Product Development in the Network-Centric Engineering Environment: Concept and Approach (네트워크 기반 엔지니어링 환경에서의 제품 개발: 개넘과 접근방식)

  • This paper presents an integrated but open product development environment for distributed and collaborative design. The web-based framework, called DOME, allows designers to build integrated models using both local and distributed resources, and to collaborate by exchanging services in a network-centric product development environment. Thus, an integrated model can be created while each participant focuses on his or her own area of expertise. A design problem model is created by connecting modules, which represent specific system components, analysis capabilities/software, disciplines, or organizations relevant to the problem. The modules interact with each other using service exchanges based upon the CORBA standard communication protocol. The goal of this framework is tall provide the ability to rapidly construct integrated design problem models to facilitate collaborative design work, improve product quality and reduce development time. Ultimately, it should allow specialized engineering applications and design problem models to operate under a common design environment.

Gender Differences Between the Relative Contributions of Variables to Problem Finding in Ill-structured and Moderately Structured Problem Situation (구조화 정도가 다른 문제 상황에서 문제발견에 대한 제 변인의 상대적 기여도에서의 남녀 차이)

  • The 166 elementary school students of this study were divided into four groups by gender and degree of structure in problem situations. Written instruments ascertained intelligence, conceptual knowledge, science process skills, divergent thinking, intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, personality traits, and home environment. Results were that male students scored higher on problem finding in the ill-structured than in the moderately structured problem situation. In the ill-structured problem situation, personality traits, conceptual knowledge, and intrinsic motivation contributed to the scores of male students and home environment and conceptual knowledge contributed to the scores of female students. In the moderately structured problem situation, personality traits and intrinsic motivation contributed to the scores of all students, but science process skills contributed to the scores of female students only.

  • An environmental problem is the important issue of mankind. It should be treated main discourse in our period. There are many assertions related to environment but they are not to be clearly classified because of miscellaneous paradigm. It is possible to classify into two category on the basis of human attitude toward nature and environmental problem. One of them is technocentrism and the other is ecocentrism. This classification is helpful to understand various environmental discourses. Owing to different paradigm approach, technocentrism and ecocentrism have different concept for environmental problem. Environmental problem has relation to logic behind economics. Technocentrism is powerful to the real life in behalf of economic rationalism. So they have a striking contrast. This study made clear the differences between technoentrism and ecocentrism. But ecocentrism is important for the only settlement of environmental problem in ecocentric perspectives.

A study on the use of continuous spectrum in problem solving in a dynamic geometry environment (동적 기하 환경의 문제 해결 과정에서 연속 스펙트럼 활용에 대한 소고)

  • The dynamic geometric environment plays a positive role in solving students' geometric problems. Students can infer invariance in change through dragging, and help solve geometric problems through the analysis method. In this study, the continuous spectrum of the dynamic geometric environment can be used to solve problems of students. The continuous spectrum can be used in the 'Understand the problem' of Polya(1957)'s problem solving stage. Visually representation using continuous spectrum allows students to immediately understand the problem. The continuous spectrum can be used in the 'Devise a plan' stage. Students can define a function and explore changes visually in function values in a continuous range through continuous spectrum. Students can guess the solution of the optimization problem based on the results of their visual exploration, guess common properties through exploration activities on solutions optimized in dynamic geometries, and establish problem solving strategies based on this hypothesis. The continuous spectrum can be used in the 'Review/Extend' stage. Students can check whether their solution is equal to the solution in question through a continuous spectrum. Through this, students can look back on their thinking process. In addition, the continuous spectrum can help students guess and justify the generalized nature of a given problem. Continuous spectrum are likely to help students problem solving, so it is necessary to apply and analysis of educational effects using continuous spectrum in students' geometric learning.

Development of a Web Based Learning Environment for Problem Solving using ICT in Home Economics Education (ICT를 활용한 家政科 Web기반 문제해결 학습환경의 개발)

  • The objective of this study was to develop a Web based learning environment for Home Economics Education(HEE) using ICT (Information & Communication Technology). For the study, the following procedures were performed: 1) the review of literature, 2) development of teaming environment and questionnaires based on Web for HEE using ICT. The Web based learning environment was investigated and designed, and evaluated by the users. The problems indicated through the evaluation were revised and complemented. In addition, 13 sets of Learning questionnaires, which were verified using the same procedure as above, were developed to provide problem solving ability through the Web based learning environment. Learning environment based on the Web entitled "Together with the classroom of HEE" has a main menu, which is composed of rooms for HEE, students, teachers, various topics, recommendation sites, chatting, and e-mail. A room for HEE, in which teaming activity mainly occurs by following the sequences of learning procedures, includes other sub-rooms for the guidance of Loaming, discussion, directories for reference, question and answer, submission of homework, evaluation, and an encyclopedia. Therefore, this study implicates: 1) achievement of teaming environment using the ICT mainly made by students who solve problems closely related to daily life, 2) development of practical learning questionnaires fitted in the present state, 3) preparation for the curriculum. Finally, from this study, I suggested that further studies are needed to develop models for learning, interaction between students and teachers, and the learning materials under the Web based loaming environment.

  • A purpose of our research is an acquisition of cooperative behaviors in inhomogeneous multi-agent system. In this research, we used the fire panic problem as an experiment environment. In Fire panic problem a fire exists in the environment, and follows in each steps of agent's behavior, and this fire spreads within the constant law. The purpose of the agent is to reach the goal established without touching the fire, which exists in the environment. The fire heat up by a few steps, which exists in the environment. The fire has unsureness to the agent. The agent has to avoid a fire, which is spreading in environment. The acquisition of the behavior to reach it to the goal is required. In this paper, we observe how agents escape from the fire cooperating with other agents. For this problem, we propose a unique CMAC based Q-learning system for inhomogeneous multi-agent system.

  • Nowadays, the number of school students in rural area has decreased significantly. For this reason, there are mixed classes among students of different grades in schools in rural area. Moreover, there are several teachers who teach two and more subjects except for the major of teacher so educational environment has been deteriorated. To tackle this problem, the ministry of education has suggested merging small schools in rural area. However, some people believe that merging small schools would make educational environment more worse and would not solve this problem. To solve this problem, this research suggests that the proper solution for educational environment of merging small schools through surveying environment of merging schools.

A Model of Problem Solving Environment for Integrated Bioinformatics Solution on Grid by Using Condor

  • Grid system has the potential to resolve the current need of bioinformatics for super-computing environment inexpensively. There are already several Grid applications of bioinformatics tools. To solve the real-world bioinformatics problems, however, the various integration of each tool is necessary in addition to the implementation of more basic tools. Workflow based problem solving environment can be the efficient solution for this type of software development. There are still heavy overhead, however, to develop and implement workflow model on current Grid system. He re we propose a model of simple problem solving environment that enables component based workflow design of integrated bioinformatics applications on Grid environment by using Condor functionalities. We realized this model for practical bioinformatics solutions of a genome sequence analysis and a comparative genome analysis. We implemented necessary bioinformatics tools and interfacing tools as the components, and combine them in the workflow model of each solution by using the tools presented in Condor.

Association between Psychosocial Work Environments and Problem Drinking: Age Differences in Korean Male Workers (사회심리적 작업환경이 문제음주에 미치는 영향: 연령 차이)

  • Purpose: This study firstly examined the pattern and prevalence of drinking. Secondly, we investigated the association between various psychosocial work environment and problem drinking among Korean male workers in different age groups. Methods: The study sample was a weighted population of 3,289 (3,289 survey samples) men aged 20 to 64 years who responded to the 2006 Korean Working Condition Survey. Social support from colleague and supervisor, work autonomy, psychological wellbeing at work, and intellectual and emotional work demand were assessed. Results: After considering sociodemographic factors, smoking, occupational characteristics and other psychosocial work environment factors, problem drinking was associated with "intellectual work demand" for the 20~34 year old group. Social support from colleague and supervisor was significantly associated with problem drinking in the 35~49 year old group. For the 50~64 year old group, problem drinking was associated with 'work autonomy'. Conclusion: The present study clarified that certain psychosocial work environmental factors relate to problem drinking, and the association varies among different age groups.

  • The purpose of information retrieval is to help users solve their problems. To fulfill the purpose the user's problem needs to be focused on. The purpose of this study is to identify components and the structure of the user's problem in an academic research environment. From this study it was found that the scientific problem dealt within an academic environment is complicate and the problem is composed of 8 topical and 4 non-topical components. And they could be organized into a stucture. This study has three implications for user-oriented information retrieval. (1) The components and the structure of the problem need to be the framework for the effective information retrieval process and for the evaluation of information retrieval. (2) The research methodology used in this study can be applied to other information service situations and this will result in greater practical implication of a study for more effective information retrieval. And (3) for more effective user-oriented information retrieval, the user needs to be observed and studied in the actual' situation. This study showed that the complicate problem of the actual user can be studied in a systematic way and this resulted in important implications for information retrieval.
