  • This paper concerns a SCARA robot with the flexible forearm linked to the rigid upper arm. The equations of motion are derived by the Lagrangian mechanics. For controller design, the perturbation approach is taken to separate the original equations of motion into linear equations describing small perturbed motions and nonlinear equations describing purely rigid motion of the robot. To effect the desired payload motion, open loop control inputs are determined based on the inverse dynamics of the latter. In order to reduce the positional error during maneuver, an active vibration suppression is done. To this end, a feedback control is designed for robustness against disturbance on the basis of the linear equations and the LQR theory modified to have a prescribed degree of stability. The proposed control scheme shows satisfactory performances in experiments as well as in numerical simulations.

  • Developed in these two series of paper is a complex dynamic model representing the motion of aircraft on the ground and a computer program for numerical simulation. The first part of paper presents the theoretical derivation of equations of motion of the landing gear system based on the physical principle. Developed model is 'structured' in the sense that the undercarriage system is regarded as an assembly of strut, tire, and wheel, where each component is modeled by a separate module. These modules are linked with two external modules-the aircraft and the runway characteristics-to carry out dynamic analysis and numerical simulation of the aircraft motion on the ground. Three sets of coordinate system associated with strut, wheel/tire and runway are defined, and external loads to each component and response characteristics are examined. Lagrangian formulation is used to derive the undercarriage equations of motion relative to the moving aircraft, and the resultant forces and moments from the undercarriage are transformed to aircraft body axes.

  • COMS(Communication, Oceanography, and Meteorology Satellite) is the first Korean multi-purpose satellite which is planned to be deployed at the altitude of geosynchronous orbit above the Korean peninsular. Noting that COMS is composed of the main BUS structure, two deployable solar panels, one yoke, five reactions wheels, COMS is treated as a collection of 9 bodies and its nonlinear equations of motion are obtained using the multi-body dynamics approach. Also, a computer program is developed to analyze the COMS motion during the various mission phase. Quite often, the equations of motion have to be derived repeatedly to reflect the fact that the spacecraft dynamics change as its configuration, and therefore its degree of freedom varies. However, the equations of motion and simulation software presented in this paper are general enough to represent the COMS dynamics of various configurations with a minimum change in input files. There is no need to derive the equations of motion repeatedly. To show the capability of the simulation program, the spacecraft motion during the solar array partial and full deployment has been simulated and the results are summarized in this paper.

  • The equations of motion of a submarine pipeline with the internal flowing fluid and subject to hydrodynamic loadings are derived by using Hamilton's principle. Coupling between the bending and the longitudinal extension due to axial load and thermal expansion are considered. Coupling between the twisting and extension are not considered. The equations of motion are well agreed with the results which are derived by the vector method.

  • The motion of journal in a bearing is considered separately as rotation and translation, and then the equations of motion are derived. The bearing load capacities for these motions are calculated from the lubrication theory. The numeric integration of the equations of motion gives various journal orbit depending on force cycles and bearing parameters.

  • In this paper, a recursive formulation for generating the equations of motion of spatial mechanical systems is presented. The rigid bodies are replaced by a dynamically equivalent constrained system of particles which avoids introducing any rotational coordinates. For the open-chain system, the equations of motion are generated recursively along the serial chains using the concepts of linear and angular momenta Closed-chain systems are transformed to open-chain systems by cutting suitable kinematic joints and introducing cut-joint constraints. The formulation is used to carry out the dynamic analysis of multi-link five-point suspension. The results of the simulation demonstrate the generality and simplicity of the proposed dynamic formulation.

  • Spectral element method (SEM) is introduced for the fully coupled structural dynamic problems, In this paper, the beam with passive constrained layered damping (PCLD) treatments is considered as a representative problems. The beam consists of a viscoelastic layer that is sandwiched between the base beam structure and an elastic layer, The fully coupled equations of motion for a PCLD beam are derived, The equations of motion are derived first by using Hamilton's principle, From this equations of motion, the spectral element is formulated for the vibration analysis by use of the SEM, As an illustrative example, a cantilevered beam is considered. It is shown that, as the thickness of VEM layer vanishes, the results become a simple layer beam's that.

  • This paper is concerned with the application of perturbation method to the dynamic analysis of floating flexible body. In dealing with the dynamics of free-floating body, the rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations are analyzed separately. However, the rigid-body motions cause vibrations and elastic vibrations also affect rigid-body motions in turn, which indicates that the rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations are coupled in nature. The resulting equations of motion are hybrid and nonlinear. We can discretize the equations of motion by means of admissible functions but still we have to cope with nonlinear equations. In the previous paper, we proposed the use of perturbation method to the coupled equations of motion and derived zero-order and first-order equations of motion. The derivation process was lengthy and tedious. Hence, in this paper, we propose a new approach to the same problem by applying the perturbation method to the Lagrange's equations, thus providing a systematic approach to the addressed problem. Theoretical derivations show the efficacy of the proposed method.
