  • In this study, the resource efficiency and future metal resource requirement in photovoltaic (PV) production system were evaluated by using material balance data and life cycle assesment (LCA) method. As a result, in the resource efficiency of ferrous and non-ferrous metal, lead and tin had higher resource efficiency than other materials in all PV systems (SC-Si, MC-Si, CI(G)S, CdTe). In the resource efficiency of rare metals, gallium and rhenium in silicon system and rhenium and rhodium in thin-film system ranked as the first and second high resource efficiency. In case of rare earth metal, gadolinium and samarium took higher resource efficiency. The results of the future metal resource requirement in PV systems showed that 2,545,670 ton of aluminium, 92,069 ton of zinc, 22,044 ton of copper, 1,695 ton of tin and 31 ton of nickel will be needed by 2030 in South Korea, except resource recycling supplement.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between pro-environmental consumption consciousness and resource saving behavior of university students. This research has been conducted in 2005 through a written questionnaire with the students of a university in Seoul. After a preliminary research, the main research bas been executed in number of 616 copies. The date were analyzed by statistical methods such as frequencies, precentiles, means, the standard deviations, Crobach's a coefficient, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS statistics program. The major findings of this study were as follows. The pro-environmental consumption consciousness of the university students is the most important factor of doing resource saving behavior. The university students are the group that is going to take responsibility for a national economy and future society. Therefore, it is very important to educate them for establishing the rational consciousness of consumption in order to improve their consumption behavior and skills, because the consciousness formed in this period leads to the propensity to consume when they become adults.

  • This study refers to the composting of DDM Environmental Resource Center, which is operating abnormally in the food waste public-resource facilities that are operating nationwide, in accordance with the initial operating conditions. Similar process cases were investigated to examine issues concerning unusual composting facilities in DDM environmental resource centers and to analyse the causes of the issues. In addition, several improvement measures and alternatives for converting abnormal driving facilities into normal driving facilities may be proposed, and major abnormal driver provisions that are highlighted as issues during field application may be resolved.

  • A characteristic of a region's environmental resources is the competitiveness of local agricultural products. This study explores methods of making locally produced agricultural products appealing to consumers. We looked at ways to appeal to consumers by using the image of environment resource and environment-agriculture product image congruence. The relationships of two dimensions of environmental image, perceived quality and purchase intention, are examined. From the results of the study, both the image of environment resource and environment-agriculture product image congruence have a positive effect on purchasing local agricultural products through perceived quality. This study tried to ascertain which of the two dimensions of the environmental image factor is more effective in terms of consumer appeal for local agricultural products. As a result, both the image of environment resource and environment-agricultural product image congruence are found to have a positive effect on the purchase intention of consumers through perceived quality. By comparing the paths of the two dimensions it is found that the method of appealing to consumers by using the environment-agriculture product image congruence is more effective. The results of this study present an effective method of making locally produced agricultural products appealing to consumers and suggest an effective strategic direction for selling local agricultural products.

  • At the end of November 2010, livestock infected with foot and mouth disease (FMD) were buried, increasing concern about secondary pollution of drinking water and groundwater with odor. Hence, measures to reduce pollution of drinking water and groundwater are needed. In this study, based on livestock type and soil texture, five pilot-scale burial sites were monitored for the past three years from Feb 2012 to 2015. Leachate from the site was analyzed for 90 compounds. A detailed investigation has been completed, looking into organic matter decomposition characteristics of the buried bodies, relevant trace elements thereof, and in particular metabolite concentration changes such as the degree of decomposition of a carcass. From the results, no detectable heavy metals, including cadmium and arsenic, were measured. Among animal types, the rate of cattle decomposition is faster than swine decomposition, and the decomposition of the bodies were performed in sequence from sand, clay loam, sandy loam.

  • Solid waste disposal and management is a critical problem in Nigeria. Annually, a huge quantity of municipal solid waste is generated in Aba. Municipal solid waste disposal in Aba poses severe challenge to environmental safety, public health and welfare of citizens. The situation is made worse by the indiscriminate dumping of refuse at roadsides, streets, waterways and empty lands. The impact of this waste management practice in Aba is environmental deterioration. Efforts to improve waste management in Aba have not recorded significant success. This paper therefore aims to highlight the challenges facing the waste management sector in Aba and proffer solutions on how to improve the sector.

  • In this paper, we present a nonrenewable resource model including environmental pollution stock as a state variable to analyze the dynamic structure of environmental tax. Based on the optimality conditions of our model, we showed that the optimal time path of the shadow cost for environmental pollution stock is the same as that of the costate variable for environmental pollution stock. We did this by applying the theorem, Continuous Dependence on Initial Conditions (Coddington and Levinston, 1985, pp. 22~27), to the optimal control problem. Thus, this result provides a theoretical basis to determine the magnitude of environmental tax to be imposed over time. In addition, we also identified that the costate variable for environmental pollution stock is solely due to the disutility effect.

  • This paper starts with a model of monopolistic competition and endogenous growth, and it adds pollution as an input to production. Then I adopt environmental quality as a renewable resource used in production. I show that increasing returns due to specialization of clean activities as inputs can help lead to sustainable growth with no harm to environmental quality. I also compare and evaluate alternative policy combinations (i.e. taxes +subsidies) that correct two distortions from pollution and monopolistic competition. Finally, I find that, if the productivity of environment in final good production is not sufficiently enough, the number of clean goods tends to increase with more environmental concerns.

  • Substantial growth in the economy and extensive use of natural resources has become a major issue in the modern world. Organizations have started to worry about the environment and are beginning to invest in and practice green strategies. Companies should be responsible for the environment and use sustainable methods to run their businesses. The main purpose of this study is to explore the conceptual approach to Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) practices and Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) in the hospitality industry. The theoretical framework of GHRM practices such as green recruitment, green selection, green training and development, green performance appraisal, green reward and compensation, and corporate environmental responsibility have been comprehensively studied for this purpose. Green Human Resource Management in the hospitality sector is a less studied and rarely implemented phenomenon. The integration of GHRM and CER along with green competitive advantage and green supply chain management in hospitality is new concept in hospitality industry. Study suggests that Corporate environmental responsibility (CER) and Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) have a significant role in the hospitality industry. However, for sustainable development of tourism and hospitality, this concept should be capitalized with necessary research and development.
