  • The Cobitis hankugensis-Iksookimia longicorpa complex from Korea has been presumed to be a unisexual lineage, originating from C. hankugensis and I. longicorpa and having almost all females. Recently, it was confirmed that the complex consisted of one diploid and two triploid complexes. From observation of their oocyte envelopes, three forms could be classified: a villous projection in I. longicorpa, a granular one in C. hankugensis and two triploid complexes, and a granule with villous one in the diploid complex. Even within the same granular projection, they showed specific features in length and density number from each other. These architectures are first observed in cobitid complexes and may playa role in identification of diploids and triploids.

  • The IIS(Internal Insulation System) is applied in most Korean apartment buildings which are the most common type of residential buildings. Consequently, there are many cases in which the layer of insulation is disconnected by the structural components at the wall-slab and wall-wall joints in the envelope. These joints become thermal bridges where the risk of heat loss increases. It is expected that the EIFS(External Insulation and Finish System) is the solution to this problem. In this study, annual heating and cooling loads of apartment buildings with IIS and EIFS were compared using Design Builder program in order to evaluate the thermal storage effect of EIFS where the concrete thermal mass is located inside of the insulation material. As results, the apartment building with EIFS could reduce annual heating and cooling loads by 2.4% and 4.1%, respectively.

  • Enhancement of exterior's insulation performance like wall or window etc. is general way for building's energy efficient and thermal performance. But exterior's opening plan is important for minimizing the energy consumption and heat loss. In this paper, energy saving rate will be analyzed and compared considering the window area's rate and window's SC(Shading Coefficient) in a apartment with Building Energy Efficiency Rating System's evaluation tool. In the process of evaluation, energy saving rate is measured at each stage of the window area's rate from 20% to 60% every 10% term and the shading coefficient value from 1.0 to 0.6. As a result of this research, energy saving evaluation could not be measured exactly with existing evaluation tool. Accord this research, Building Energy Rating System's evaluation range is needed to be broaden for exact evaluation of energy saving rate.

  • Semi-analytical methodology to examine the dynamic responses of a bridge is developed via the joint probability density function. The evolution of joint probability density function is evaluated by the semi-analytical procedure developed. The joint probability function of the bridge responses can be obtained by solving the path-integral solution of the Fokker-Planet equation corresponding to the stochastic differential equations of the system. The response characteristics are observed from the joint probability density function and the boundary of the envelope of the probability density function can provide the maxima ol the bridge responses.

  • The method of generating the artificial acceleration time histories for seismic analysis based on genetic algorithms is presented. For applying to the genetic algorithms, the frequencies are selected as the decision variables eventually to be genes. An arithmetic average crossover operator and an arithmetic ratio mutation operator are suggested in this study. These operators as well as the typical simple crossover operator are utilized in generating the artificial acceleration time histories corresponding to the specified design response spectrum. Also these generated artificial time histories are checked whether their outward features are to be coincident with the recorded earthquake motion or not. The features include envelope shape, correlation condition between 2 horizontal components of motion, and the relationship of max. acceleration, max. velocity and max. displacement of ground.

  • In this study, for estimating responses of a controlled structure and determining the maximum control force of velocity-dependent damping devices, three estimation models such as Fourier envelope convex model, probability model, and Newmark design spectrum are used. For this purpose, a procedure is proposed for estimating actual velocity using pseudo-velocity and this procedure considers the effects of damping ratio increased by the damping device. Time history results indicate that actual velocity should be used for estimating accurate maximum control force of damping device and Newmark design spectrum modified by the proposed equation gives the best estimation results for over all period structures.

  • This paper is concerned with modeling of a ductile fracture criterion for sheet metal considering anisotropy to predict the sudden fracture of advanced high strength steel (AHSS) sheets during complicated forming processes. The Lou−Huh ductile fracture criterion is modified using the Hill’s 48 anisotropic plastic potential instead of the von Mises isotropic plastic potential to take account of the influence of anisotropy on the equivalent plastic strain at the onset of fracture. To determine the coefficients of the model proposed, a two dimensional digital image correlation (2D-DIC) method is utilized to measure the strain histories on the surface of three different types of specimens during deformation. For the derivation of an anisotropic ductile fracture model, principal stresses (𝜎1,𝜎2, 𝜎3) are expressed in terms of the stress triaxiality, the Lode parameter, and the equivalent stress (𝜂𝐻, 𝐿,) based on the Hill’s 48 anisotropic plastic potential. The proposed anisotropic ductile fracture criterion was quantitatively evaluated according to various directions of the maximum principal stress. Fracture forming limit diagrams were also constructed to evaluate the forming limit in sheet metal forming of AHSS sheets over a wide range of loading conditions.

  • White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) is the causative agent of a disease that has led to severe mortalities of cultured shrimps in Korea and many other countries. Since 1993, massive mortalities due to the viral infection have also occurred in the penaeid shrimps cultured in Korea. WSSV is a large, circular, double stranded (ds) DNA virus and an enveloped, ellipsoid virus with a rod-shaped nucleocapsid with flat ends. In order to identify the characteristics of this Korean isolate of WSSV, the genes for four virion proteins, VP15, VP19, VP28 and VP35 were cloned and their sequences were compared with the available pool of WSSV gene sequences in the GenBank/EMBL databases. From these comparisons, we confirm the occurrence of WSSV in Korea and deduce that, VP15, VP28 and VP35 genes are identically conserved among the Korean isolate and geographically different foreign isolates, but VP19 amino acid sequences of the Korean WSSV isolates changed valine of the foreign isolates into aspartate. • The present study was carried out to determine viral antigens and its morphogenesis in the ultrathin frozen and araldite sections of cell cultures infected with ADV by protein A-gold labeling. ADV antigens were labeled with 10nm gold probes, and electron-dense gold particles were mainly present on viral nucleocapsids and viral envelopes. Immunogold labeling in the ultracryosections showed a very low degree of interaction with tissue structures. Immunogold labeling in the ultrathin cryosections can be useful tool for the detection of ADV antigens, and the technique also may provide its great potential for immunocytochemical studies on various virus-host cell Interactions.

  • The molecular cloud, embedding AFGL 2591, has a "head-and-tail" structure with a total mass of ${\sim}\;1800\;M_{\odot}$, about half of the mass (${\sim}\;900\;M_{\odot}$) in the head (size ${\sim}\;1.2\;pc$ in diameter), and another half in the envelope (${\sim}\;3.5\;pc$ in the east-west direction). We found a new cloud in the direction toward north-east from AFGL 2591 (projected distance ${\sim}\;2.4\;pc$), which is probably associated with the AFGL 2591 cloud. The $^{12}CO$ spectrum clearly shows a blue-shifted high-velocity wing at around the velocity $-20\;{\sim}\;-10\;km\;s^{-1}$, but it is not clear whether this high-velocity component has a bipolar nature in our observations. The observed CN spectra also show blue-shifted wing component but the existence of the red-shifted component is not clear, either. In some CN and HCN spectra, the highvelocity components appear as a different velocity component, not a broad line-wing component. The dense cores, traced by CN and HCN, exist in the 'head' of the AFGL 2591 cloud with an elongated morphology roughly in the north-south direction with a size of about 0.5 pc. The abundance ratio between CN and HCN is found to be about 2 - 3 within the observed region, which may suggest a possibility that this core is being affected by the embedded YSOs or by possible shocks from outside.
