Chirality is ubiquitous in physics and biology from microscopic to macroscopic phenomena, such as fermionic interactions and DNA duplication. In photonics, chirality has traditionally represented differentiated optical responses for right and left circular polarizations. This definition of optical chirality in the polarization domain includes handedness-dependent phase velocities or optical absorption inside chiral media, which enable polarimetry for measuring the material concentration and circular dichroism spectroscopy for sensing biological or chemical enantiomers. Recently, the emerging field of non-Hermitian photonics, which explores exotic phenomena in gain or loss media, has provided a new viewpoint on chirality in photonics that is not restricted to the traditional polarization domain but is extended to other physical quantities such as the orbital angular momentum, propagation direction, and system parameter space. Here, we introduce recent milestones in chiral light-matter interactions in non-Hermitian photonics and show an enhanced degree of design freedom in photonic devices for spin and orbital angular momenta, directionality, and asymmetric modal conversion.

Electroosmotic flux during iontophoresis originates due to the net negative charge of the current passing channel (pores) in skin at physiological pH (pH 7.4). Thus, the channel is permselective to cations, and this causes the convective solvent flow, from anode to cathode direction. This solvent flow facilitates the flux of cations (from anode), inhibits that of anions (from cathode), and enables the enhanced transport of neutral, polar solutes. In this work, we have investigated the effect of a series of polyethylene glycols (PEGs) with different molecular weights on the electroosmtic flow to get more detail understanding of this phenomena. The paper describes the conceptual design, structural modelling and wind load analysis of tall buildings. The lateral stiffness of the building can be obtained economically through the interaction of core walls with peripheral frame tube and/or bundle of frame tubes and integrated design of the basement. The main structural components should be properly distributed such that the building will deflect mainly in the direction of the applied force without inducing significant response in other directions and twist. The cost effectiveness can be further enhanced through close consultation between architects and engineers at an early stage of conceptual design. Simplified structural modelling of the building and its response in three principal directions due to wind load are included. Effects of the two main structural components on the performances of a 70-story reinforced concrete building in terms of peak drift and maximum acceleration under wind load are discussed.
In contrast to conventional liquid phase epitaxy of GaAs, surface kinetics limited growth is predominant in selective liquid phase epitaxy. For the stripe openings in the high-index crystal-lographic directions, the well-known facet formations and the decompositions into the low index planes or smooth circular surfaces are observed depending on the growth kinetics. For the low index direction stripe, surface kinetics limited growth is evident. By a numerical calcualtion we show that these phenomena are due to the enhanced masstransport by two dimensional diffusion and growth rate anisotropy which is found to be very stdrong with cusped minima for some singular planes in the solution growth as well as in vapor phase epitaxy. Morphological stability is briefly treated in terms of diffusion and its implications on device application are stated. Tese phenomena may be common to III-V compound semiconductors as well as GaAs.
Spiral arms greatly affect gas flows and star formation in disk galaxies. We use local 3D simulations of vertically-stratified, self-gravitating, gaseous disks under a stellar spiral potential to study the effects of spiral arms on galactic star formation as well as formation of gaseous spurs/feathers. We adopt the TIGRESS framework to handle radiative heating and cooling, star formation, and ensuing supernova (SN) feedback. We find that more than 90% of star formation takes place inside spiral arms. The global star formation rate (SFR) in models with spiral arms is enhanced by less than a factor of 2 compared to the no-arm counterpart. This supports the picture that spiral arms do not trigger star formation but rather redistribute star-forming regions. Correlated SN feedback produces interarm feathers in both magnetized and unmagnetized models. These feathers live short, have parallel magnetic fields along their length, and are bounded by SN feedback in the lateral direction, in contrast to instability-induced feathers formed in our previous isothermal simulations.
This study evaluated the enhancement of microstructural and mechanical properties of a cross rolled Ni-10Cr alloy, comparing with conventionally rolled material. Cold rolling was carried out to 90% thickness reduction and the specimens were subsequently annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ for 30 min to obtain a fully recrystallized microstructure. Cross roll rolling was carried out at a tilted roll mill condition of $5^{\circ}$ from the transverse direction in the RD-TD plane. In order to observe the deformed microstructures of the cold rolled materials, transmission electron microscopy was employed. For annealed materials after rolling, in order to investigate the grain boundary characteristic distributions, an electron back-scattering diffraction technique was applied. Application of cold rolling to the Ni-10Cr alloy contributed to notable grain refinement, and consequently the average grain size was refined from 135 ${\mu}m$ in the initial material to 9.4 and 4.2 ${\mu}m$ in conventionally rolled and cross rolled materials, respectively, thus showing more significantly refined grains in the cross rolled material. This refined grain size led to enhanced mechanical properties such as yield and tensile strengths, with slightly higher values in the cross rolled material. Furthermore, the <111>//ND texture in the CRR material was better developed compared to that of the CR material, which contributed to enhanced mechanical properties and formability.
