Development of a sonar map based position estimation system for an autonomous mobile robot operating in an unknown environment (미지의 영역에서 활동하는 자율이동로봇의 초음파지도에 근거한 위치인식 시스템 개발)

  • Among the prerequisite abilities (perception of environment, path planning and position estimation) of an autonomous mobile robot, position estimation has been seldom studied by mobile robot researchers. In most cases, conventional positioin estimation has been performed by placing landmarks or giving the entrire environmental information in advance. Unlikely to the conventional ones, the study addresses a new method that the robot itself can select distinctive features in the environment and save them as landmarks without any a priori knowledge, which can maximize the autonomous behavior of the robot. First, an orjentaion probaility model is applied to construct a lcoal map of robot's surrounding. The feature of the object in the map is then extracted and the map is saved as landmark. Also, presented is the position estimation method that utilizes the correspondence between landmarks and current local map. In dong this, the uncertainty of the robot's current positioin is estimated in order to select the corresponding landmark stored in the previous steps. The usefulness of all these approaches are illustrated with the results porduced by a real robot equipped with ultrasonic sensors.

  • We introduce Adaptive Fuzzy Impedance Controller for force control when robot contact with environment. Because robot and environment was always effected by nonlinear conditions. it needs to deal with parameter's uncertainty. As. it induced Fuzzy system in impedance controller. it used fuzzy inference logic that has robustness about uncertainty to tune impedance controller stiffness gain. We applied adaptive fuzzy impedance controller in One-Link Robot system and the method shows a good performance on desired position and force control with intensional contacting environment.

  • This study presents the result of uncertainty and sensitivity analysis of a pharmacokinetic model which describes the distribution and removal of benzene at each organ when an indivisual inhales indoor contaminated air with benzene originated from groundwater. The pharmacokinetic model simulates the distribution of benzene deposited in organs of human body through inhalation of contaminated indoor air as well as degradation-metabolism in liver. This study focused on the uncertainty problem induced from the use of the single values for blood flow, partition coefficient, degradation constant, volume, etc. of each organ which was due to a lack of knowledge about these parameters or their measurements. To solve this problem, uncertainty analysis on the pharmacokinetic model was conducted simultaneously which would help understanding the risk assessment associated with VOCs.

  • Socially, organizations are required to effectively manage their information resources, both in terms of acquiring information from external sources and safeguarding against potential breaches by insiders. While information security policies and technologies implemented by organizations contribute to achieving internal security, an overly complex or disorganized security structure can create uncertainty among employees. In this study, we identify factors of structural information security (IS)-related uncertainty within organizations and propose that they contribute to non-compliance. We develop a research model and hypotheses based on previous studies on the information security environment and test these hypotheses using structural equation modeling. Our findings indicate that uncertainties related to IS policy, technology, and communication decrease employees' IS role identity and their intention to comply with IS measures. By addressing these uncertainties, organizations can improve their IS environment and work towards achieving there is goals.

  • Reconstruction analysis of traffic accident is done by analyzing diverse data such as the road, accident traces and damage on the automobile. Most data can be a variable in the process of analysis, and measurement error of the data occurs from the investigator, tool and the given environment. Therefore, accident analysis always has some risks of measurement uncertainty. This research quantify the uncertainty in traffic accident analysis by conducting repetitive measurement experiments for variables with high probability of uncertainly such as length (i.e. geometric structure of the road, tire marks) and coefficient of friction. This paper also suggests an analysis result for the uncertainly of photographic observation of automobile crush measurement. These statistical distributions can help determine appropriate ranges for the input data in order to estimate the accident reconstruction uncertainty.

The Effect of Market Orientation on Speed-to-market in International Markets

  • Purpose - The major aim of this article is to advance understanding of the relationship between market orientation and speed-to-market. Specifically, this study examines the different impacts of component of market orientation on commitment to R&D and speed-to-market and explores whether market uncertainty plays a role of moderating in speed-to-market for market-oriented firms. Research design, data, and methodology - This study collected a survey data from Korean exporting firms. The Final sample size was 196. The measure of market orientation was conceptualized with second order constructs. All items were measured on five-point scale. To confirm hypotheses, this study conducted a hierarchical regression. Results - As sub-constructs of market orientation, customer orientation, competitor orientation and interfunctional coordination foster speed-to-market, and the relationship between only customer orientation and speed-to-market might be weakened when the extent of market uncertainty is high. Conclusions - This study confirmed the relationship between market orientation and speed-to-market, with three components of market orientation respectively, and whether market uncertainty plays a role of moderating which weaken the link between market orientation and speed-to-market. It could be useful to take a component approach to the market orientation construct, because the roles of different market orientation components might vary, contingent on uncertainty in the environment.

  • An asset tracking using wireless sensor network is concerned with geographical locations of sensor nodes. The limited size of sensor nodes makes them attractable for tracking service, at the same time their size causes power restrictions, limited computation power, and storage restrictions. Due to such constrained capabilities, the wireless sensor network basically assumes the failure of sensor nodes. This causes a set of concerns in designing asset tracking system on wireless sensor network and one of the most critical factors is location uncertainty of sensor nodes. In this paper, we classify the location uncertainty problem in asset tracking system into following cases. First, sensor node isn't read at all because of sensor node failure, leading to misunderstanding that asset is not present. Second, incorrect location is read due to interference of RSSI, providing unreliable location of asset. We implemented and installed our asset tracking system in a real environment and continuously monitored the status of asset and measured error rate of location of sensor nodes. We present experimental results that demonstrate the location uncertainty problem in asset tracking system using wireless sensor network.

  • In the last few years, the regulations for efficiency grade of the three phase induction motor are internationally being discussed and upgraded for the protection of environment and energy saving. So the efficiency improvement and the reliable test result are essential to determine the premium grade three phase induction motor. While a study on developing the efficiency motor is active, there is little research about the guarantee for efficiency. So in this paper, the dispersion characteristic of the efficiency is studied using uncertainty theory for the three phase induction motor to improve the reliability of efficiency. The values such as input voltage, current, speed, torque were obtained by loss separation method to evaluate the uncertainty. From the result, it was known that the important loss factor could affect the uncertainty is the stray loss.

  • This study attempted to analyze the influence of both internal and external business environment factors on the characteristics of the management accounting system (MAS). For this, external business environment factors were divided into environmental uncertainty and market competition while internal factors were classified into management strategy, organizational structure and advanced manufacturing technology. In addition, the characteristics of the MAS were categorized into information scope, timeliness, integration and aggregation. The study results found the followings: Among business environment factors, environmental uncertainty had a relatively significant effect on the scope, integration and aggregation of information while organizational structure revealed the largest influence on timeliness. However, market competition had no particular effect on the characteristics of the MAS.
