Wandering As a Goal-Seeking Behavior: Examining Wanderers' Negotiation With the Physical Environment

  • Wandering behavior is a serious problem among the elderly in nursing homes, yet it has received relatively little study by those interested in gerontology. The research that has been done has generally regarded wandering behavior as an aimless, directionless movement. Only a few studies have addressed the problem after first assuming that wanderers have a goal to their movement, and fewer still have explored the role of the physical environment on the wanderer's behavior. None have combined the two approaches. In this paper, the physical environment will be looked at for support of the theory of wandering as a goal seeking behavior. In a pilot study using behavior maps, the movements of wanderers and non-wanderers are analyzed and compared for the amount of visual access and exposure their locations contain. While the behavioral implications of these two measurements are considered, the limitations of the results are also discussed, so that their relationship to the cause of wandering behavior may be better understood. By implying that wandering is not a totally aimless but purposeful behavior at least in the subconscious level, constructive design implications can be suggested that would make wandering a more pleasant experience for the wanderer and increase the ease of the nursing home staffs management of the problem.

한국 실내디자인 분야의 교육현황 분석 - 4년제 대학교의 교과과정을 중심으로 - (The Analysis of the Educational Conditions of Interior Design in Korea - Focused on the Curriculum of 4 year Universities)

  • Now that 15 years have passed since its introduction to 4 year college in Korea and we have 51 majors in the field of Intoner design established at 47 universities as of 2003, we are in the position to seek the improvement of its educational qualify. With a view to provide data for the setup of proper educational purpose, it has classified their divisions(departments) according to their major names and belonged colleges of the universities and considered their geographical distributions, groupings of curriculum, their framing and features of a standard curriculum. 1)Divisions of the universities where the major of interior design belongs are divided into three categories of design division (design 8t arts, arts), home economics division (home economics, natural science) and architectural division. For the development of the major, universities to which circumstances permit are recommended to establish an independent college of interior design following the . cases in the US. 2) Geographical preponderance of interior design major on Seoul and Gyeongsang Province is desired to be improved. 3) Curriculum of interior design, which is classified into introduction, history of interior design, theory of interior design, design of interior space, digital technology, design elements of inner space, technology of interior design, behavior of environmental psychology, design management and other subjects, was made into a table by divisions. To sum up, curriculum of interior design concentrates on basic design theory throughout all divisions. In connection with the selection of division by high school-graduates or their parents, design division is recommended for those who desire to major in design elements and design management, home economics division for those who desire to major in space design and behavior of environmental psychology and architectural division for those who desire to major in Interior space design, interior design technology and regulations. 4) This research can contribute to the settlement of desirable curriculum for the interior design education, thus upgrading the education level of the major in Korea.

How Effective Is Toothbrush Education through Environmental Changes in Elementary School Children

  • Background: Nowadays, dental health problems in Indonesia are still quite high. It is one of which influenced by low public awareness of the importance of maintaining the health of teeth and mouth that can be measured by toothbrushing behavior. Based on the results of RISKESDAS 2018, only 2.8 percent of the population has a proper toothbrushing behavior. Behavior tends to form at age 6 to 12 years. At this age, children begin to develop habits that tend to settle until adulthood, including toothbrushing behavior. Social cognitive theory is a theory of behavioral change that explains that behavioral changes are influenced by the environment, personal, behavior where these three factors influence each other. This study aims to identify changes in the dental behavior of second grades students before and after the joint toothbrushing at school for 21 days. Methods: A pre-experimental study-design was conducted on elementary school by pre-post treatment method where there are 2 classes that get intervention and 2 other classes as control. A joint toothbrush is performed every morning before the school activities begin. Before and after the joint toothbrushing, all classes are given questionnaires to see if there are any changes in behavior seen through knowledge, attitudes, and practice. Results: Respondent group showed increasement on their knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors towards toothbrushing. In contrast, the control groups showed no significant differences in the 3 factors. Conclusion: In this study the education of toothbrushing through environmental changes is quite effective in elementary school children. Insights into the benefits of this program and refinements of optimally targeted intervention, including longitudinal studies are needed to improve the results.

대학생의 개인 심리 특성이 안전행동에 미치는 영향 탐색 (An Exploratory Study of the Individual Characteristics Influencing the Safety Behavior of University Students)

  • As a range of accidents happen frequently in our society due to safety insensitivity, researches on individual psychological characteristics related to safety behavior and on safety education are increasing. However, safety behavior research that targets university students as potential employees remains rare. Therefore, this research investigates individual characteristics and psychological factors that affect safety behaviors of university students. Research participants were 131 university students (80 males, 51 females) from the Gyeonggi-do and Chungnam areas. Psychological characteristics (self-regulation, cognitive failure, conscientiousness, and emotional stability) were included as variables that may predict university students' safety behaviors (habits, compliance, mistakes, and violations). The major findings of the study are as follows. Stepwise regression analysis showed conscientiousness was a major predictor explaining safety habits and safety compliance; Cognitive failure and emotional stability were main predictors explaining safety mistakes, and self-regulation was a major predictor explaining safety violations. These findings suggest that development of proper education programs focusing on individual characteristics would allow systematic improvement of safety behaviors of university students.

중학생이 지각하는 모의 학습관여와 진로준비행동과의 관계: 희망의 매개효과를 중심으로 (The Relationship between Perceived Maternal Learning Involvement and Career Preparation Behaviors among Middle School Students : The Mediating Effects of Hope)

  • 최근 들어 초기 청소년기인 중학생 시기부터 진로준비를 적극적으로 해나가야 환경적 요구가 증가하면서 적극적인 진로준비행동을 촉진하는 환경적, 심리내적 변인에 대한 연구의 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 필요성에 근거하여 중학생을 대상으로 모의 학습관여가 진로준비행동에 미치는 영향을 희망이 매개하는지 알아보기 위해 실시되었다. 이를 위해 강원도 W시의 중학생 320명을 대상으로 모의 학습관여, 진로준비행동, 희망에 대한 설문을 실시하였고, 그 결과를 Baron과 Kenny(1986)의 매개효과 검증절차에 따라서 검증하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 모의 학습관여의 학업정보제공/조언, 학습방법존중은 희망 및 진로준비행동과 유의한 정적상관을 보였다. 반면 모의 부정적 학습관여인 학습성과 압력은 진로준비행동, 희망과 유의미한 상관을 보이지 않았다. 둘째, 희망은 모의 긍정적 학습관여인 학업정보제공/조언과 진로준비행동 간의 관계에서 부분매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 학습방법존중과 진로준비행동 간의 관계에서 완전매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 희망은 모의 부정적 학습관여인 학습성과 압력과 진로준비행동 간의 관계에서 매개효과를 나타내지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 중학생의 진로준비행동의 수준을 높이기 위해 적절한 학업정보와 조언을 제공하고, 학업정보제공/조언과 학습방법존중을 통해 희망을 고취하는 것이 중요함을 시사한다.

  • In the structure of modern houses, a living room is the space most frequently used by family members. In a living room, they rest, talk together, watch TV, study, read books and enjoy hobbies. A living room is furnished with a TV cabinet, a storage closet, a sofa, a bookshelf, a desk and etc. depending on the purposes of activities in it, which can be different in each house. Furniture is the required tool for indoor architectural space and humans to lead a life. In most families, a man and a woman marry each other and become man and wife, go through the honeymoon phase, give birth to one or two children and become a family with three or four members. According to the children's growth cycle from birth to infancy, early childhood, childhood, adolescence, youth and adulthood, furniture layout and kinds of furniture in a living room change. Depending on the family life cycle, most parents of young children try to help their children to form good habits of reading books and studying for their future. As for the environmental elements interrupting reading and studying, watching TV and using smart phones excessively are being regarded as problems. As the number of two-income families is increasing in this era when many women are participating in the social activities with the government's encouragement, children are having more time.

청소년의 샤덴프로이데가 사이버불링 가해행동에 미치는 영향: 자기인식의 조절효과 (The Moderating Effect of Self-Awareness on the Relationship between Schadenfreude and Cyberbullying)

  • 본 연구에서는 타인의 불행을 보고 즐거워하는 정서인 샤덴프로이데가 청소년의 사이버불링 가해행동을 예측하며, 이를 내적, 대인관계적, 환경적 자기인식이 조절할 것임을 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 중·고 등학생 300명을 대상으로 샤덴프로이데, 사이버불링 가해행동, 자기인식(내적, 대인관계적, 환경적), 우울, 불안에 대한 자료를 수집하고 변인 간의 관계를 상관분석과 위계적 회귀분석을 통해 확인해보았다. 통제 변인으로 우울과 불안을 투입한 후 분석한그 결과, 첫째, 샤덴프로이데는 사이버불링 가해행동을 예측하여, 샤덴프로이데 경향이 높은 사람들이 온라인상에서 사이버불링 가해행동을 더 많이 하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자기인식의 조절효과를 검증한 결과, 내적 자기인식과 대인관계적 자기인식이 평균 이상인 경우 사이버불링 가해행동을 강화하는 방향으로 조절효과를 보인 반면, 평균 미만인 경우는 조절효과를 보이지 않았다. 셋째, 환경적 자기인식은 조절효과를 보이지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 타인의 불행을 기대하는 정서이자 반사회적 특성이 잠재할 가능성이 있는 샤덴프로이데 경향이 청소년들의 실제적인 사이버불링 가해행동으로 이어진다는 점을 확인하면서, 일정 수준 이상 자신의 생각과 감정을 알아차리는 것과 대인관계 상에서 자신의 모습을 파악하는 것이 두 변인의 관계를 강화시킨다는 점을 발견하였다. 끝으로, 본 연구의 함의와 제한점에 대한 논의가 함께 이루어졌다.

고령운전자의 이동성(Mobility)과 심리적 안녕감의 관계 (The Relation between Mobility and The Psychological Well-Being of Elderly drivers)

  • 본 연구는 이동행동 뿐만 아니라 이동행동에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 심리적·신체적 기제를 포함하여 이동성의 개념을 포괄적으로 측정하였다. 그리고 고령운전자를 대상으로 고령운전자의 이동성이 그들의 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 연구 1에서는 만 20세 이상의 운전자 207명을 대상으로 이동성 질문지를 실시하였다. 요인분석 결과, 이동성은 안전운전능력, 이동감소, 사회활동, 상황적응능력이라는 4개의 요인으로 구성되었다. 연구 2에서는 만 65세 이상의 고령운전자 91명을 대상으로 이동성 질문지와 심리적 안녕감 질문지를 실시하였다. 고령운전자는 일반운전자에 비해 안전운전능력, 상황적응능력이 낮게 나타났으나, 이동감소와 사회활동은 높게 나타났다. 고령운전자의 이동성과 심리적 안녕감 간의 관계를 살펴본 결과, 고령운전자의 이동수준이 높아질수록 더 행복하고 만족스런 삶을 살고 있었다. 특히, 안전운전능력, 사회활동, 상황적응능력의 점수가 높을수록 더 행복하고 만족스런 삶을 살고 있었다. 고령운전자의 이동성이 심리적 안녕감에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 결과, 안전운전능력은 자율성과 자아수용에 영향을 미쳤으며, 이동감소는 자아수용과 긍정적 대인관계에 영향을 미쳤다. 사회활동은 자아수용, 환경지배력, 긍정적 대인관계에 영향을 미치고 있었으며, 상황적응능력은 자율성과 환경지배력에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

도시 고층아파트단지 주거민의 외부공간 이용행태 및 만족요인 분석 (Analysis on Residents Behavior and Determinants of Satisfaction to the Exterior Space in High-rise Apartment complex.)

  • The purpose of this study is to establish better residential environment in APT. complex. In this study, the actual conditions of exterior space, user behavior and degree of satisfaction are investigated and analyzed on the 5 high-rise story APT complex in Taegu city. The results of this study were as follow ; The size and arrangement of organizational elemnnt to exterior space in APT. complex have been regulated by law and regulations as the buildings coverage and floor space index, but housinghold and accessibility to the racility will be simultaneously considered to raise Quality of the residential environoment. The main user behavior to exterior space in APT. complex was practical activity and the user behavior pattern by week and among APT. complex were found similiarly. In the ratio of use to exterior space in APT. Complex, that of high-rise residents were lower than that of lowrise residents. In the degree of satisfaction by property of variables to exterior environment In APT. comples, physical of buildings, social - psychologic, managerial economical, physical property of exterior space were estimated positively, but properly of facility were estimated negatively. The degee of satisfaction to exterior environment in APT. complex was highly Influenced by green space, site size. As a result of ractor analysis, the four factors were drawn out from exterior environment in APT. complex. and the factors that have an effect on the degree of residents' satisfaction by factorscore were found in the order of importance as fallow ; managemental, physical, environmental, organizalional factor. Therefore, devilopment of APT. complex should be considered in a view of environmental psychology according to physical organization for used in the future. It is recommended that this problems should be necessitated to be more deeply studies in the future.

환경심리.행태 연구의 가능성과 한계성 (The Potential Application of Environmental Psychology and Behavior Studies to Environmental Design)

  • 환경설계교육에 있어서 환경심리·형태분야는 필수 교과목으로 등장하고 있으며, 우리나라에서 이와 관련된 교육내용 및 범위의 설정은 시급한 과제라 할 수 있다. 환경심리·형태의 연구분야는 학문적 연원을 추적해볼 때 심리학에 뿌리를 두고 있는 환경심리연구, 사회학, 인류학, 지리학 등에 근거하고 있는 환경 혹은 인간 형태연구, 건축, 조경, 도시설계등과 관련된 환경설계연구의 세가지 측면으로 나누어 볼수 있다. 환경설계에 필요한 창의성을 서고의 창의성과 표현의 창의성으로 구분한다면 환경심리·형태의 연구는 표현의 창의성보다는 사고의 창의성을 발휘하는데 있어서 기여가능성이 높다. 환경심리·형태의 연구는 (프로그램 설정)-(대안작성/평가)-(세부설계)-(시공)-(이용후 평가)와 같은 설계과정의 각 단계에서 필요로하는 과학적 자료를 제공함으로써 보다 합리적인 설계안의 작성 및 평가에 기여할 수 있다. 또한 환경설계의 제발 이론 및 기법은 대부분이 환경심리·형태연구에 이론적 경험적 기초를 두고 있으며, 따라서 환경심리 형태 연구의 발전은 설계 이론 및 기법의 개발에 크게 기여하게 될 것이다. 그러나 환경심리·형태 연구는 과학적연구가 지니는 특수서응로 인하여 환경설계가들이 원하는 바를 원하는 기간내에 도출하기 어려운 점이 있다. 따라서 장기간에 걸친 연구가 축적됨으로써 점차적으로 환경설계의 발전에 기여하게 될 것이다. 환경심리·형태의 연구는 환경설계와 관련된 이론적 및 실무적 문제를 해결하는데 있어서 기여가능성은 매우 높으나 성급한 기대를 갖는 것은 옳지못한 생각이다. 더 나아가서 환경심리·형태 연구가 환경설계자들의 표현적 창의력까지 대신해 줄수 있다고 생각한다면 더욱 옳지 못한 생각이다.
