The study was conducted by a questionnaire survey. The subjects were 215 interior designers working in Seoul area. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) The 33 representative elements of environment-friendly interior design were selected and categorized into 5 fields: resources and materials, energy savings, ecological environments, indoor environments, and space effectiveness. These would be useful to carry out environment-friendly interior design projects and related researches. 2) Many interior designers didn't understand what the environment-friendly interior design is correctly, even though they were interested in it. Therefore, the educational program of environment-friendly interior design should be developed. 3) Even though interior designers thought most elements of environment-friendly interior design very important, they didn't apply them well to actual projects. This implies that alternatives for activating them are needed.

The ideal housing in the 21st century means that it can provide people with the balanced life between nature and human life, while is possible through the systematic harmony of nature, environment, and human. As our society increasingly pays attention to the importance of environment, environment friendly houses and ecological dwellings are being built. If we add our own cultural environment attribute and historical identity to the ecological housing, we can create the most unique Korean ecological architecture. This study examines ecological interior expression methods from the traditional housing architecture which started out of nature, in order to find out an ecological approach in the interior design of the dwelling space. Based upon this examination, it mainly focuses on how these methods can be applied to a modern housing architecture. From an ecological perspective, the traditional house interior has two distinct characteristics; nature friendly and human friendly, because it considered nature and human harmoniously. The interior of the traditional housing can be divided into three types; nature friendly, health friendly, and human friendly. Finally, this study investigates the ecological value of the three types and application of them to modern housing. It will help to find out the harmonious way of building a house harmonizing both nature and human. Especially, considering that the nature is being destructed and the health of human is deteriorating due to the destruction of the nature, this study will show a feasible alternative to build the most Korean style of environmental architecture.

After the concept of apartments was introduced in 1960s in Korea, on account of the development of architectural technology and science, high-rise residences in Korea are getting higher, and these residences have been becoming high-rise commercial/residential buildings since 1990. Nowadays, as the construction of high-rise commercial residential building complex is booming, the difference between these complex and high-rise apartments is getting smaller, and these two kind of high-rise residences are becoming new residential style in Korea. And these high-rise residences are considered the symbol of wealth owing to the marketing strategy emphasizing high quality, refined interior, a fair view, and the protection of privacy. However, high-rise residences bring about many problems related to health and psychology caused by the consumption of a large amount of energy, pollutant emission, the deterioration of the quality of indoor air, and vibration. For this reason, in this study, we tried to emphasize the necessity of environment-friendly access to provide healthy living environment and to reduce the negative effect of housing life in high-rise residences, and find the method to improve environment-friendly quality and health of residents in interior space. Therefore, this study aims to detect the problems and the items to be improved of interior spaces of high-rise residences by quantitative, qualitative analysis of the evaluation elements and the floor planning elements deduced from environment-friendly architectural certification in Korea and the other countries, and suggest the guideline to improve the environment-friendly quality of these interior spaces.
The concepts of interior design work have set forward an aesthetic and functional proposition to be answered by those who design spaces. The available range of suitable materials for interior use appears to be almost inexhaustible in this day and age. Now a day, relatively new fields of study on environmental-friendly interior examine humans'innate affinity for health and explore its implications for architecture and the built environment. A growing field of research suggests that spaces' relationship to aesthetics and environment can either help or hinder their occupants' health and wellness, productivity, and even their creativity. This paper presents several examples of already built apartment houses in practice, and discusses the demand of users of the spaces for health and sustainable environment, deepening the relationship between newly-constructed spaces and the remodeled ones. The considerations to some new and contemporary materials from the aspect of healthy indoor architecture design are presented in this paper. Designers need to rethink the conventional and high-tech interior environment in apartment houses with respect to perceived air quality, material emissions, and odors. The future of interior design is oriented on light shapeable materials which are able to create a unique memorable atmosphere. The primary assignment in accepting recent materials and proceedings is our responsibility to creating proposals, that are mainly safe, hygienic and environmentally proper.

To resolve such problems, environmental friendly design concepts are evolving through various naming conventions such as conservation of global environment, environmental symbiosis, friendly environmental, nature-friendly, environmental friendly type, green building and eco-construction. Accordingly, in this research, for the purposes of healthy living environmental construction, nature as the subject of its design and highly praised as a new design arena, floral art design theory and its functions, as well as its examples are explored. As a response to the recent increase in the Interest in environment friendly interior finishing materials, the purpose of this study is to compare the awareness of environment friendly interior finishing materials between interior designers and housewives, as representatives of two different consumer groups, and to examine how the preferences between them differ. The study participant group for this research consisted of 80 interior designers working in Gwangju, and 166 housewives who were residents of a number of apartments in Gwangju. Self administered questionnaires were provided to the participants and were then collected. Unpaired t-tests and $x^2$ tests were used to compare the prevalence of epidemiological factors and the variables that revealthe awareness and the preference between the two groups. While it was expected that both groups would source information using the internet, the housewives group showed a tendency to also seek advice from others in the selection of environment friendly interior finishing materials. Interior-designers considered the high price and the lack of diverse products as the most serious problems involved in selecting environment friendly interior finishing materials. Interior-designers chose design, color and long-term use, and the method of maintenance as standards by which to choose interior materials in general, while the housewives considered 'environment friendly' as the most important standard. Both groups however favored environment friendly materials. There was no difference between the two groups in terms of their belief in the need to trust a well known brand name and in the importance of a Green-label placed on interior finishing materials such as wallpaper, paint and laminate flooring.
