  • Although the population of the elderly has grown rapidly, their residential environment is not supported appropriately. The elderly are hard to adapt a new environment, so the concept of 'aging in place' is on the rise. For these reasons, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Construction and Transportation, and Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy suggested each a design guideline for the elderly housing. In this study, we made a comparative analysis on these guidelines. Each guideline has something common but has some differences. So they needs of their integration after this.

  • Business environment for e-commerce companies have been rapidly changed for the last several yens and they have found out that strategic alliance as one of the important and practical means to cope with the dynamic environment. Despite the increasing number of e-commerce company's strategic alliances during last several years, there have been few studies made on strategic alliance which reflect the e-commerce company's uniqueness: dynamism, time to market, If-based business, etc. In order to reflect this uniqueness, we attempt to derive guidelines of alliance process for e-commerce companies in three aspects: 1) resource system analysis, 2) value chain analysis, and 3) If-based strategic alliance implementation and management. Finally, we propose the integrated process of strategic alliance for e-commerce companies including those proposed guidelines.

  • Nursery is a very important space for the development and growth of children. Domestic national nurseries mostly have uniform space composition, and there is no significant difference from the general architecture. Therefore, this study focused on presuming the cause of uniformity in domestic nursery space configuration through analysing the competition guidelines. For this purpose, we reviewed the procedure of the competitions and collected 57 competition guidelines for the last 10 years. The competition guideline was divided into design guidelines and evaluation items, and each of them were analysed focused on the contents of the items and the changes over time. The derived results suggested the problems which seem to affect the uniformity of the domestic nursery in three aspects: design guidelines, evaluation items, and the current procedure of nursery competitions.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the pollution assessment of organic matters, nutrients, and metals in sediment in major lakes (5 lakes and 17 sites) of Buk-han river using various sediment pollution assessment guidelines and indices. The concentrations of organic matters and nutrients were lower than class IV (Sediment pollution assessment guidelines of Korea) and Severe Effect Level (SEL, Sediment pollution assessment guidelines of Ontario). This results indicated that the lakes sediments were unpolluted and tolerable level for sediment dwelling organisms by organic matters and nutrients. However, several sites of Chuncheon and Soyang lakes were evaluated "heavily polluted" level by organic index (Org-index). The order of lakes by metals concentrations from the one with the highest concentration was Hwacheon, Chuncheon, Cheongpyeong, Uiam, Soyang. All lakes except Hwacheon were assessed unpolluted to marginally and tolerable level for sediment dwelling organisms by metals based on sediment pollution assessment guidelines (Korean and Ontario), indices of geoaccumulation ($I_{geo}$), pollution loading (PLI) and ecological risk (RI). In Lake Hwacheon, every investigated sites were polluted with metals, especially Hg, based on sediment pollution assessment guideline of Korea and indices ($I_{geo}$, PLI and RI). The dwelling organisms in sediment of Hwacheon Lake were likely to be severed by metals.

  • With the changing of social needs and paradigms, citizens are concerned about aesthetic and cultural community gardens from productive urban farms in Korea. It is still difficult, however, to cultivate a beautiful garden with a community to design, install and manage it. Therefore, this study analyzed the community garden design guidelines of other countries to derive the characteristics and implications. The research method analyzed six guidelines for community garden design in the UK, Canada, the USA, Australia and Japan. As a result of the study, most community garden design guidelines are opened freely via on-line service. The guidelines are composed with chronological processes such as intro, site selection, design, construction and maintenance. The introduction section treats definition, purpose, meaning, efficiency and success factors for community gardens. Site selection emphasizes site conditions (soil, light, shadow, water, etc.), landholding and insurance. The design section, however, lacks adequate drawings and case images. These guidelines offer little explanation with few illustrations and sentences. Construction sections explain about plantings, facilities, expense and details. The maintenance guidelines of community gardens contain how to control members, funding, harvesting, pests and plants. In addition, some guidelines include vandalism, organic cultivation methods, recording and advertisement. Lastly, the appendix contains a variety of checklists, administrative documents, guidelines, drawings, and contacts. This study will help understand the trends and characteristics of overseas community gardens design guidelines so as to also supply directions for guidelines to be introduced in Korea.

  • Korean water quality guidelines for agricultural were derived to protect agricultural water uses according to the Canadian methodology. The adverse effect of heavy metals in agricultural water was of concern due to its persistence, bioaccumulation and ecotoxicity to crop plants. The ecotoxicity data of cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc were collected for the crops grown in Korea, and used to estimate the species maximum acceptable toxicant concentration (SMATC), which corresponds to the water quality guideline. Values of irrigation per year and soil bulk density were revised to reflect the Korean situation. The estimated guideline values for cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc were 0.01, 0.5, 0.1, and 1.0 mg/L, respectively. These values are in agreement with the agricultural water quality guidelines of foreign countries and current Korean water quality standard for the protection of public health. Current water quality standards in agricultural uses were for management of public water resource, and was not prepared to protect crop plants from contaminants. The results of this study will be a basis for the designation of Korean water quality guidelines for the protection of agricultural water uses in the future.
