}_v)$ : $0{\sun}500[h^{-1}]$. b) the attachment rate constant$({\lambda}_a)$ : 0-500 $[h^{-1}]$. c) deposition rate constant $({\lambda}{_{d}^{u}})$: 0-50$[h^{-1}]$. A linear input-output model was reconstructed from the original models in literatures, as follows, which was modified into the matrices consisting of 111 nodal equations. a) indoor ${222}Rn$ & Rn-D Behaviour: jacobi- Porstendorfer- Bruno model. b) lung dosimerty : Jacobi-Eisfeld model. Some of the major findings, which identify the effectiveness of this model, were as follows. a) ${\lambda}_v$ is most effective, dominant controllable parameters in dose reduction, if mechanical ventilation is applied. b) ${\lambda}_v$, depending on the air particle-concentration, reduces the dose somewhat within ${\lambda}_v$<1 $h^{-1}R range. However, the dose increases conversely, ${\lambda}_v$>1 $h^{-1}R range range. c) ${\lambda}{_{d}^{4}}$ reduces the dose linearly as ${\lambda}_v$ dose. Such dose(z-axis) sentivities are shown with three-dimensional plots whoes x,y-axes are combined 2out the 3 parameter${\lambda}_v{\lambda}_s,\;{\lambda}_d^s$.
This work aims at characterizing silicon grains and its compacts. In order to remove iron silicon grains were washed with 5N hydrochloride at 60-7$0^{\circ}C$ for 170 hrs, and then followed the chemical analysis by atomic absorption spectrophotometer X-ray diffraction analysis SEM observation and specific surface area determination by B. E. T. Mixtures of graded silicon particles with two or three different sizes were made into packings by mechanical vibration. The mixtures were used to make compacts with 10 mm in diameter and 70mm in length by isostatically pressing at 1, 208 kg/$cm^2$ (20 kpsi) and 4, 255kg/$cm^2$ (60 kpsi) respectively. Bulk densities of packings and compacts were measured. A slip made of magnesium nitrate solution and fine silicon particles was spray-dried and then decomposed at 30$0^{\circ}C$ for the purpose of coating the uniform layer of magnesium oxide on the surface of particles. The results obtained are as follows: (1) About two thirds of iron content could be removed from silicon by washing silicon powders with hydrochloride. (2) Uniform layer of magnesium oxide on the surface of silicon could be prepared by spray-drying suspension and by decomposing it. (3) B. E. T. specific surface area of fine silicon particles was 2, 826.753$m^3$/kg. (4) In the binary system with two sizes of 40-53$\mu\textrm{m}$ particles and <10$\mu\textrm{m}$ particles the maximum bulk density of packing was 55% of theoretical value and that of compacts made at the pressure of 4, 255 kg./$cm^2$ (60 kpsi) was 73% of theoretical value. (5) In the ternary system with three sizes the maximum bulk density of packing was 1.43 g/$cm^3$and that of compacts was 1.80g/$cm^3$which is equivalent to 77.6% of theoretical value. The composition of the closest compact was consisted of 50% of 40-53$\mu\textrm{m}$ particles 20% of 10-30$\mu\textrm{m}$ particles and 30% of <10$\mu\textrm{m}$ parti-cles.

Catalytic gasification of mandarin waste residue was carried out using direct and indirect catalyst-contact methods for the first time. In the indirect method, non-catalytic reaction in a reactor was followed by catalytic upgrading of vapor product in another reactor. Two different catalysts, $Ni/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ and $Ni/CeO_2-ZrO_2$, were employed. $CeO_2-ZrO_2$ support was prepared using hydrothermal synthesis in supercritical water. The catalysts were characterized by $H_2$-temperature programmed reduction and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analyses. Under the condition of equivalent ratio (ER) = 0, the indirect catalyst-contact method led to a higher gas yield than the direct method. Under ER = 0.2, the yield of biogas obtained over $Ni/CeO_2-ZrO_2$ was higher than that obtained over $Ni/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. Also, the coke formation of $Ni/CeO_2-ZrO_2$ was lower than that of $Ni/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. Such results were attributed to the higher reducibility and better lattice oxygen mobility of $Ni/CeO_2-ZrO_2$, which were advantageous for partial oxidation reaction.

This paper proposes the development of a low frequency electronic hammer drive system that is used to prevent scaling or clogging in the hopper process. The electro-mechanical hammering driving method involves the generation of vibration and impact energy. The operation principles of the electromagnetic hammer were considered by parallel/series spring coefficient analysis and the amount of kinetic energy generated was calculated from the product of the equivalent spring constant, which is coupled with the E core and the gap of between the E core and I core. In addition, the Pulsation Driving algorithm was applied to the proposed electromagnetic hammer to obtain the maximizing kinetic energy. This algorithm was then implemented by a logical AND operation process and micro-controller (atmega128) built in functions with a timer interrupt and PWM generation function. The driving circuit of the electromagnetic hammer was designed using the H-bridge type IGBT circuit. The experimental test was performed by usefulness of the developed electromagnetic hammer systems with the acceleration measurement method. The experimental result showed that the proposed system has good kinetic energy generation performance and can be applied to the hopper process.
The characteristics of forced vibration by an external excitation force having a frequency were analyzed according to the amplitude and frequency of the excitation force. To obtain displacement, velocity, and acceleration, numerical analysis was performed to obtain the frequency response, and in particular, each FRF(Frequency Response Function) was analyzed to reveal the location of the system natural frequency and excitation frequency in the frequency domain. In the vibration model caused by external excitation, the natural frequency and distribution of the surrounding excitation mode in displacement, velocity and acceleration FRF. The FRF was also shown in the power spectrum and FRF of real and imaginary parts. The external excitation force was approximated with the excitation force of a sine wave by giving the amplitude and frequency, the mode generated by this excitation force could be distinguished. After numerical analysis by changing the equivalent mass, damping and stiffness, the forced vibration response characteristics by external excitation force were systematically analyzed.
Syngas is widely produced by incomplete combustion of coal, water vapor, and air (oxygen) in a high-temperature/high-pressure gasifier through a coal-gasification process for power generation. In this study, a simulation syngas which was mainly composed of $H_2$, CO, $CO_2$, and $N_2$ was fueled with diesel. A modified single cylinder compression ignition (CI) engine is equipped with intake port syngas supply system and mechanical diesel direct injection system for dual fuel combustion. Combustion and emission characteristics of the engine were investigated by applying various syngas composition ratios and compression ratios. Diesel fuel injection timing was optimized to increase indicated thermal efficiency (ITE) at the engine speed 1,800 rpm and part load net indicated mean effective pressure ($IMEP_{net}$) 2 to 5 bar. ITE of the engine increased with the $H_2$ concentration, compression ratio and engine load. With 45% of $H_2$ concentration, compression ratio 17.1 and $IMEP_{net}$ 5 bar, ITE of 41.5% was achieved, which is equivalent to that of only diesel fuel operation.

Experimental study has been performed in order to investigate the behavior of RC beams strengthened with externally unbonded post-tensioned CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) strips using embedded or stud-type plate anchorages. Total 10 small-scaled specimens were manufactured with the different post-tensioning level and types of mechanical anchorage as a main test parameter. A control specimen and specimens with simply bonded CFRP strips were included to compare the structural performances of each system. From the test results, it was observed that the specimens strengthened with simply bonded CFRP strips showed debonding failure below 50% of CFRP tensile strength due to premature debonding. On the other hand, all the specimens strengthened with post- tensioned unbonded CFRP strips reached the rupture strength of the CFRP strip. Also, it was observed that the specimens with stud-type anchorage have equivalent strengthening performance compared with embedded-type anchorage.

In a reciprocating compressor, the piston and connecting rod are important parts. Excess mechanical stress on these parts may cause damage, and broken parts are expensive and difficult to replace. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the mechanical stress affecting durability and longevity. The main purpose of this study was to identify locations of maximum stress on pistons and connecting rods. Based on dynamic calculation of the working process of a specific air compressor, an analysis of piston and connecting rod performance has been completed. A three-dimensional model for the air compressor's pistons and connecting rods was built separately, and FEM analysis of these components was carried out using a numerical method. The pistons were loaded by pressure which was changed according to crankshaft angle without thermal boundary conditions. The simulation results were used to predict and estimate stress concentration as well as the value of this stress on pistons and connecting rods. The maximum equivalent stress calculated are over 190 MPa on pistons and 123 MPa on connecting rods at crank angle $135^{\circ}$ and $225^{\circ}$ but these are under tensile yield strength. Besides, the calculated safety factors of connecting rods and pistons is higher than 1. Moreover, the results obtained can be used to provide manufacturers with references to optimize the design of pistons and connecting rods for reciprocating compressors.
