  • This study attempted to publicize the excellence of art of seal engraving in the Joseon Dynasty by analyzing the fusion factors of seal 'Wandangyego' which Oh Gyuil engraved. The appearance of Wandangyego was compared with other seals. The calligraphy philosophy in Wandangyego, the composition of inmun Wan-Dang-Ye-Go, and Oh Gyuil's method of holding graver were analyzed. As a result, Wandangyego was the world's largest rectangular seal and contained the writing philosophy of his teacher Kim Junghee. Oh Gyuil was a seal engraving artist and expert in the manufacture of seal handles. He used 'chungdo' and 'jeoldo' appropriately, and stimulated the deliberate emotion of oriental art with layout applied with exquisite oriental golden ratio. The importance of the real seal was suggested, and it was proved that the seal Wandangyego was a prominent work worldwide. The results of this study are expected to be a new research methodology for analyzing the fusion factors in painting, sculpture and design.

  • To improve the sensitivity, a detector using a block scintillator was developed. In the pixelated scintillator, a reflector is located between pixels to move the light generated from the scintillator to the photosensor as much as possible, and sensitivity loss occurs in the reflector portion. In order to improve the sensitivity and to have the characteristics of the pixelated scintillator, the block scintillator was processed into a scintillator in pixel form through three-dimensional laser engraving. The energy spectra and energy resolution of each pixel were measured, and sensitivity analysis of block and pixel scintillator was performed through GATE simulation. The measured global energy resolution was 20.7%, and the sensitivity was 18.5% higher than that of the pixel scintillator. When this detector is applied to imaging devices such as gamma camera and positron emission tomography, it will be possible to shorten the imaging time and reduce the dose of patient by using less radiation source.

  • The new algorithm for halftone generation for gravure engraving was developed. The basic concept of this algorithm is based on the mapping and equal density expansion methods that we are mapped out. The program was used by the Microsoft Visiul C++2.0 and could be loaded in IBM personal computer.

  • 1. The Purpose of the Research Historical study on the early woodblock printing in Korea has been mostly focussed on woodblock-printed books. Whereas, researches on those who pioneered to develop the advanced culture of the times have been very scant. Meanwhile, extant temple woodblock publications contain well preserved descriptions about Monk-Engravers and Sextons together with respective colophons at the end of the books. These records are very important research materials in the study of woodblock printing history and are also very useful source materials for discernment in conducting historical research about woodblock-printed books. Based on these records, this research has revelaed the characteristics of the Engrevers and realities of engraving activities, and by doing this, has clarified the characteristics of temple woodblock publications, and discussed the historical research about the woodblock-printed-publications by means of the Engravers. 2. Research Methods Temple woodblock publications with colophons in the nation's major libraries have been directly investigated and 3,059 Engravers were identified in 510 different woodblock-printed books, based on which this research and analysis have been conducted. 3. Research Results As a result of the research the followings have been clarified. A The Engravers' status composition and the motivation of engraving. B. The realities and tendencies of the Engravers' activities. C. The characteristics of the times found in the Engravers' lists. D. Historical research methods through the names of the Engravers.

  • In printed electronics, printing rolls are used to transfer electronic ink onto a flexible substrate. Generally printing rolls are patterned in microscale by the indirect laser method. Since based on the wet etch process, the indirect method is neither environment-friendly nor suitable for making a printing roll with patterns narrower than $20{\mu}m$. In this paper, we have directly engraved micro-patterns into a Zn-coated metal specimens using a picosecond laser in order both to engrave $10{\mu}m$-wide patterns and to improve the pattern profile. Experiments showed that it is possible to engrave $10{\mu}m$-wide patterns with an a rectangular-shaped profile which is necessary for the dimensionally accurate printing.

  • This study investigated the improvement of safety certification marking method and location marked on temporary equipments in order to guarantee the quality and safety of temporary equipments. The survey was performed for the stakeholder (manufacturers, lessors, and users) to find out the effective way that all stakeholder can agree each other. The main reason which users checked the safety certification making is that the mandatory safety certification marking can prevent the usage of poor and illegal temporary equipments. For the marking method, all stakeholder agreed that a depressed engraving method was an effective and usable displaying method. The opinions about the position of safety certification marking among the users, lessors, and manufacturers did not come into the agreement. The manufacturers preferred the marking position in which the engraving process is easy, but users wanted the conspicuous place such as vertical member. However, it is necessary to continuously study ways to adopt the position preferred by the users.

  • We studied optical simulation method for ultra slim backlight system. We designed 0.7mm thickness light guide plate and combined 48 white color LEDs for 12 inch wide size TFT-LCD. We designed flat shape PMMA light guide plate with both side patterned. It have vertical prism shape on upper side and ellipse dot pattern on the other side. We targeted 4500 nit brightness and uniform emission characteristic without hot spot or dark area. At first, we designed uniform emission area with more high brightness in center area and then, debugged light entering hot spot zone and direction of outgoing light flux. Although it was designing step, we obtained good result with reverse prism optical sheet and it had good repeatability because it was based on the stamper method in injection process without laser engraving or micro groove engraving method.

  • The color difference caused by the overprinting sequence of ink in multicolor printing is due to both trapping and optical properties of ink layers. Hence the effect of optical properties only cannot be analyzed without removing the effect of ink trapping This study was carrier out for the purpose of analyzing optically the color difference caused by only the optical properties of ink under the various printing sequence. The present optical analysis for overprints showed a good agreement with the experimental result. It is expected that this study may contribute to decreasing the color difference between the original and the printed reproduction in multi-color printing.
