  • In this paper, we propose the transmit power controlled adaptive modulated OFDM with frequency symbol spreading and equalization(TPC-AMS/FSS-OFDM) system. In the transmitter of the TPC-AMS/FSS-OFDM, each SP transformed signal is spread by orthogonal spreading codes and combined, so the detected signals obtain the same SINR(signal interference to noise ration) for each frequency symbol spreading block. In this case, we can assign the same modulation level and transmit power for each frequency symbol spreading block. Thus, the proposed system provides the increased throughput performance with reducing the total transmit power, FBI and MLI.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of pilot symbol assisted channel estimation and equalization schemes for OFDM systems over frequency-selective time-varying channels and propose methods to improve the system performance. In the least square(LS) and linear minimum mean square error(MMSE) channel estimation, time domain windowing is introduced for banding the frequency domain channel matrix. The linear MMSE and decision feedback equalization schemes are employed with the pilot symbols for channel estimation taken into account in the equalization process. To reduce computational complexity, the band LU matrix factorization algorithm is introduced in solving the linear systems involved in the equalization, and the performances are compared with the known previous results by computer simulations. When time domain windowing is employed in the decision feedback equalization, the matrix related with the decision feedback process is shown to be unhanded and the resultant performance degradation is analyzed.

  • For the last decade, recurrent neural networks (RNNs) have been commonly applied to communications channel equalization. The major problems of gradient-based learning techniques, employed to train recurrent neural networks are slow convergence rates and long training sequences. In high-speed communications system, short training symbols and fast convergence speed are essentially required. In this paper, the derivative-free Kalman filter, so called the unscented Kalman filter (UKF), for training a fully connected RNN is presented in a state-space formulation of the system. The main features of the proposed recurrent neural equalizer are fast convergence speed and good performance using relatively short training symbols without the derivative computation. Through experiments of nonlinear channel equalization, the performance of the RNN with a derivative-free Kalman filter is evaluated.

  • In this paper, an adaptive neuro-fuzzy filter using the conditional fuzzy c-means(CFCM) methods is proposed. Usualy, the number of fuzzy rules exponentially increases by applying the grid partitioning of the input space, in conventional adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS) approaches. In order to solve this problem, CFCM method is adopted to render the clusters which represent the given input and output data. Parameter identification is performed by hybrid learning using back-propagation algorithm and total least square(TLS) method. Finally, we applied the proposed method to the nonlinear channel equalization problem and obtained a better performance than previous works.

  • Single carrier block transmission with frequency domain equalization(SC-FDE) has been shown to be a promising candidate in ultra-wideband(UWB) communications. In this paper, we analyze the performance of SC-FDE over UWB communications with channel estimation error. The probability density functions of the frequency domain minimum mean-squared error(MMSE) equalizer taps are derived in closed form. The error probabilities of single carrier block transmission with frequency domain MMSE equalization under imperfect channel estimation are presented and evaluated numerically. Compared with the simulation results, our semi-analytical analysis yields fairly accurate bit error rate performance, thus validating the use of the Gaussian approximation method in the performance analysis of the SC-FDE system with channel estimation error.

  • FBMC/OQAM(Filterbank multicarrier on offset-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) system is a multicarrier modulation which is not need to use cyclic prefix(CP). The CP of OFDM/QAM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing on Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) system decreases data transmission rate. However, SER(symbol error rate) performance of FBMC/OQAM system is worse than OFDM/QAM system with frequency 1-tap equalization scheme in the frequency selective channel. In this paper, an iterative channel estimation and equalization scheme is performed in a frequency oversampling domain about each sub-channel of FBMC/OQAM system and SER performance using computer simulation is shown. Using the proposed scheme, the SER performance approaches to that of OFDM/QAM system in a frequency selective channel.

  • A new decision-feedback equalization technique for a filter bank-based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) data transmission system operating in a frequency selective multipath fading channel is presented in this paper. At the cost of relatively increased computational complexity in comparison to the conventional OFDM systems, the proposed system achieves a better performance in terms of bit error rates. The simulation results confirm the superiority and robustness of our method, particularly, in the low SNR channel environment.

  • WiBro(Wireless Broadband Internet) is the standard of high-speed portable internet based on OFDMA/TDD (Orthogonal frequency division multiple access / Time division duplexing) techniques, and the subset of consolidated version of IEEE802.16e Wireless MAN standard. In this paper, we propose performance improvements of WiBro system using the 64QAM SOFM(Self-Organizing Feature Maps)prefiltering. Proposed method used the prefiltering SOFM neural network blind equalization in the Broadband 64 QAM WiBro system receiver. The prefiltering SOFM neural network constellates 64QAM that is transmitter data shape and the blind equalization removes ICI(Inter Carrier Interference). To verificate the proposed method usability, the MSE and the BER are simulated. The simulation results shown that is improved the performances of the proposed WiBro system using the 64QAM SOFM Prefiltering than the existing WiBro system.

  • This paper is concerned with the CR-CMA (Coordinate Reduction-Constant Modulus Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm using the coordinate reduction in order to improve the convergence characteristic and residual intersymbol interference which are used as the performance index for an adaptive equalizer. The equalizer is used to reduce the distortion caused by the intersymbol interference on the wireless and the wired band-limited channel that connect the transmitting system and receiving system. The CMA is widely known as the representative algorithm for equalization. In order to transmitting the mass information with a high speed through the channels, a fast convergence speed in the equalizer performance that is able to minimize overhead needed for equalization is acquired. In this paper, we introduce the new cost function to reduce the constellation of received signal at the input stage of a equalizer. It reduce the error at the steady equalization state. By the computer simulation, we confirmed that the proposed CR-CMA algorithm has the faster convergence speed and the smaller residual intersymbole interference than the conventional CMA.

  • This paper relates with the VSS-MMA (Variable Step Size-Multiple Modulus Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm which is possible to improving the equalization performance by use the nonlinear fuction of error signal in the MMA adaptive equalization algorithm that are used for the minimization of the intersymbol interference due to the distortion which occurs in the time dispersive channel for the transmission of QAM signal in the system.. In the conventional MMA, we obtains the tap coefficient of adaptive equalizer using the fixed step size, but in the VSS-MMA, we obtains the tap coefficient of adaptive equalizer using the variable step size based on a nonlinear function of error signal. By adapting the variable step size, it was confirmed that the improved equalization performance were obtained by computer simulation. For this, the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion, MSE and SER were used in the performace index.
