  • Although microalgae are considered as a promising feedstock for biofuels, cost-efficient harvesting of microalgae needs to be significantly improved. In this study, the use of electro coagulation as a more rapid flocculation method for harvesting a freshwater (Scenedesmus dimorphus) microalgae species was evaluated. The results showed that, electro coagulation was shown to be more efficient using an aluminum anode than using an iron anode. And optimum conditions of electro coagulation for harvesting Scenedesmus dimorphus were found. The optimum stirring speed was 100 rpm and optimum pH was 5. Furthermore, the current density which the fastest and highest recovery efficiency is achieved at $30A/m^2$, while the highest energy efficiency was achieved at $10A/m^2$. A the rapid and high recovery efficiency indicate that electro coagulation is a particularly attractive technology for harvesting microalgae.

  • Recently, the earth has shown the limit of environmental capacity. It is also experiencing an environmental crisis with rising energy prices and depletion of coal. Therefore, development of renewable energy is very important solution. However, waste fuel solid are renewable fuels, but they cause environmental problems. In this study, the emission characteristics of hazardous air pollutants were analyzed through measurements at the facilities using solid fuels (SRF, BIO-SRF). Analysis method of PAHs are based on the Korea Standard Methods for Examination. The analysis of PAHs showed that the concentration much higher in Naphthalene, and Benzo(a)pyrene showed at a higher concentration incertain sources. As a result of gas phase and particle phase PAHs, most of Benzo(a)pyrene appeared to be particulate. Through the results of this study will provide basic data for atmospheric environmental management.

  • The application of Photovoltaic (PV) power in the building sector, is expanding as part of the ongoing energy transition into renewables. The article addresses the question of sustainability of energy generated from PVs through an environmental assessment of a building-integrated PV system (BIPV) connected to the grid through net metering. Employing retrospective life cycle analysis (LCA), with the CCaLC2 software and ecoinvent data, the article shows that the carrying structure and other balance of system (BOS) components are responsible for a three times higher energy payback time than the literature average. However, total environmental impact can be lowered through reuse or reinstallation of PVs on the same building structure after the 30-year interval. Further ways to improve environmental efficiency include identifying the most polluting materials for each LCA parameter. The results of this study are of interest to researchers and producers of PVs and organizations investing and promoting decentralized power production through PVs.

  • The purpose of this study was to estimate greenhouse gas emissions using IPCC 1996 Guideline Tier 1, Good Practice Guidance 2000 Tier 2 and IPCC 2006 Guideline First Order Decay methods from landfill disposal facility. In addition, a comparative analysis evaluating the pros and cons of each method based on assumptions and default factors was considered for each method. The greenhouse gas emission computed using IPCC 1996 Guideline Tier 1 method (2,760 ton/yr) was higher than the estimation of GPG 2000 Tier 2 and IPCC 2006 Guideline First Order Decay Model which showed 1500 and 880 ton/yr respectively between 2000 and 2013.

  • The environmental education is more and more important according to increasing environmental problems, but university students don't receive it actively. Actually, environmental education in university is conducted and focused on environmental engineering. In order to have an effect on environmental education for all engineering college students, the course of environmental education consists of various fields of engineering study including environmental engineering. The environmental education categories for engineering college students are determined by using an AHP technique in this study. After educating engineering college students with the developed environmental education course, we evaluated the environmental education performance using the survey on perception level and purchasing data of environmentally consciously products by statistical and RFM analysis.

  • The aim of this study is to understand the characteristics of volatile oranic compounds (VOCs) and provide information about the present Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) at residential apartments. All samples were collected in 60-min interval using the tenax absorption trap between May, 2011 and February, 2012. And the effects of environmental factors such as temperature, humidity and construction characteristics were analyzed in relation to the measured concentrations. The results of this study showed that the mean concentration of VOCs was lower than the Ministry of the Environment's standards for maintenance of indoor air quality. The correlation analysis showed that ethylbenzene and xylene (r=0.916, p<0.01), toluene and ehtylbenzene (r=0.810, p<0.01), toluene and xylene (r=0.803, p<0.01) and toluene and styrene (r=0.588, p<0.01) were significant. The result of regression analysis was found that the influenece factors associated with the concentration of VOCs were the age and location of the apartment, remodeling, the temperature and the season.

  • Not all structural columns maintain a vertical orientation. Several contemporary building structures have inclined columns, introducing distinct challenges, particularly in buckling behavior. This study examines the buckling behavior of inclined, thin-walled steel bundled columns, differing from typical vertical columns. Using specimens with three tubes welded to plates linearly aligned at the top and triangularly at the bottom, tests indicated that buckling capacity increases with tube wall thickness and diameter but decreases with column height. Inclined tubes in bundled columns showed improved buckling resistance over vertical ones. Results were verified against standard steel design guidelines to assess their predictive accuracy.
