Sensor networks have been used in many applications such as smart home, smart factory, etc. based on sensor data. Sensor networks can change system requirements and architectures depending on their application areas. Currently, sensor network application cases in ocean environments are very rare because the ocean environments have much difficult accessibility more poor conditions, higher wave heights, more frogs, much heavier salinity, etc., compared with ground environments. In this paper, we propose the requirements, architecture and design of a sensor network system for the littoral sea cage culture monitoring and we also introduce its operation results through the development. The developed system based on our research provides users with functionalities to extract, monitor, and manage underwater environmental conditions suitable to littoral sea cage culturing of fishes.
Very decisive progress was made in advancing fundamental POL-IN-SAR theory and algorithm development during the past decade. This was accomplished with the aid of airborne & shuttle platforms supporting single -to-multi-band multi-modal POL-SAR and also some POL-IN-SAR sensor systems, which will be compared and assessed with the aim of establishing the hitherto not completed but required missions such as tomographic and holographic imaging. Because the operation of airborne test-beds is extremely expensive, aircraft platforms are not suited for routine monitoring missions which is better accomplished with the use drones or UAVs. Such unmanned aerial vehicles were developed for defense applications, however lacking the sophistic ation of implementing advanced forefront POL-IN-SAR technology. This shortcoming will be thoroughly scrutinized resulting in the finding that we do now need to develop most rapidly POL-IN-SAR drone-platform technology especially for environmental stress-change monitoring with a great variance of applications beginning with flood, bush/forest-fire to tectonic-stress (earth-quake to volcanic eruptions) for real-short-time hazard mitigation. However, for routine global monitoring purposes of the terrestrial covers neither airborne sensor implementation - aircraft and/or drones - are sufficient; and there -fore multi-modal and multi-band space-borne POL-IN-SAR space-shuttle and satellite sensor technology needs to be further advanced at a much more rapid phase. The existing ENVISAT with the forthcoming ALOSPALSAR, RADARSAT-2, and the TERRASAT will be compared, demonstrating that at this phase of development the fully polarimetric and polarimetric-interferometric modes of operation must be viewed and treated as preliminary algorithm verification support modes and at this phase of development are still not to be viewed as routine modes.

The large amount of smoke produced near Lake Baikal was transported to Northeast Asia with high AOT (Aerosol Optical Thickness) as seen in satellite images. Aerosol retrieval using a separation technique was applied to MODIS (Moderate Imaging Spectroradiometer) and SeaWiFS (Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor) data observed during 14-22 May 2003. Large AOT, 2.0~5.0 was observed on 20 May 2003 over Korea due to the influence of the long range transport of smoke aerosol plume from the Russian fires, resulting in high PM10 concentration was observed at the surface.
The workplace environment monitoring system based on IP-USN proposed in this study measures and analyzes workplace environment information so as to provide services to provide better work environment and prevent occupational accidents caused by poor, shabby labor environment. This study presents the procedures to design and develop a system that monitors noise, humidity, vibration, temperature, and sensors installed in the workplace and sounds alarm when workers enter dangerous areas or are exposed to hazards. The author actually installed the IP-USN workplace environment monitoring system in a small workplace and confirmed its effectiveness.

In construction operation, the temporary structure is used to support designed facilities or to provide work spaces for construction activities. Since the structure is used only during the construction operation, the operation may be given insufficient attention. The contractor is likely to try to save cost on the material and labor cost. This contractor's behavior frequently leads to construction accidents. In order to prevent accidents from the failure, the operation should be carefully monitored for identifying the effect of dynamics in the surrounding site area. Otherwise, any unexpected adversary effect could result in a very costly construction failure. This study presents the feasibility of the ubiquitous sensor network (USN) technology in collecting construction data during the construction operation of earth retaining walls. The study is based on the result at the Construction System Integration Laboratory (CSIL) at the Pusan National University. A USN-based system has been developed for monitoring the behavior of the temporary structure of earth retaining walls. The data collected from the sensors were used to understand the behavior of the temporary structure. The result of this study will be used in increasing the safety during the construction operation of retaining walls.
The paper presents a model to calculate reinforcement strain using measured crack width in members under applied tension, flexure, and/or shear stress. Crack mapping using a new type of distributed coaxial cable sensors for health monitoring of large-scale civil engineering infrastructure was recently proposed and developed by the authors. This paper shows the results and performance of such sensors mounted on near surface of two flexural beams and a large scale reinforced concrete box girder that was subjected to cyclic combined shear and torsion. The main objectives of this health monitoring study was to correlate the sensor's response to strain in the member, and show that magnitude of the signal's reflection coefficient is related to increases in applied load, repeated cycles, cracking, and reinforcement yielding. The effect of multiple adjacent cracks, and signal loss was also investigated. The results shown in this paper are an important step in using the sensors for crack mapping and determining reinforcement strain for in-situ structures.

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is consisted of lots of tiny sensor nodes with limited processing power and computing resources. Thus, the most critical and fundamental element of WSN technology is sensor node, which gathers environmental information and transmits it to the user application systems. Due to the technological advancement, sensor nodes are become smaller and more intelligent, hence, expand their application area. Specifically, implantable wireless sensor node technology, to monitor and treat disease by implanting tiny sensor nodes into human body or livestock, shows further directions of WSN. In this paper, we have designed an implantable wireless sensor node to monitor livestock body temperature in real time. We also discussed on the additional considerations to implement real time bio-monitoring systems.

It is important to collect reliable measured data for proper bridge health monitoring. However, in reality incomplete and unreliable data may be acquired due to sensor problems and environmental effects. In case of sensor malfunction, parts of measured data are missing and thus health monitoring cannot be carried out reliably. Due to environmental effects such as temperature variation, dynamic characteristics of natural frequencies may change as if the structure is damaged. The paper proposes a systematic procedure of data processing and data analysis for reliable structural health monitoring. Also, it applies the Mahalanobis distance as a health index computed statistically using revised data. The proposed procedure has been examined using numerically simulated data from a truss structure and then applied to a set of field data measured from Seohae cable-stayed bridge.

The piezoelectric paint sensor is a paint type sensor comprising of an epoxy and piezoelectric powder, which is the main component of a piezoelectric material. This sensor can be easily attached to any type of structure as compared to other sensors because it is viable to directly apply it on structures, as in the case with a typical paint. In this study, the capability of piezoelectric paint sensor for impact detection was evaluated. In Particular, the applications of the piezoelectric paint sensor for railroad vehicles were considered. There have been various cases reported about the damages caused by flying gravel to the under-cover of the railroad vehicle during operation. In order to prevent this, real-time monitoring of the large under-cover surface of the railroad vehicle is unavoidable. Under the assumption of vehicle application, sensor sensitivities were measured after multiple and prolonged exposure to thermal cycle environment $-20{\sim}60^{\circ}C$). Sensitivity evaluation of paint sensor under environmental conditions was conducted in an aluminum specimen. In results, despite the small variations in sensitivity, we could confirm the applicability of this paint sensor for impact detection even after a severe environmental exposure test.
Special applications designed for smart phone, so called "Apps" are rapidly emerging as unique and effective sources of environmental monitoring tools. Using the advantages of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), this paper propose an application that provides Indoor Gas Monitoring System. In this paper, use four wireless gas sensor modules to acquire sensors data wirelessly coupled with the advantages of existing portable smart device based on Android platform to display the real-time data from the sensor modules. Additionally, this paper adapts a simple gas classification algorithm to inform in-door Gas for users real-time based.
