Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the liberal arts curricula of domestic 3 year and 4 year dental hygiene departments and to obtain the basic data for the development of a standardized dental hygiene curriculum. Methods: The liberal arts curricula of fifteen 3 year and 4 year dental hygiene departments in Korea and other countries were analyzed. A survey was conducted on 801 selected dental hygiene majors from December 8 to 12, 2014. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 750 dental hygiene students and 150 dental hygiene professors. The questionnaire consisted of 5 questions of general characteristics and 13 questions including curricula change, usability of curricula, awareness of the suitability of dental hygiene curricula, and validity of curricula. Cronbach'a alpha was 0.71 in this study. Results: The grade point average in the liberal arts courses in Korean 4 year dental hygiene departments were 29, which was higher than that in 3 year dental hygiene departments of 13.2. There were large disparities among the colleges in the credits of these courses. The most common liberal arts courses in 4 year dental hygiene departments were foreign languages, man, society and communication, and natural science. In 3 year dental hygiene departments, English and foreign languages were the most common courses, followed by computer, man and society, philosophy and ethics. Foreign languages were considered to be the liberal arts course that should be most strengthened according to the job environment change of dental hygienist in globalizing society, followed by social psychology and pedagogy. Conclusions: Liberal arts courses were offered in the 4 year dental hygiene departments than in the 3 year dental hygiene departments in Korea, but there were a great deal of differences between colleges. The preparation of standardized guidelines on liberal arts courses are necessary. Liberal arts courses should support the performance skill and knowledge of the dental hygienists.
Purpose: In order to use a word as academic terminology, we must first take a look at the meaning of that word as it is commonly used and then consider whether or not the connotation of that word is suitable to be used as academic terminology. Presently, the word Pumjil(品質) is being used as academic terminology occupying an important position in the field of business administration in Korea and is usually translated into English as 'quality'. The same is true in Japan. However, as is the case with many Korean words, the meaning that the word implies has a tendency to change gradually over time. This tendency can account for the changes or additions to the meaning a word connotes. Methods: This dissertation aims to escape from such biased ideas and study the meaning of 'Pum-Jil品質' from the view of humanities and exegetics. Then the natural definition of the word as far as business administration is concerned can be considered. Results: 'Pum-Jil品質' has been used amid changes in modern times(historic texts in both Korea and China. In Korea particularly, the word was used in the royal court until comparatively modern times.), and now it is also widely used in the field of business administration. In this process of change, a notable point is that 'Pum-Jil品質', which was originally used to mean 'nature or character of a man', took on a new meaning, 'a certain quality of a thing or a good'. Conclusion: 'Pum-Jil品質' should require basic functional 'quality' of goods or services as a prerequisite. And the functional quality should meet consumers' needs, as the pledge (trust; 信賴) for quality is between suppliers and consumers. Without consumer's trust for goods, the relationship between suppliers and consumers cannot be maintained. So goods must exchange with trust, not expenses. In conclusion, we believe it is reasonable to understand 'Pum-Jil品質' based on the meaning of 'evidence or similar rating for pledge (trust)' from the view of humanities and exegetics. In conclusion, we believe it is reasonable to understand 'Pum-Jil品質' based on the meaning of 'evidence or similar rating for pledge (trust)' from the view of humanities and exegetics.

Objectives : In this study, we conducted a focus group interview among expatriates living in Korea, to investigate their experiences and perceptions of acupuncture and Korean Medicine in order to improve the usage of Korean Medicine in the medical tourism market. Methods : The inclusion criteria for the focus group interview was: (1) participants between the age of 20 to 75 years old; (2) those who had lived in Korea for more than 90 days, and (3) those who were able to express their thoughts freely in English. The participants were informed that the interviews will be recorded and transcribed. We ended recruitment once saturation of materials was met. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the data was analyzed after each interview. Results : The interviews were held between June to December 2016. Twenty-four participants were recruited but four dropped out and a total of twenty participants successfully finished the interviews. Six focus group interviews were conducted. Analysis revealed that Korean Medicine was relatively less known compared to Traditional Chinese Medicine or Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Participants automatically associated acupuncture with the management of pain or stress and replied that these were the areas that they thought acupuncture would be most effective. Positive experiences with acupuncture and with the acupuncture practitioners were factors that promoted the use of acupuncture whereas lack of awareness, accessibility and accreditation were factors that hindered its use. Other factors that hindered the use of acupuncture was needle phobia and the perception that acupuncture lacks scientific evidence. Conclusions : Awareness on Korean Medicine and acupuncture is low. Participants lack awareness on what diseases acupuncture can treat, the scientific evidence behind the mechanism of action, and the rigorous education system that Korean Medicine doctors must go through to get their license. Rigorous marketing should be encouraged, which includes greater exposure in the media, more honest reviews from patients, and promotion of the scientific evidence base.
National research and development(R&D) information is information generated in the process of performing R&D based on programs and projects issued by national government departments, and includes information from various research fields as ordered by various departments. Therefore, for efficient R&D information retrieval, it is necessary to build a national R&D terminology dictionary that can reflect the characteristics of such national R&D information. In this study, we propose a method for constructing a national R&D terminology dictionary by applying the classification of science and technology standards used to specify the research field in national R&D information. We will discuss the structural characteristics of national R&D project information and the usefulness of the project keyword, and explain the status of national R&D information by the National Standard Science and Technology Classification(NSSTC) Codes and the characteristics of the national R&D terminologies. Based on this, a method for building a national R&D terminology dictionary is defined in terms of the type and structure of the terminology dictionary, preliminary construction procedures, and refining rules. The national R&D terminology dictionary built on the basis of this study can be used in various ways such as expansion of search terms using Korean-English equivalent words and synonyms when searching national R&D information, clarifying the scope of search using NSSTC, and providing user convenience functions using term explanation information.

In order to explore the learning attitude of the learners and the effects of conscious learning attitudes on academic achievement in On-line education system of open high school, we analyze the log data of 2,965 first graders who studied English, Math, Integrated Society and Integrated Science during the first semester of 2018. This study examines the learning status according to the learner's background variables, and analyzes the number of lessons per hour, learning progress rate, learning period, learning start month, and formative evaluation results for each class. In addition, to verify the effects of conscious learning attitude on academic achievement, skewness and kurtosis are calculated by using learning frequency values for each class. As a result, in almost all fields, the average number of lessons per class, study duration, progress rate, and grades, women are higher than men. In addition, the older ones are, the higher they are and the Seoul area is higher than the other area. The average learning period is 2~3 months, and the longer the learning period, the higher the formative evaluation score. Lastly, even though the number of learning is lower than that of learners who concentrate on a certain period of time, the formation scores of learners who learn consciously are higher.

Purpose: The obesity prevention and management program led by public health centers are important in the community. This study aims to identify the current status of obesity prevention and management programs at public health centers and perceptions regarding facilitators and barriers when implementing programs. Methods: This study used a concurrent mixed methods design. A survey was conducted to investigate the current status and infrastructure of the obesity prevention and management program at eighty-three public health centers nationwide. Nine program managers and six local residents with experience in the program were interviewed by using a semi-structured questionnaires. Results: Most of the infrastructure facilities for the program were inadequate, and insufficient budgets and lack of professional staff were identified as barriers. Facilitators included diversification of program delivery methods, operator competence, and visible outcomes and rewards. For the effectiveness of the program, it is vital to have adequate assistants, a sufficient budget, various promotional methods, and connections with various institutions in the community. On this basis, it is acknowledged that the public health center serves as a platform for preventing and managing obesity in the community. Conclusion: It is expected that infrastructure improvements in public health centers and the link with community resources are needed. In addition, there is an urgent need to set standards for obesity prevention and management programs implemented in public health centers to 'resolve regional disparities'.

This study is the most important component in establishing the court library as the best legal library in Korea responsible for professional legal services. A perception survey was conducted on the target. As a result, first, looking at the collection direction based on the needs of general users, in the case of collection types, preference in the order of books, electronic materials, and non-books should be considered. It seems to be necessary to plan a collection development policy reflecting the high preference for books. In addition, in the non-books section, the preference for non-book materials in the form of video rather than audio is much higher, and in the case of language, domestic books should be collected mainly. Second, looking at the collection direction based on the needs of experts, the satisfaction of experts is generally low, so it seems that a collection development policy should be established to improve this. As for the type of information source, preference was shown in the order of electronic materials, books, and non-books. There is a need. The future collection direction should be based on the preference shown in the order of procedural law, specialized field, basic substantive law, and legal series. Also, when collecting the same book, electronic form of legal data should be considered rather than printed. In addition, it is necessary to collect collections mainly from domestic books, and then, it is expected that the scope of collection should be expanded to prioritize English and American books, Japanese books, and German books.
This paper pays attention to the recent increase of young Koreans working in the low-skilled service sector in Singapore. Such rapid increase largely results from the Korean government's initiatives to promote labour migration of young people and the concurrent proliferation of migration agencies, against the background of growing youth unemployment in South Korea. By exploring the motivations and trajectories of young people's labour migration to Singapore, this study examines to what extent they think their expectations have been met and how they interpret their migration and work experiences. There has been little research that examines the actual voices of young migrants as part of migration studies, whilst the majority of previous research focuses on the evaluation of government support programmes based on job matching rates, surveys of participant satisfaction and etc. Young people who went to Singapore to improve their English language skills and qualifications for future employment in Korea have become frustrated due to low-skilled service jobs that consist of low pay and high labour intensity. Their credentials are devalued and they experience deskilling through this migration process. Most of them were discontent with the Korean migration agencies they used and critical about programmes offered by government institutions and universities/colleges. Despite being subject to deskilling, they did try to actively cope or resist this situation. This study focuses on the various ways these migrants attempted to manage the gap between their initial expectations and reality. It also demonstrates how these migrants interpreted their work experiences after returning to Korea: whilst most of them did not cash off their Singapore work experience for a decent job after returning to Korea, they did not define their experience as a complete failure. Adding to cultural, social capital they gained through this experience, they acquired 'mobility capital' which includes confidence, the desire to move, and capacity to control one's own movement.
James Scarth Gale was a Canadian writer and Presbyterian missionary in Korea. He is A representative figure in Korean studies. Gale was the master of Korean studies at that time, which was based on Korean history, culture, folklore, and language. Gale was the first to will announce Korean Studies to the world. Gale's research and writings have spread to the continent of North America, including Europe and the United States, including Britain. At that time, Gale's study made Korean studies widely known to the world. There is a lack of research on Gale. It is because there is no material and documentary. Gale's documentary is on Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library on University of Toronto in Canada. Gale's documentary Name is Gale's Papers. The official name is MS Col 245, Gale James Scarth Papers. The papers consist mainly of holograph notes for and drafts and typescripts of Gale's works about Korea and his translations of English and Korean texts. In addition, the collection contains correspondence, commonplace books, diaries, the diary of his- second wife, Korean manuscripts collected by Gale, and published articles. The material dates from his work as a Presbyterian missionary in Korea(1888~1927) and from his retirement in England(1927~1937). The documentary Inclusive dates is 1888~1937, Extent is 24 boxes and 8.23 meters. Accession number is 87.046, Gift of George M. Gale in 1987. Liz Ridolfo helped collect the materials in Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library. Thanked. Gale's paper will be an important resource for modern Koreanology studies.
This study investigated the status of the wh-island constraint in Seoul Korean. The syntactic movement of a wh-phrase out of an embedded sentence so as to have wide scope at LF is known to be invalid as it violates the wh-island constraint, but there have been studies in which such a movement was possible when the sentence is read with a wh-intonation. We conducted perceptual tests in which subjects were asked to select an answer after listening to each of the four types of interrogative sentences. Three of them were with 'Nugu-leul', which is an accusative form of the wh-phrase 'who' as well as an indefinite form. The fourth sentence contained the name of a person. 'Nugu-leul' and the noun were positioned in the same embedded sentence to see whether the subjects accepted a matrix scope interpretation of the wh-phrases. Response time was transformed to normalized log response time and checked to find any differences in the time taken to select the answers depending on different types of interrogative sentences. The results showed the subjects had a definite preference for the matrix scope interpretation for the sentences with a wh-intonation. The response time required to select the matrix scope interpretation was longer than for any other type of interrogative sentence. We concluded that the wh-island constraint in Seoul Korean is weak.
