The first purpose of the present study is to investigate the way of displaying English words to facilitate phonological loops on the digital screen, and the second purpose is to test whether or not the more effective display type can increase learning rates equally in both low and high foreign language motivation group. To achieve these aims, two experiments were conducted. Experiment 1 showed that 3 times display condition generated higher performances in recall and recognition test than 1 time display condition did. In Experiment 2, we recruited high motivated group and low motivated group in foreign language learning, and assigned each member into 3 times display condition and self-pace condition. The results of Experiment 2 showed that the performance in the low motivated group was higher in the self-pace condition than in 3 times display condition, while this difference was not found in high motivated group. The present results suggest the display type increasing usage of phonological loops in digital screen environments.
This study investigates the fine-tuning of large-scale Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) models, specifically OpenAI's Whisper model, for domain-specific applications using the KsponSpeech dataset. The primary research questions address the effectiveness of targeted lexical item emphasis during fine-tuning, its impact on domain-specific performance, and whether the fine-tuned model can maintain generalization capabilities across different languages and environments. Experiments were conducted using two fine-tuning datasets: Set A, a small subset emphasizing specific lexical items, and Set B, consisting of the entire KsponSpeech dataset. Results showed that fine-tuning with targeted lexical items increased recognition accuracy and improved domain-specific performance, with generalization capabilities maintained when fine-tuned with a smaller dataset. For noisier environments, a trade-off between specificity and generalization capabilities was observed. This study highlights the potential of fine-tuning using minimal domain-specific data to achieve satisfactory results, emphasizing the importance of balancing specialization and generalization for ASR models. Future research could explore different fine-tuning strategies and novel technologies such as prompting to further enhance large-scale ASR models' domain-specific performance.
The purpose of this study is to explore the potential of peer coaching for EFL teachers' professional development. For this study, 12 college teachers in Korea participated in a 10-week program. They were 7 males and 5 females, ranging in age from 24 to 37 years. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Reflective analysis was used to analyze individual interview data. From the findings, two significant categories of peer coaching were identified: positive and negative responses to peer coaching experience. However, the overriding themes that emerged from the data were the benefits of peer coaching. The participants were almost unanimous in their acknowledgement of the advantages of peer coaching, such as reflective support through other's eyes, improved working environments, greater teaching strategies, higher professional self-esteem, and awareness of self-directed learning. Negative responses also appeared, mostly in regard to the working principles of implementation; the major issues of difficulties were time management, complexities of implementation procedure, stress and personal vulnerability, and relative lack of reflection and feedback skills. Demonstrating the participants' experiences towards the peer coaching program, this study provides EFL teachers with useful insights into peer coaching as an effective tool of their professional development.

According to the increasing of the internet infrastructure and growth of contents technology, the users can access an education service at anytime and anywhere. In a field of English education, especially, internet technology has enabled learners to communicate with their teachers and multimedia contents technology has been able to provide learner not only lots of interests, but also good effect on English learning. In this paper, we propose a method diagnosing learner's level by using some question-items, which consist of item's type and item's function. Futhermore, the proposed system can support three devices which are PC, PDA, and Mobile Phone on wired and wireless internet communication environments. Also, the system provides multimedia contents including flash movies, image, and audio contents. We have applied the system into real classroom, and we verified that the question-items that system provides has no problem, and our method could improve each learner skill on English education. Therefore, we expect that learner who uses the proposed system will get level-based English learning service at anytime and anywhere.
Changes in the first language (L1) sound system as a result of acquiring a second language (L2) (i.e., phonetic drift) have received considerable attention from a variety of speakers, settings, and environments. Less attention has been given to phonetic drift in adult speakers' L2 learning as their length of residence in America (LOR) increases. This study examines the effects of LOR on voice onset time (VOT) in L1 Korean stops. Three different groups of Korean adult learners of L2 English were compared to assess how malleable their L1 representations are in terms of LOR and whether there is any relationship between L1 change and L2 acquisition. The results showed that the effect of LOR was linguistically unimportant in the production of Korean stops. However, VOT merger as evidence of sound change in Korean stops were robust in the speech production of most of the female speakers across the groups. The results suggest that L2 English may not be the primary cause of L1 sound change. For generalizability, further study is necessary to see whether other acoustic cues show a similar pattern.
The purpose of the study is discovering the effects of different VR devices in learning. For this purpose, this study conducted experiments in HMD and Tablet PC learning environments to analyze differences in device characteristics according to technological evolution. In the experimentation, 37 test subject members were involved and Talklish program, English education service, were used as a learning content. The results showed that the learning method using HMD VR has a higher level of immersion, social consciousness, and learning motivation than Tablet PC methods.
This study investigates the developmental process of Korean postverbal negation in a Korean-English bilingual child. The purposes of this study are firstly to find both common and divergent paths in the development of Korean postverbal negation in terms of both syntactic development and pragmatic uses of postverbal negation; and secondly to investigate explanations for the special pattern of development observed. The data were collected from one bilingual child (R) who is simultaneously acquiring two languages, Korean and English over two years between the ages of 5;00 and 700 (years; months). The data collection was carried out in four periods in two different environments: Periods I and III in Australia, Periods II and IV in Korea. The development of postverbal negation showed that when R was in Australia, she employed both L1 and L2 learning mechanisms, while when she was in Korea, she employed L1 learning mechanisms. The results reveal that L1 and L2 mechanisms are not basically different because R shows both forward and backward developmental features in conjunction with the two different language environments: Korea and Australia.

Purpose: Brain-based learning has become increasingly important in nursing education. The purpose of this study is to (a) synthesize the literature on brain-based learning in nursing education using Whittemore and Knafl's integrative review method, and (b) discuss teaching strategies for nursing educators. Method: Searches were made through the CINAHL, OVID, PubMED, and SCOPUS databases using the terms $nurs^*$ AND (brain based OR neuroscience) AND ($educa^*$ OR $learn^*$ OR $teach^*$). Included were original articles in the domain of undergraduate nursing education written in English in peer-reviewed journals between January 1984 and December 2013. Twenty-four papers met the criteria. Results: Three themes were retrieved: (a) activate whole-brain functions, (b) establish supportive educational environments, and (c) encourage learners to be more active. Conclusion: Brain-based learning enhances the learning capabilities of undergraduate nursing students.

The purpose of this study is to understand married female immigrants' life adjustment process in Korea by explaining the resources to which they have access and how they use them. The data were collected through in-depth interviews with ten female participants who have more than one child, have participated in programs of the multicultural family support center, have work experience, can communicate with Koreans, and live in Daegu. The major findings are as follows. The participants' personal resources differed. English language skills were very useful resources for making money and for earning the respect of family members and others. However, the participants without English language skills had sincerely and actively tried to learn the Korean language and gain bilingual competence. The participants obtained diverse family resources from their husbands and parents-in-law after adapting themselves to perform their gender role. Further, the participants used the social resources offered by public support systems as a starting point for learning the Korean language in their early adaptation process, and formed personal networks with staff members at the multicultural family support center. The results show that the participants used many kinds of resources for acculturation by interacting positively with their environment. Moreover, the resources from diverse levels of their environments affected their acculturation process.

As the globalization process progresses more rapidly and widely, there has been a ever-growing demand for multilingual learning. Compared with the study of Second Language Acquisition, studies on the Third Language and even Multilingual Acquisition have attracted a relatively poor attention. At the same time, considering current educational environments for ethnic colleges and universities, the effects of college English teaching for minority students can be said to have been 'generally poor.' In this situation, when we try to find ways to improve college English studies for minority students most of whom already can speak two languages or even more, it would not be the best idea to keep following the experiences of traditional Second Language Acquisition. It is necessary first to find out whether there are positive or negative effects in acquiring multiple languages, and then to conduct a profound research on L3 (third language and even multilingual) Acquisition in order to employ more efficient teaching methods for multilingual learners. After conducting a Japanese-teaching experiment on two groups of learners with mono-lingual and bilingual backgrounds, it has been found that there is a positive transfer between different languages. In this paper, following the recent research findings on Language teaching for multilingual learners, I try to show with further supports that when it comes to language education for learners with multilingual backgrounds, we should focus on the advantages they may earn in order to conduct more effective language acquisition.
